A community owned youtube like system is a great idea. The idea of forming this system by direct democracy is very interesting. I wonder if it could work.
i advocate "qualified voting" .. which means that only people, who are qualified to make a certain vote .. are allowed to vote. people become qualified for example by either having the necessery education for the question at hand or beeing personaly affected by the results.
why is being able to make money on your channel going to help? I have 2 ebay accounts and use neither, unless you're a business man being able to buy+sell on your page doesn't matter. The thing that matters most is the community... if my friends are on this site i'll stay here, if there on another site i'll go there.
So what is not democratic in youtube? You totally own your channel and nobody interferes ( because nobody cares =) ) And if administration make some changes (in the engine) that users can't stand, youtube loses audience. It's already pretty democratic, isn't it?
do we want community or fame and fortune? a few months back we were all moaning about too many 'corporates' muscling in on 'our community'. now the talk sounds a lot like 'wouldn't it be nice if we could all build our own corporate empires online'. maybe it would for those who stuck gold but my fear is those who didn't would spend their time chasing the elusive pot at the end of the rainbow rather than engaging in genuine community.
Someday in the not to distant future when a conference of nations is held, most of the participants will already be viral video friends. They will sit around talking about the latest voisingworld video. Can you imagine?
You know I'm excited about the possibilities. Sorry I haven't been on the forum lately, but I'm still catching up on everything from my little vacation. I'll be in with some more ideas shortly...
Im really interested in this, Once I get a free minute Ill make my small video. I think we should focus now on whats most important to getting this idea going...Money.
if this channel bcomes what I think it will, I believe someone should take responsability to make a weekly summory video so that folks interested do not have to go back and listen to each video over n over to catch all the important details...just a thought:)tyvm for info and more knowledge to come:)
Community ownership, trading, ebay/YT, ads on your page, sell from your page... I'm implementing these. As for verification of personhood, SecondLife does it by creditcard or cellphone. Might not need millions from VC if we grow it slowly from the ground up in a hierarchical manner. I bet I'm nearing 500 words, lol. Thanks for the link on the other vid!
I was just thinking about Secondlife and how we could incorporate some of those ideas about groups/entities that already exist in a virtual world, within MMORPGs.
man i've watched all your vids on this topic and i find it a very exciting idea... but i can help wondering if it is actually legal.. maybe its just me thinking in a very unexperienced way. but surely they'd have copyrights to their own individual idea......be great to merge them all together though. would be awesome to be honest

I don't have a real life - I exist only as a neural simulation in the basement of YouTube's San Bruno, CA offices.

Yes, the current systems are copyrighted, but there could be equivalent systems as part of the enation.
