  • the future!, brilliant idea

  • Can the gas that's produced be stored away in a tank, or must it be used right away?

  • now I want to see a vid of you cutting the grass with that thing strapped to your back.

  • great job

    thanks

  • Thats one hell of a fuel tank for that little mower

  • Will the wood gas power both gas and diesel engines? You should connect it to a generator and power your house.

  • @BullittMcQueen1 During WW2 the govt passed out free pamphlets on how to build these. Many farmers powered their tractors with wood gas. Some powered the cars although they looked kind of silly with the burners sticking out of the trunk :)

  • now only if you could mow the yard...... glad to see you using a renewable energy source!!!! where do you get the pits from???

  • Cool as heck! Finnaly a great demonstration of wood gas actually doing something. Thanks.

  • Can you post the details on how this can be built? Great emergency power solution!

  • How do you mow with that attached?

  • Nice clean Build

  • is the grey container a cooler and cleaner?

  • I can see one flaw this wont work around my house- I like to slowool[sic] cherry-pits! cheep wine!O!

  • Now tell me- is your wife rally going to use that thing?!

  • so can i capture this gas, in a propane tank for example. cause if u cant then what is the purpose?

  • is there any reason i cant run my small generator with the smoke from my woodstove?

  • this is awesome i have no words

  • Great job. If I had to live off grid I would have one of these powering my generator to light my house. I give instructions in my book Extreme Survival Pocket Guide on how to build a gasifier. I don't separate the tanks like that but I allow the gas to cool through the use of a long tube.

  • thats got to be the easiest way to rig an air mix valve

  • ITS A GOOD THING ONL IF YOU HAD A GENERATOR TO GO TO WORK FOR YOU

    THATS A GOD THING LOL

  • Does anyone know where to find FULL and WELL EXPLAINED instruction to build gassifier with 55 gallons barrel? thanx!

  • @marinicallcc there is an excellent site called gek gasifier where they give good knowledge and plans (public domain) of their technology to produce electricity(10kw or more)... Nevertheless the exemple above looks very interesting and a lot simpler for using the gas directlty as a fuel for a smaller aplication. The smaller... the future :)

  • how come you by passed the carb? couldnt a guy just dumb the fuel/air right into the air intake and use the carb to regulate the throttle instead of your ball valves? thanks

  • Ok so how are you planning on using that mower to mow the yard.this might be good to run a generator.

  • Nice test, but practically speaking how do you introduce the lubricating oil into the mixture with two cycle engine like this one? The lube oil is mixed into the gasoline but with wood gas????

  • @oneyaker I don't know about this engine, but i have too a "TORO" and is 4 cycle engine. So, there isn't the problem...

  • NICE ONE!

I built a wood chip burner before. It would burn shredded trees & limbs. It would even eat up leaves. I'd stuff the 100# propane cylinder hopper with anything!

I'm quite certain it was converting the water to hydrogen and then burning the gas.

I suspect that's what your doing as well

    Thanks

  • This would be great for a small boat engine..

  • @josephdupont see my vids & learn herbs like coriander, kelp, kale, dill, dock, dandelion etC

  • If you can get your hands on a small propane carburetor for a generator or a forklift it should work with wood gas. It will keep the air/fuel mixture the same at different rpm's and different amounts of engine load.

  • @kickrockss1

i think its called "The Colony" i learned alot from it and other natural resources that we may call garbage today but later may be valuable the next day..

  • great video people need to get used to using other forms of energy.. while gas will rise in price as inflation hits. I saw something like this on a netflix tv show. I cant remember the name but the whole point of the show was to survive with limited resources and they had a whole generator hooked up with it to a alternator then they put on another alternator to bumb up the juice put out. great job

  • I like the fact your standing next to hydrogen with a cigarett.

  • @tucsonpersonified hydrogen is nowhere to be found in this video. Woodchips and woodgas are VERY safe.

  • @oBseSsIoNPC And what do you think the wood gas is? Hydrogene and some methane.

  • @oBseSsIoNPC And what do you think the wood gas is? Hydrogene and some methane.

  • how did you hook it up to a generator?

  • wow that's fucking sick

  • @Oxidized181 Did you know that during world war "gene" gas cars and trucks was the most common vehicle? Anyway here in Sweden.. We drove our cars and trucks on wood since there was no gasoline available...

