  • Ouch, the screen flexes when she opened it! ......should have used that Aluminum unibody!

  • @djw3sly the screen is made to flex. Drop this and an air on a corner and see which one comes out with a fully functional screen.

  • Theee sexiest laptop ever....if only it ran OSX.....

  • beautiful ¡¡¡

  • beautiful ¡¡¡

  • Did that screen bend when she opened it?

  • @thincle6626 this lid is a little bit flexible but it's absolute solid!

  • @thincle6626 shes a bodybuilder

  • @thincle6626 i believe so

  • @thincle6626 Any asshole knows you're not supposed to open it like she did. Jesus woman, be careful.

  • mouse pad.,.,??its touch pad..,.,

  • @minipcpro haha dick

  • @kingofnothing26 Are you fucking serious? LMAO VAIO murders macbook!!!

  • @DABS139 no, the VSIO is DOA

  • OMG, look how it flexes under its own weight from 0:15

    Made out of paper?

  • it looks alittle flimsy when opining tho but go sony

  • finger print or mauspad? "Touchpad" ^^

  • actually wasn't it sony who first did the chiclet keyboard not apple?

  • no, actually it was the sinclair spectrum with z80, an 8bit home computer who had the first chiclet keyboard in the worlt. that was around 27 years ago

  • No. Do you? Don't get mad just asking.

  • I forgot my bios password and now i have to wait about 5 days on official channel or pay 50 euro to people that are probably laptop thiefs.Sony says it protects my data from theft with this system.Sony is great.

  • wow, Apple invented chiclet keyboards now? maybe they even invented cars and planes?

And by the way, who in the world wants to have a glossy screen for a mobile device... oh well, mac users do!

    Paul, start again please ;)

  • @minipcpro pwned paul, very nice. :D

  • @minipcpro why are u so anti mac?? u are reviewing a netbook with a atom processor.. really bad performance!! Apple wouldn't bring that shit on the market in that kind of form factor! btw on glossy screens colours are more popping.

Any Sony has also many laptops with glossy screens!

  • @ Paulwander, Hello paul, do you have paralytic neurons or something? Just asking... don't get mad.

  • Iditio Sony is better and Apple has copied the keyboard motherfucker

  • bluetooth paul, bluetooth

  • @paulwander

    rofl, your retarded

  • @Paulwander another Apple fan boy right?

    lol so pathetic

  • @Paulwander I think minipcpro sayd it, you got owned.

  • @Paulwander lmao, sony started the chiclet keyboard

  • @Paulwander

Well, this is an Ultra thin Laptop....

    So... Compared to MacBook air.

2 USB ports (instead of one)

An Ethernet port ( MacBook air has NONE

and VGA Port (MBA has none)

    A 16:9 Screen (MBA is 16:10)

<1.5 Pounds (MBA is 3 pounds)

  • I love Mac but this Sony Vaio X Series is really sleek, I would buy this PC over any other PC brands. Still love my Sony Vaio TZ2000.

  • marek says sneeze

  • "It's a VERY nice keyboard"

    ...for a 5 y.o maybe.

Like I wrote in other review: I've seen better keyboard (size and comfort wise) on 9" netbooks.

  • I'll buy it.

    no other

  • Comment removed

  • Good thing no one turns to you for your thoughts.

  • That's a really nice computer, can't wait for the non-Atom version to come out. ...sticking to my Air for now.

  • wow!

  • very

  • This is for the very very light pc user that only internet browses and chats online, and wants a great looking and feeling model. Doesn't exactly fit my preferences, but I can imagine why people would want it.

  • Woahhh, I take what i said back after I looked at the price. Deff. not worth it, with intel atom on i ts pretty much a design - net book.

  • Intel Atom?

    YUCK!!!

  • omg look 1:10 how the screen bends... that isnt some good build quality

  • screen very flexable...not good.... 1:09

  • is it true it has 14 hours of battery life?

  • it depends on the battery

  • you have no clue 'bout vaios!

  • @selam57 depends on the battery, the biggest battery has 16hrs approx.

  • yaa..u're rite.i can see that..this iz superbbb....!!!

  • Comment removed

  • im working at sony show rooms, this thing is a killer~

superb weight and build quality... i'd rethink me thoughts of sony VAIO department

    Thumbs up for VAIO

  • Not all VAIO. . .The W is an epic fail! 2.5 Hours of battery life on a netbook!

