I think you're half right. The patterns, licks, and scales may come automatically, but the melody and overall flow of where an improvised solo is going requires some on-the-fly thinking.

Actually, Suhrs are almost the same as Fenders,cause they are made by a man,that used to work at Fenders´...he just produces it under a different name...check the wiki

Suhr is coming out with a Guthrie Signature Model that will be based on their 24-fret Modern model. I tried a Modern and it's really sweet. Too bad I can't afford one!

hes a fukin awesom player men, but they got a metal player 2 play blues. He plays a lot of notes that arent part of pentatonic or blues note whatsoever and way 2 fast, sometimes blues is played fast but not with arpegios and mixolydians, that gets it into metal derivations

maybe that's coz hes been on the mainstream genre, with all fame and popularity, glamor, celebrity status. when i was a kid i listened to slash n guns n roses all the time, but growing up and playing guitar a lot made me never satisfied, then i branched from mainstream for the quest of finding the 'real music' and realized that slash is not really the real deal, there's bigger world outside and thats when i discovered that music is not anymore mere entertainment, but a pure ear-xtacy to me, lol.