  • that is a small leash to mow you yard with

  • But will it blend?

  • @steveyodog lmao good one

  • Awesome, now you should take the waste heat from the engine and make electricity, see my channel. My system would be perfect to use in conjunction with this and it is cheap and simple to build.

  • Now you can hook a generator up to the mower and make power right? I wonder how big of a electric generator you could run like that?

  • how can i make one of these???

  • Is this all homemade and or can I buy one somewhere?

  • I like your throttle setup. Simple and effective.

  • can you pressurize wood gas

  • @njmvermont Yes, it is hydrogen gas

  • @Spicyperson9123 It's actually carbon monoxide.

  • @ruiferreira89 yea and hydrogen you burn carbon monoxide

  • could u just put tube right into the carb

  • Cool video! Wish you had done a step by step though

  • Now you can cut your grass during the next fuel embargo:) Awesome project!!!

  • 1:01 needs to be my filler neck in my truck.

  • LOL- Struck a Nerve I see. I was having some fun with the rudementary method of success. So what's the next step. This is a well known method already in use was my point.

  • will you please make vids on how to make that relly want to do that ty o and can we use old water heaters

  • Good invention guy.... thanks for showing us the set up. ;)

  • Well it was a nice lawnmower! Trying to get out of mowing the lawn I see. It's called ambient flow. Meaning it needs a flame to draw the gas through the line since it is non-pressurized. Anothr batch fed converter just what the world needs a slow labor intensive high over head non viable solution using ball valves to raise the octane level and increase engine speed of a lawnmower towing 2-55 gallong drums around the yard as fuel tanks. Just pony up a few bucks and buy a gallon of gas.

  • @Unibomber2u chill out, its just for proof of concept.

  • @Unibomber2u if fuel supplies run dry in your area for whatever reason, you'll be gladly paying 100 dollars a gallon for gas while our friend here honks as he motors by you on your bicycle... he took the time to learn, you did not, in a fuel crises this guy will prosper while you flounder..... unless of course you're another one of those guys that think oil is a renewable resource or it will never run out. *shrug* you're an idiot

  • Great craftsmalship!

I saw bunch of videos where welds look like shit and parts are rigged together with jb weld. Your's is far superios. The old technology is great although the sad part is that when everyone will start using wood chips and pellets and saw dust to generate power the government will make you buy a polution stamps(taxes) and wood will become a comodity just like oil now is.

  • good work man, I'm trying to find the items to build a contraption like yours. Some details and/or plans would be great (The design of your hearth, tube, haker, etc.). I found the FEMA PDF has a tube dimension vs engine horsepower which is neat to have.

I tihnk I am going to cool my gas a bit more than you do though, thru a radiator-like contraption made out of copper.

Good work. These things will feed a generator nicely when everyone else is fighting at a gas station.

  • Fan before the filter would keep the filter cleaner.

  • That is a tidy little setup.

I can see that you are really into this, as you had a tiny gasifier between the fingers of your left hand ;) .

Just wondering, would there be an improvement if you were to place an air intake tube coaxially with the fire tube, such that it ended 75mm above the grate?

Perhaps this would add impetus to the fire, by letting the airflow bypass the fuel column?

I want to build something like this for power generation on my farm.

  • Could you run a woodchipper with it?

  • @Laara12 Haha a setup to create woodchips to fuel your woodchip gas generator to run your woodchipper to create woodchips to fuel your woodchip gas generator to run your woodchipper.......

    I'm pretty damn impressed "zzschoen"

  • Excellent. So you could hook it up to a generator? Sweet set up sir.

  • Is that an inverted downdraft gasifier? I can't tell. Thanks

  • Total Simplicity, You done an awesome job zzschoen. keep up the good work

  • THIS...surprisingly, is the wave of the future. Good video!

  • So if one was to hook this up to a generator how much electricity could they generate. Would it power say, a fridge, or any other large appliance?

  • Great job!!!

  • that thing must be a bitch to push around the yard LOL

  • Awesome project thanks for posting the video for everyone to see.TAKE CARE

  • Nice! 8-) And the byproduct would be charcoal rgt? I wonder if you could form it into briquets and BBQ with it 8-)

  • "That's where all the wood gas goes"

You got some way of keeping O2 and Sparks out of that thing?

