Mark 6:3 does NOT make the claim that Jesus was a carpenter. It is someone anonymous asking the question "is this not the carpenter?" The anonymous inquisitor is NOT making a statement of fact. Go read it again.

His name is Jesus of Nazareth but to fulfill the prophecy of the king of the Jews being born in Bethlehem his birthplace was likely changed for that.
