It is not about either ballet girls or boat girls! It is definitely not for kids! It is a metaphorical story about growing up and in the original movie there is no background music and they have different voices

@lonewolfandcube Some of the character's may participate in ballet, but the movie is metaphorical. It is a beautiful art film about coming of age, and is seen through the eyes of the girls at the school. The direction, acting and story are all strung together to make the audience see through those girls' eyes, and feel the way the girls feel. There have been so many holes purposefully left in the story so you can analyze the movie and take from it your own experience.

Which might have been alegorical, but on the surface was about a girls school which killed the girls who tried to find out the truth or escape and trained the rest fo a ballet recitel, at the end of which the prima donna was given to the prince to be raped.
