Yeah, Mexican insurance paid for everything (except the towing because we insisted on using a flat bed which cost extra $500). We ended up getting close to $10K out of the insurance to totally fix the truck! Buy insurance! It works!!!

Back in 1979-80 I spent a year traveling the length and breath of Mexico and Central America in a CJ-5 Jeep.

The scariest thing I saw was just how badly the people drive south of the border. Passing on blind curves and over the crest of a hill. It happened so much that I was starting to freak that one of these days some nit wit would come over the hill or around a curve in my lane right at me.

The deal is, after traveling in Baja a lot of years to surf, I conclude the trip is a crap shoot. You can go one time and everything is great. You can go another time and stuff like this happens. Its just part of the drill...not easy to take, but you just have to factor it in. That's why lots of people in the know drive old domestic 4WD trucks. If you lose it somehow, its no big loss.

Good advice. The old timers all agree. Only take with you (vehicle included) what you are willing to sell cheap or just flat walk away from. Towing a car back to the States isn't always an option. ... but nice rig btw!
