i'm surprised they made an anime ou of this. typical opening for an anime inspired by the manga. it seems to have that old feel mixed with new music that even now it still sounds slightly outdated.

oh well, at least the anime is slightly more watered down

Yep, the same here. The series ending is great, but it leaves me wanting for more. Too bad 009-1 isn't more popular. Still, there's hope that if the dvds sell well enough, they might make more of it, the creators say so in the interview.

It is common that the OP image becomes person's shadowgraph with old cyborg 009. It cannot be thought hommage and the parody. I feel the connection for free though might a coincidence.

There are more than a few nods to 009 in likeness and cameos.

Aside from the art sytle and the basic theme though, they are completely different stories.
