My dad has a 97 silverado with 614,000 miles on it and it is still his daily driver. He drives it to Tallahassee FL 3-4 times per year hauling stuff and he has no intention of getting rid of it. Amazing truck.

I have the same truck, it has 255 hp and 335 ft/lbs of torque. But you're right...they have loads of torque and power! Mine has 145,000 miles on it and it still runs strong...i plan to drive it for a long time : )

i got a 98 z71 with the 5.7 and im making 310 horsepower stock. nothing done to it. once im done with everything, (K&N, Supercharger, headers etc...) ill b making 425-450. the 5.7 is an awesome motor. U CANT ASK FOR A BETTER TRUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

always was your motor, itll save you in the long run, my 97 chevy has 209k miles and the motor looks brand new and it helps with the belts and air filter , i spend a dollar or so every week to take it to the local car wash

Hey take that air filter cover top off it will bost your power a lil i have the same truck. I took it off my truck and the now the moter has a deeper tone and it still has the stock muffler on i think you be happyer with your truck i sure was :)

That must be common with these trucks. The AC in my ol 95 Silverado didnt work for the longest time either.

I always hated that buzzer. I guess it wasnt until the redesign that they got rid of the buzzer and gave it the dinger. Even so, I have one that dings in my 04 Aveo, and I have it disconnected. Same thing I did in the Silverado.

We have a pair of '99 Chev 3500 crew cabs for our business. By the way: you say your pickup has taken abuse, ours are a lot worse! We use them to tow our Kubota tractor as well as our 2 Kubota excavators! Currently the first one, "truck 12" is currently sitting in a building, not running at all. We think it may be the starter.

ya i got a 97 chevy 5.7 and all the 5.7's come stock with 255 horsepower. they are very good engines. check out my vids you will be surprised at the giddy up after some aftermarket parts

hey what a bunch of girls on here, except for the guys with actual stats...the 5.7 vortec is an amazing motor.....i granny drove my 2wd 98 to see what i could get and it came out at 28.7 mpg...on a 300 km highway trip. cold air intake and chip definately makes a difference.

oh yeah i got a 2000 k1500 and its the biggest pile of shit ever. replaced the tranny at 116,000 miles. the engine knocks squeaks and even screeches when its cold outside. my toyota taco has never let me down even after a damn crash it keeps on haulin ass. That engine (96-99 Vortec 5.7l) came from the factory with 255 horsepower (unlikely, probably higher) and over 330 ft lb of torque. so yeah, great motor, we have a tahoe with 209000 miles and still runs like a champ! i used to have a 90 gmc c1500 with about 425,000 miles on a remanufactured engine.

thats partly true, if GM goes under, its just going to be better for companies that manufacture cheaper cars. ford hasn't gone bankrupt, but my local dealership can sell me an '09 F 150 for a little under $10K. if GM goes bankrupt, you'll sure see a lot more fords and other makes running around. im not going to lie chevy's are awesome trucks and cars, but ford has always lasted a lot longer for me

Nice Chevy man! They are great cars, but there diesel engines are not very good, especially the older ones were crap, like the 350 diesel, the 6,2 and the 6,5 are not very good engines. But the 5,7 gas engines are rock solid!
