@AC130EMPYREAL ' I was a fire explorer (in W ashington state), back in the 1970's. It was THE GREATEST. Back then, once fully trained, the only things we could not do was 1. enter a burning building, & 2. drive the trucks. I'm sure things have changed since then, but I would not have changed a thing. on a fire scene, I was the engineer( ran pump panel). Where else can a 15 year old kid train to do what he loves, & be treated with respect by adults? The BEST thing I've ever done.

State child labor laws consider fire apparatus as heavy equipment.. No one under the age or 18 can run them. Even in a training scenario. Again, why, who the heck knows.

The minimun age is 14 so you're good to join a post.

No they dont let them do that but the explorers do rehab for the firefighters and also put the rigs back in service by reloading the hose and putting tools back while the firefighters rest and get checked out so they can either go back and fight the fire or be released to go back to their station.

They go to the firehouse and the dept has supplied a rig that has all of the supplies they need for REHAB and they wait for an advisor who can take them to the scene.