  • I do believe this was a non-functioning mock-up. I've recently had the chance to use and handle a production Vaio X. The screen actually quite stiff, and I would expect it to be as there is a GLASS LCD panel in there. Unlike the very flexible sample seen in the video.

  • look a lil bit similar to mac but it is cool.

  • it is cheaper than mac

  • quiero una yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

    vamos vaio !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • does it have a disc drive?

  • of course not.

  • is it using windows vista or windows 7?

  • This model was running XP as it was filmed in September. We also have a video of a gold version running 7 at the Windows 7 launch event in Taipei.

  • At 1:14 you can see in the bottom left hand corner an orb, which XP doesn't have. It looks like Windows 7 to me, the RC would have been available in September

  • yes

  • is this better than my mac pro 15" 2,66 ghz 7200 rpm 320 gb

  • No.

  • yes of course it is better! longer batterylife and thinner!!!! so buy a sony vaio! i'll recommend that to you!!! i got one!!! and its the best!!! i had a macbook, but i couldnt play a few games, but on my new vaio everything runs!!! so buy vaios-they are stylish too

  • this looks realy nice

  • it is thinner than macbook air

  • thinner and less powerful. . .

  • less powerfull i agree but wut is it that u can do with a powerfull mac

  • you are right! what can you do with a powerful mac! nothing! cause not all games are compatible with macs! but on vaios u could buy a 18.4 " screen laptop and they are powerful!!!

  • Did anyone how the screen bent when she opened it? It looked really nice in the commercial...but not so much after seeing that

  • The screen is carbon fibre and really flexible. U r meant to open using 2 hands! Yes, it is more thin and flexible, but it is only as fragile as any other screen; probably less fragile in my opinion.

  • Well, I have Z11WN/B (grat machine but too expensive!) but this X looks nice. Unfortunately it's 11' lcd - not too much.

  • As a choice between this and a Vaio Z, I would certainly go with the Z.

Performance is so much better with the Z. Core 2 Duo vs Atom, 1066GHz FSB vs 533GHz. dedicated Nvidia Gforce 9300 vs slow integrated Intel GMA500.

  • I'm so on the edge of buying this netbook, but it just seems too flimsy. When she opened the screen, it actually bent.

  • Yea I noticed that! I'm thinking of buying it too but the endurance factor looks questionable.

  • I got a 1.19kg VAIO VGNTZ. After 2 years still brand new. Oh, it dropped the thing on it's side on the cement in the car park, cracked a bit of the plastic and it's still going strong. The techy at Sony reckons they're pretty tough, and I'd guess its toughter than most notebooks.

  • For anyone contemplating buying the Vaio X as featured in the video. Here is a few points you might want to consider, which seriously affect it's use as general purpose laptop. Mainly due to the Atom CPU and Intel GMA500 graphics.

    Gaming: Forget it.

    Video editing: Forget it.

    Video rendering: Painfully slow.

Full screen Flash video: Very jerky. HD Flash is a slide show.

The above is from my experiences of using a Vaio P, which has a similar Atom CPU and same GMA500 graphics as the X.

  • ... continued

Until last month there have been some serious problems with GMA500 video drivers. Aero and Windows Media Player would frequently cause the machines to BSOD. This fortunately has now been solved.

Linux support for GMA500 is still very problematic, due to a closed source PROPRIETARY driver, which does NOT work with newer kernels. Usually Linux support for Intel graphics is excellent, with good open source drivers. But not so with GMA500.

    HTH. :)

  • Just a note, the X series is not using the Atom CPU

  • Actually the Vaio X does have an Atom CPU. It's a 2GHz single core Z550 'Silverthorne' with 512MB cache and 533MHz FSB to be precise. The X is now available on Sony's web site, and Intel Atom is listed as the CPU.

Problem I see is Sony is marketing it as a premium lightweight slim laptop. Users will maybe try to do some video editing on it, they will be very disappointed by the performance.

Indeed it has a UMPC or netbook class processor and graphics, in a 12 inch form factor.

  • aestheticly beautiful. However an intel atom processor? ....Hmmm...This is will be like a Glorified netbook.

  • acutally it isnt an intel atom processor i dont think, beacause i looked on sony's website and it said 2ghz processor, i dont think atom processors go that high, i might get it for christmas =)

  • I think it might be an Atom CPU.

Sony just lists it as a '2GHz Intel® Processor' but it's paired with an Intel GMA500 chip. The GMA500 was specifically designed to be used with Atom CPUs, in applications like netbooks, MIDs and UMPCs.

I believe it's been launched in Europe next week with a retail price of something like €1500 Euros. They also state it comes with Windows 7, so this would tie-in with next weeks launch.