  • Oil is irrelevent. Gasoline from coal is irrelevent. Carbon dioxide capture/sequester is so expensive that wind & solar is cheaper.

WE ALL NEED TO STOP USING FOSSIL FUELS NOW! The rest of the world knows this, even China, Iran, Germany & the Saudi's. They are all building wind & solar plants as fast as they can.

Massive public works programs got us out of the depression. America needs a massive green energy program now. Upgrade the grid, re-employ fossil fuel workers in OUR green sector.

  • @BadGasGoodWind You are going to have to rethink the coal thing. Just as there is clean wood burning technology there is clean coal burning technology. It is on a par with the emission from wood pellet furnaces which do basically the same thing that is being done here. They burn at such a high temperature that they gassify the wood and then those gasses are burned. Here instead of them being burned in the furnace they are being burned in the lawnmower.

  • @Indygoguy what people who believe in clean coal always fail to address is that we are not only talking about the burning. We are also talking about how we get the stuff in the first place. Coal Mining is not clean, nor is Natural Gas Fracking or Oil drilling. They all are extremely damaging to our land, air and water before it is even ever burned. Cutting trees is also environmentally damaging, and none of these things can keep up with demand anyway. CleanER burning does not mean clean burning

  • @BadGasGoodWind They are not "extremely damaging to our land". You are a freak. Oil and gas are much more energy dense than wood. Wood simply can not provide the energy that our society needs.Your green scheme would not in fact be "green" at all. For one thing it wouldn't work and for another thing it would devastate the land more than oil and gas drilling and coal mining.

  • @Indygoguy Gee, where were you in middle school science class? out on the playground calling people names? I would like to see some facts that support your theory that wind & solar wouldn't work and your theory that coal and gas is not damaging. I have several documentary's listed for you to watch if you would like to learn more.

  • i assume the other valve on the manifold is acting as the carb

  • wood chips and cherry pits

    it ryhms

  • whats with the two valves one with a hose and one sucks air/oxygen in?

  • Where do all the other gases go and water vapour. do they stay on the bottom?

  • I feel like you could build a mean meth lab

  • that's a great idea for a wood powered generator!

  • Comment removed

  • You did a nice job with that. I appreciate the video explaining how too.

  • So this could be used to fuel a generator?

  • GENIUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! thanks for the video!

  • What is the point if their is no grass to mow.

  • this is really cool do you have a video of how you built it that would be nice 5 stars

  • @iwantosavemoney you would save a few dollors a day if you tried SHUTING YOUR STUPID MOUTH

  • @livefree2011 ok what is your problem

  • @iwantosavemoney I have no idea why i said that i hope it wasn't misdirected from a different conversation and either way i apologize

  • thnkx ill remember this for the nex apocalypse

  • Could you tell us where you got the blower? Make/model would be helpful. Thank you

  • Hi this is great. am also building a woodgas generator to power a car. Did you byepass the fuel pump and filter? Clement Aigbogun. Nigeria+23418033374769

  • sweet

  • wunderfull!

can u give me some exponations of the filter? how do u filtering the gas? i hope that tar is the right word for the "dirt" hows laying down in the pipes and in the motor? which process of cleaning do u use?

  • way cool, i see your ball valve's gas on full. cut off the air intake

  • Do that process causes demage on a motor???

  • you would be-able to use a small motor cycle engine radiator and and have a small pump pump water through an old/cheap bran new cooler put ice water and salt in it. then have that water run through your rad and you wood gas it will cool it off more. : )

  • I gave up my wood-gas-lawn-mower-project 3 years ago after 2 years experimenting as I was convinced it is impossible with an engine that small. You did it ! You are the man! GREAT!

  • looking at the set up, looks as though you could easily set that up, to run an electric generator.

would really like to get the spec's on your set, diagram, etc. Looking to do something similar.

    ty

  • so are you planning on mowing your lawn with a long hose?

  • I knew I could power my house with old leaves and twigs..thanks for the post ! )

  • Looks like there is a lot of tar in that vertical stack after the blower if my eyes don't deceive me. I think you'll need a scrubber (assuming that's not what the second barrel is) otherwise you won't be able to put it to use generating energy or whatnot.

  • mooi werk

  • who do i have to sleep with to get enough mother fucking information to build one my self.... yes, you have one, its really nice. i wish just one of thease vids showd how to...

