Wow! What kind of goats are those, or what other breeds are good for packing? I want some. How do you train them? And is that particular breed any good for milk?
I've never felt the need for 'protection' in the wild before the goats. But after several close encounters I'm carrying it solely for their benefit! I would HATE to standby empty handed just watching a predator dine on one of my buddies!
@goathiker what kind of "close encounters" are you referring to? Here in Idaho wolves are becoming a serious concern among people with pack stock and even dogs in the back country. And of course coyotes, bears, and cougars are something to watch out for. I've never worried for myself, but I genuinely worry about my goats any time I leave them in camp alone while I'm off hiking/fishing.
yep yep. gives you the loud noise as a deterrent, and the firepower if you need it. i have carried a few firecrackers in addition. No way am I standing by for that...will go down swinging first. I'm putting up a some silly little vids of a forest trip with my two Alpine does...unfortunately the video cam failed from the rain, so I only have still pics of the cougar tracks that I found following our own tracks. I'll try to make a slide show with them in it for ya.
PS I am seriously envious of your big beautiful wethers. I need to breed my girls and get some boys on the team. Hey I'm also working on equipping them with APRS beacons, with solar recharge. 21st century digital goats!
Thanks for sharing that great film with us!!!! Loved it.

Love your goats. Wish my wethers were so mellow. They're a couple of hyperactives. Also, that music is very fitting for goats!

yo! can pack goat be pets...jus wondering
Akitogiwi 2 years ago
Most definitely! But some cities don't consider 'livestock' to be 'pets' thus you aren't allowed to keep them within city limits.

Try contacting your local 'Humane Society' or check with the County Planning Dept who are in charge of zoning and regulations for your city.

Did you pay Peanut the "union rate" for his film making? He did a great job! I heard he wants a steadicam for his next film.

If Peanut used a SteadyCam I'd have to edit to some lame slow music which wouldn't allow me to hide all my poor editing skills!

Another great video, look like a moster climb, I thought you were nearly there and hit another plateau.
Great editing and tune selection as always.
Keep on making the short films
good luck