  • the intel atom thing starts off at 1.83ghz or something i dont really bother to remember, but you can upgrade it to 2ghz, XD

  • Yup Intel Atom processor running at 2GHz. So indeed it is a 'Glorified netbook'. Beautiful to look at, expensive to buy. That's SONY for you. :)

  • You're going to break the screen when you open it XD

  • the screen is actually tougher than other sreens i bet. But it is recommended u open the screen using 2 hands - just do that, and don't drop it and it will last forever!

  • .... er ..right click my computer > properties ..

    ?

  • it was blocked by the admin but know we know why, cause it's just an intel atom silverthorne

  • plastic? mate this is carbon and that's why it won't break at all. Cheap copy of the air? holy shit, you apple fanboys should become a little more creative.

  • u still a lot to learn, dude.

  • i havent seen viao use plastic material for years. where did you get that ridiculous plastic. blow your mac air away. stronger thinner , lighter ,more ports

  • i doubt you even own an Air cause if you did you would notice how flimsy that thing is too. Lets be honest... The both of them are hair thin. But only one has a 14 hour battery, more than 1 usb and sd card slots. Sony for the win!

Other than that they are the same as far as cpu, ssd, ram. But the Air has 9400m graphics by nvidia and the sony has an intel based one... But im sure it works just as well. Lets face it, you wont be playing Crysis on either of them!

  • One can actually game reasonably well with a Nvidia 9400, it's not quick though.

The Vaio X has Intel GMA500 graphics, which was originally designed for ultra low power use in netbooks and UMPCs. From experience these do not do FPS games at all. I've even found WoW was unplayable on a Vaio P UMPC using the same GMA500, and WoW is not a very demanding game.

AFAICT the Vaio X has an Atom CPU in it. While the the Macbook Air has a Core 2 Duo CPU. Basically the X is a 12 inch netbook.

  • its thinner little boy than your macbook air - loser! sony is much more innovative than apple! believe me, they are much biggerof a company and richer! long live sony

  • ready to upgrade my AR series!

  • my laptop looks exactly the same except its 13.3 inch ;D

BTW VAIO is always expensive I personally wont choose it. But i got mine becuase my dad got it from the company he worked for and he already had a laptop

  • 700g!? I want it......

  • Did you guys notice how the lid bended when she opened it?

  • which doesn't matter at all. It's absolutely stable

  • It's a magic of vaio. No matter how the lid bends, it doesn't really affect the screen or anything. I've been using vaios that have screens that bend but not a single problem with that factor :D

  • i'v been to IFA and it's so cool

  • Cool Video. People and their imagination.

We are searching for a developer

  • look at the screen bend 1:07

  • which is not a problem at all.

  • Sony vaio x series>mac air

  • ahahahah thanks mate

  • k, is this a netbook becuase it seems very small for a laptop and if so wats the difference between a normal laptop and a netbook laptop

  • netbooks are very portable and have less features than normal laptops, hence the tern netbook....useful for the net. however netbooks are very good for students, they are very portable and battery life in certain models is very good. if you dont use your cd drive alot then a netbook may well be good for you, because that is the main feature netbooks do without, also if u r a gamer netbooks are no PS3, dont bother trying to play COD4 lol.

  • carbon can still break u no, any1 no how much it is?

  • oh come on.... guess why formula 1 cockpits are made out of carbon and not plastic... you get the idea? :)

  • carbon can break but carbon fibre is a very stong material made from woven carbon which can't really. the better the weave the stonger the carbon fibre becomes, so how well this is made will determine if it will break or not, i highly doubt it will break though.

  • i dropped my 1.19kg VAIO VGNTZ on it's side, in the car park. "smack!" it cosmetically cracked a little bit! The thing is still going strong after > 2 years! These things r pretty tough.

  • holy shit did u see the screen bend as she opened it up lol fuck tht to delicate

  • its carbon... so what? you won't break it

  • Wonder if Sony will bring these to the North American market?

  • screen is so flimsy. look at 1:10.

  • no HDMI?

  • There is HDMI, you can watch the response video for a detailed walk through.

  • dude there's no HDMI at all

  • dude u are one of those hit by the apple effect. lol

remember apple compared wiv sony, i just a dwarf. and go do your research again coz sony is and will always be the leader and mother of technological invention. have a gd day!!

