They're cheap as people are selling them to buy "economic" car but they're wrong as they'll end up paying it off every month for 10 years, it's little relief that it has more economic engine considering interest rates, and forget about any performance or luxury in those econoboxes…
I don't have a BMW with the 4hp22, insted I have a 5hp30 with the weak trans valve vody and lifetime oil crap; trans oil change = hard. If you really want to rev your car Place it in park shutdown the car wait for 30 seconds and start it up and Dont hold your rev no higher than 2000 rpm for 1:20 mins, you can do short Revs but just don't do too much of it.
Well our little friend at ZF didn't make the 4hp22 transmission properly. They did not install a pressure relieve valve in clutch pack A. Wikipedia "4hp22" and you'll find out more about it.
ok i went on wiki, but they don't explain that much neither... By the way, are you sure the 750 had only this gearbox ? because it mentions a four speed automatic, i've 6 gears in mine (automatic) ...
hahahaha i like the " our little friend at ZF" ....that mean you had a bad experience of the gearbox, didn't you ?
yes maintenance is very very expensive. Ex : a stupid electronic chip that regulates blower motors cost 600 dollars....fortunately i got one on eBay for a hundred $. Well it depends of the mileage. More than 120 000, leave it. You'll have to change all the bushes, thrust arms, silent blocks etc etc...and the electronic could be a problem too. It may be german it's full of probes, sensors, wires, relays...But i think it's one the most beautiful cars of the 80's :) . Up to you.
@audigiovanni im going to get them to test it out and see whether there is anything wrong. It also has 139000 miles on it so i hope everything has been changed.

Be careful about revving your car with a 4hp22 transmission in park or neutral, you might fry the clutch pack A , disabling first gear.

?
eeer thanks... but how can i fry a clutch in neutral ? i don't understand
