I just realized that it was actually that the Lexus LS has #s after and lincoln does not which is more of what the law suite was about. They made a deal because Toyota who owns Lexus was going to name there truck the f150 something so they both compromised. LS means luxury sedan not that much to steal there.

This car doesn't look safe....The whole cabin area bent and the back door crumpled. If the car was on fire, the back and possibly the front occupants could've been burnt to a crisp, unless they were small enough to go through the windows.

@09feb1992 i had 1 of these cars which was just wreaked december 11th. it took a 60mph hit to the driver side just fine and i walked away without a scratch while flattening the front of the other car its perfectly safe it got 4 and 5 star crash ratings

I owned a 2000 LS and hit a telephone pool after attempting to miss a deer and was able to drive nearly 2 miles home where insurance was called to pick it up for repairs ($9000 in damages )...also had a frontal impact at 50 MPH W/O a seat belt (Stupid I Know) and walked out of my car nearly uninjured with only a single cut on my eyebrow...Just got a 05 LS and feel so safe in my car, couldnt ask for a safer vehicle...Love my LS

50 mph!? A guy I went to school with died after his car hit a tree going 40 mph. He was wearing his seatbelt too. I'm not saying I don't believe you but, a 50 mph crash is super severe & deadly. Just stopping instantly at that speed can kill you. Not to mention what you hit. People have died crashing into stuff at less than 30 mph. You're lucky to be alive.

No crash is the same many many different circumstances in each crash. When i was 17 i rolled a pickup truck doing 75 i was thrown from the truck and landed about 30 feet away only thing i had wrong was a broken thumb and a couple thorns suck in me from some kind of bush...

Yeah that's true, just the other nite on one of those wild police chase videos, I saw a head on collision and both cars were going over 55 mph and nobody died. I couldn't believe it! I guess it was just the angle that they hit. It wasn't a direct head on collision, maybe that's what saved them. This crash was intense, it looked like an explosion when they hit. I was shocked to see the guy pulled from the car and thrown on the ground and put in hand cuffs.

I got rear ended in my LS by a lady with doing 45mph, i was stopped at the light text messaging when my phone flew to the back dash. I feel safe in mine :) A full frontal hit would have handled alot better i'm sure.

Older cars didnt crumple like newer cars, and therefore the energy of the crash was transferred to the people inside of the car. Newer cars are built with crumple zones so that the car absorbs the energy instead of the people inside of the car. It makes crashes look alot worse, but in the end more people are walking away from crashes now that would have landed them in the hospital or dead years ago.

they're called crumple zones. they are made to do this because if you're hitting something at 40 + miles an hour, odds are insurance companies are going to write it off as a total loss. who cares what happens to the car at that speed. i'd be more concerned about my safety at that moment, then the other people's because it's also less energy being transferred to them.
