Now that is an extremely insightful observation! Well said! Also, given his dialogue exchange with Weissman at one point in this film, could it be suggested that he was playing this particular tune, with the seriously CRITICAL intention, of being sarcastic about the decadent snootiness of most of the others?! Is it obvious?! Or is that perhaps, my imagination being too outrageously suggestive?! What do you think? 'Don't, don't, don't, please don't encourage me, I'll just go on-n'!
I actually am going to encourage you, cause I think that's really interesting. ;) You know, it's one of those little things that you can still discover for the first time even after watching the movie 3 times. That's what I find so amazing about Gosford Park.
Anyways, I'd never thought about that before, but now that you say it, it seems obvious. Ivor is obviously clever, so his songs must not have been chosen at random.

My only serious criticism is (in my view) the total misscasting of Stephen Fry, as the Inspector. So that's another positive way in which this YouTube malarkey affects one! Anyway, a BIG thanks for posting.
I'm Sorry Vita1892, I messed up the end there! Are you interested in commenting on my others about this film, which are situated around various video clips, eg. the nodding chinaman statue scene? I've also commented on clips of 'Howards End', 'Remains Of The Day', 'A Room With A View' and 'The Pride Of Miss Jean Brodie'. Also, PLEASE note, my extreme replies to a certain stupid, neo-Nazi type, 'bachjupp', are ONLY reserved for HIS sort, and NOT typical of what I'M about! Honest! Best wishes! :-)

Jeremy is no doubt an extremely brilliant actor of period movies. Honestly British, certainly, at the same time, very aristocratic and charming.

Nice choice. The song is a good framework for a peek into the various intrigues of the house.