  • 505の感動が再び・・・。

  • かっけーw

  • actually, sony had that type of keyboard before apple ever did. look it up, apple stole it

  • im not sure who copied who, and i will check it ! but whatever happens apple made it popular, sony had it and didn't capitalise on the idea..so tough luck to sony

  • you're right!!

  • Sony came up with that keyboard layout first.

Apple 'borrowed' the design for their keyboards later on.

  • 初めてVAIOを欲しいと思った

I thought that I wanted VAIO for the first time

  • おれもだよ。 まじかっけー すごい!

Me too! Its so nice! Amazing!

  • VGA LOL

  • Comment removed

  • 700 grams = 1.54 lb, thats impressive !!

  • and with 11 inch screen and half inch thickness, and GORGEOUS design! I'm so in love with this thing.

  • i thought it was supposed to be 11.1"...

  • @detefonusa

it is not magnet top. the hinge just pressure' closes like the sony Z series laptop.

It is apple copying sony in laptops.

Sony had their version of mac air in 2003 (look up vaio x505). apple took it and copied it. This is just an update of the x505, hence 'Series X'.

  • keyboard almost looks like the old macbook

  • @iffrett

Sony was first to put this isolated 'chiclet' keyboard in their laptops. Apple copied it later.

  • I love the P series. Having a full blown Windows laptop that one can put in a pocket is great.

  • Break the screen. Jeez, don't come near my computers.

  • I've always liked VAIO.

  • nice notebook, but horrid review. less "ahm" and "erm" would be great, also get someone else to hold your cam so you can open the device with both hands. notice how the screen bends?

also: vga is so dead, why not go with hdmi?

  • this is not a review but a hands on that you are doing when you just have the chance to get the device for some 2 minutes while noone else can. aehm and erms are real!

  • the other thing i wanna add is: this is not X series, it's just a code name and will be named later once it's officially introduced.

  • it explains why it is not ultra expensive like the X505, cuz X505 was meant to be the ONE and ONLY to carry X,

  • as it stands for Extreme also it is to celebrate the original fiveOfive series which put VAIO on the map and impressed the market

  • listen smartass, you might be good in starting discussions on your own and even replying to your own comments but you are talking out of your back. It will be named Vaio X!

  • The lid appears to be very flexible. Couple of reasons why that may be.

    1) It's carbon fibre and has a flexible OLED screen.

    2) It's a non functioning concept sample.

  • neither,

it is carbon fiber casing but not OLED, it is led backlit with LCD panel, however, SONY made it flexible, check out G series the ultimate business laptop, water proof, body bending, shock resistance with G sensor, only in Japan tho.

  • I got a Vaio P 'Lifestyle PC' here, and the screen is quite flexible on that as well. Even though it's flexible it's not fragile.

  • ya flexible = bend not break

  • well yeah i know wat u mean, but if u had a G or X505 u'll fully understand how great this is, super flexible, all the ppl who say it is too waek or they wouldn't get it cuz the screen can bend like that, clearly never owned any high end Vaio or understand the carbon fiber casing, the whole idea of using carbon fiber is ONE, reduce wait; TWO, flexible and strong!

SONY makes the best computer, if they wanna WOW the world, they wouldn't do something that can easily be broken.

  • x "Viao"

    o "Vaio"

  • Looks expensive.

  • i wish it is expensive, cuz it's one of the reason why owning high end SONY is so rewarding, prestige and exclusivity, however, this one would be under 2000 dollars, massive let down, but im sure a lot of pp would love it.

  • You have a very materialistic view of life. A Vaio laptop equals prestige? Right.

  • you have a very sad and meaningless view of life. A high end Vaio like X505 and top of line Z and TT is prestige, what do u call a computer cost 6000 dollars and only numbered at 20,000 units? and you HAVE never seen real life and WILL NEVER seen one in life? Prestiage, something u cannot afford and ppl around cannot afford, ppl in ur city or community cannot afford, that's Prestiage.

  • I think you'll find the correct spelling is 'Prestige'. :p

Prestiage is the name of a local company I employ to pump out the septic tank.

  • i think u'll find that i have mixed spelling both with the right and the wrong, that tells u i just blur out wat i wanna say and type it in as fast as possible, cuz i dont wanna pay too much attention nor time on leaving comments on youtube. also i dont do proof reading, the same idea.

either prestige or prestiage, u get the point and that's the point of casual communicating. im writing an term paper for my MBA for God's sake.

  • Oh OK. It's just that I saw 'Prestiage' and it reminded me I had to get them round, as the tank is getting full.

  • where u live dude? that's gross and funny at the same time. JAJA