  • Click on my username to see my "smaller" gasifier videos. I have links there to the plans on instructables.

Build a small unit first to learn how they operate.

Use nothing but wood pellets at first to see how biomass burns. Pellets are consistent.

  • Where can we get plans for this? Thanks.

  • It's a pretty old technology so it shouldn't be too hard to find with Google. Wikipedia has enough information to design one yourself so you aren't bound by the limits of someone else's needs.

  • dam son!! Your back yard looks like mine!! Ha ha ha ha ha

  • I am wanting to make one of these in the hopes to power a battery bank on my shed, but I am not able to find a good set of plans anywhere for free. do you have yours that you could possible share.

  • Great job, its the best I have seen, I plan on running a 10kw generator using your type setup, thanks

  • I'd love to see the internals, if you could pop the top for us and give some details on what you used for the fire tube, hearth and such I would much appreciate it.

  • put a generator on that. a disc magnets and coils..

  • very cool! but how will you drag those tanks around while you cut the grass?

Maybe you should power a generator and charge some batteries or something.

  • Simple. You dont. A $2 weather balloon can be filled with the gas using the blower (if the gas is cooled enough). The balloon supplies the pressurized fuel for use any time you are ready.

  • pleae help me with my project iti is in my vide i cant get any flamable gas

  • Its not getting hot enough. The material being "gasified" should become like a charcoal when properly heated. Also, for the fire try to stay away from pecan wood, I have noticed it doesnt burn near as hot as others such as oak.

  • Yes, his generator is working properly. The burn zone is down in the barrel where you can't see it.

This is the FEMA gasifier. Plans are all over the net.

  • Not this video, he is talking about his

  • What did you use for a burn chamber?

  • "The blower is off, because you dont need it while it's running" Is the blower used to prime the "fuel line" when the gas is initially made? can you do without one completely?

  • What diameter pipe do you use for the burn tube? FEMA plans state 2 inch for up to 5HP and 4 inch for up to 15HP. They recommend using no smaller than a 6 inch diameter and creating a throat restriction at the bottom for smaller sized engines. Did you have to do that or is is it running just fine as shown in the video with a straight tube? Great work on your project. I've been gathering parts and tools to try and duplicate an idea like this.

  • i see 2 ball valves at the intake i guess one for air an one for fuel for a mixture adjustment

  • Dude that is so totally AWSOME!!!!!!!1!! Can you give me a copy of the web adress of the site where you found the plans? Me and my friend are gonna make a miniature model of a Woodgas gas converter. Thanks for your time.

  • Hi, very nice, wondering if you could svae that fuel in a can and put in any gasoline engine later instead regular gasoline? I wish to reproduce your design, and play some time here in my garage.

  • The fuel is a gas (ala Wood gas), not liquid. You could compress it into a gas cylinder but it would use all your energy to power the compressor.

  • very nicely done!

  • do you know if it's possible to connect the gas tube to the air intake on a air compressor and later transfer to a small tank on the mower, so you don't have to be coupled to the wood gas generator

  • that just doesnt seem like it would work to me

  • Nice Carb!

  • Nice build!

  • sweet .. did u adjust the timing on the ignition at all ?

  • no i did not adjust the timing at all, it will automatically run, just feed it wood gas ( ' _ ' )

  • @zzschoen Maybe you could add a cart behind the mower that would have all the equiptment needed to run your mower on it. Or even build something attached to the side of the mower with wheels that rotate in a 360 degrees. Placing all the parts for your gassifier on it.

  • thats cool man ... how big HP motor can it run and what kind of wood works best for fuel?

  • first question what am i using in the grey barrel for a filter? saw dust and wood chips.

second question what kind of tube am i using? i am using a vacuum hose and have had no problems yet but if you look back at the video the condencing pipe that i am using is made a lot longer than most it is 7 feet long. that is what is cooling the gas before it goes into the grey barrel.

  • Very nice. 2 questions:

    1. What are you using in the grey barrel for filter media?

    2. What is the flexible tube running from the filter to the engine? I started out using vacuum cleaner hose and quickly melted it!

  • first question what am i using in the grey barrel for a filter? saw dust and wood chips.

  • so the wood thats in the black berrel is on fire?
