Good musics built from good music thats come before it. So who cares if this sounds like something done did its new and different and alot better than all the other lame bieber gaga pop bullshit that everyones into. Just listen and be happy Ya fucks
Led Zeppelin's debut album took many identical riffs and gave no credit to the authors of those riffs. I still love that album, but making a fuss about how music sounds similar is just plain stupid, specially if it sounds like classic bands.
@LeBoucleToledo YES. Led Zeppelin was a great band, but they borrowed/stole many different riffs and chord progressions from prior songs. That's just how it is. Every inspiration is based on someone else's music. That's the definition of 'inspired'. All of this copyright bullshit is pissing me off. If you're a musician and put your art up to the public forum, it's GOING to get borrowed and it's GOING to get used. Music is art not industry. If you are confused by that you are not an artist.
@Jish1997 i didnt say they were the same. they have the same structure,,,,,like length of verses and such. you could almost overlap stairway to heaven and it would fit right. it would be in different keys of course but it would fit pretty well
@Teslaindustries of course, it starts with an acoustic guitar and then follows an electric guitar but that doesn't mean that they copied Led zeppelin. i know, it sounds like stairway, but both are great songs (obviously stairway is better) and people have to accept that
@cjgm2607 it starts with acoustic follows with electric. the verses sound the same just in a different key and the verses are the same length as stairway....pretty sure they copied zeppelin
I sincerely find the comparisons between this fantastic song and Stairway To Heaven something to be proud of. If a song written by a relatively new band gets around 4,000 Youtube watchers per day is because it's good; and I don't find anything wrong in being a good song while sounding similar to the best song of all times. More like the opposite.
Ok, so if everyone's so uptight about playing someone else's riff, check this out: While My Guitar Gently Weeps, 25 or 6 to 4, Brain Stew and some bullshit by the Pumpkins that I can't remember right now. All those are based on the same basic riff. Music borrows from music. When a band comes along that puts those same chords together in a good way, with good lyrics, enjoy it and shut the f*ck up or DO BETTER, ASSHOLE. Good luck, 'cause the Keys are doing it better than anyone right now...
"Rock & roll is dying because people became OK with Nickelback being the biggest band in the world," drummer Patrick Carney tells the magazine. - at least somebody has the balls to try and bring it back.
I'd much rather a band that pays homage to the classic rock songs they enjoy, than one who writes shitty original music to appease the masses. The way the music industry is going, these could be some of the last rock n roll artists that achieve international success, is it so wrong that they might sound like some of the greats? Music borrows from itself all the time, you can't fault these guys for playing to their tastes.
@cphillips913 No..."Dani California" by the Red Hot Chili Peppers sounds like "Last Dance With Mary Jane" there was already a big controversy on that, you're not even close here.
i dont get why people compare bands to eachother i get that they sound similar but if you want to listen to fucking zeplin or who ever search bar is up top not in the comment box :D
Using a very common chord progression does not constitute plagarism. Bottom line is that its a great song. Get past labelling every little thing that is put in front of you and enjoy it for what it is...
Who cares who the hell this song sounds like, all that matters is that it is a fucking awesome song, even if it is similar to Jethro Tull or Zeppelin, Bands do that all the time to play tribute to other bands. Half of Zeppelin's song come out of others bands songs, and they make them their own just like The Keys do here. So everyone stop hating and enjoy the music.
My friends and I recently recorded a song called "Nylon Whale" and we would really love if you took the time to check it out! We don't have much of a Black Keys vibe, but we're an indie band looking for support! Thanks and God Bless!
Some one brought up the Led Zepplin comparison in an interview. the Keys said they honestly didnt listen to zepplin. but they probably listened to the same old blues and rock albums that zepplin listened to.
@RockN311 Wasn't trying at all =) Just making light of how everyone wants to compare someone to someone else. Who gives a fuck. At least they are doing something creative and entertaining.
i think the 2nd half more resembles a riff from last dance with mary jane than the first half sounds like stairway, still, its a great song regardless
Saying it sounds like Stairway to Heaven, which it really does, isnt comparing. its pointing out the obvious. And saying it sounds like Stairway to Heaven is one of the best compliments any band could get.
yous should all fuck up and just enjoy the music. there is one tiny part of the melody and vocal melody that kindof sounds like stairway to heaven....and what? its still a fuckin sick song.
Considering that quite a few of Zep's biggest hit's were complete uncredited rip-off's, already well documented, I find some of these comments laughable.
You kiddies complaining about similarities to other songs are missing the point of this fantastic band. But hey, when shitty digital music is the norm you can drop this as a reference about a time when people actually still played instruments. Besides, this song works best in the context of the album (which is pure genius).

@Krpi I HAVE to be harsh, man. Not most people can make those comparisons like you can but still have in mind that obviously they didn't rip the song off. And honestly, I'm trying to hear the similarities and can't. The one and only similar thing seems to be the softness in voice, or a progression of a few notes.
Yea no hard feelings, just don't write all of us off. Personally the strongest feeling of similarity comes when the chorus hits the first time and the vocals take a higher tone. Another thing is the structure of the song that seems to follow StH, albeit vaguely. Beyond those it's just in the feeling the song produces.
But this is coming from a guy who never listened to Led Zeppelin that much anyway, hahah.
lol to anyone who doesn't think it's incredibly awesome how much it sounds like Stairway to Heaven. It's practically a Mad Libs of the Zeppelin classic. It's also way more listenable than Stairway, partly because it's way shorter and partly because it goes HARD!
There are songs with similar structures ad ripoffs - LBS is a ripoff of Stairway. The melody is too similar to call it a coincidence or an "inspiration". just because it has an Am chord doesn't mean it sounds like stairway. that chord isn't copyrighted

Black keys are one of the most underreated bands in music today. I like dubstep and hardcore alright but THIS is the shit that should be blowing up.

Sounds like Led Zep, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Tom Petty, and the White Stripes all were melted together and with a pinch of originality and then out popped the Black Keys.
Awesome

I LOVE that one of their greatest influences is Led Zeppelin. Blasted this in my car when I first bought the album. Long live the Black Keys and Led Zeppelin.
