  • :) Here's one I rendered earlier. ^^

  • Very, very good tutorial.

  • @emerald9810 cs4

  • Wow, Now I to worry about expensive royalties for explosions :D

  • Ooh wow, the result is so awesome but the required effort is so minimal. Even someone relatively new to photoshop like myself can pull this off with ease. Thank you very much for putting this up.

  • Move your fore ground object to the top of your layers in the layers bin.

  • change around the layers so that the spaceship is on top

  • u have to play with the layerorder....

The top layer will be the most visible... the 2nd will only be covered by the top layer and so on... and so on....

  • sry for noob question, how do u do the colorize thing? the one that changes the cloud color??? plz tell meeeee

  • I think it is ctrl u or ctrl alt u

  • You go to Image in the top bar, then Adjustments, and then Hue/Saturation.

In the bottom-right corner of the Hue/Saturation window is a checkbox called "Colorize" ,Check it and your good to go.

  • go to image - adjustments - hue/saturation or press ctrl u.

  • use HUE/SATURATİON settings. click colorize. very eazy...

  • one word "shitty"

    in non slang terms sweet!

  • A tutorial on how to make beautiful, soothing clouds into massive, fiery explosions.

Nothing is more awesome than changing clouds to explosions.

  • "have fun blowing things up... not really" - great tutorial ! Gonna try this myself - just have to take some pictures of a few more clouds :o)

  • Excellent tutorial mate, very easy and effective, cheers

  • great work! 5/5

  • Your link doesn't work!

  • thanks

  • is it better to take pictures of clouds or google um....cause i google everything...

  • You can google anything. But you gotta be really freaking sure that you don't break any copyright infringements. You SHOULDN'T have any problems with clouds, but don't hold my word on that XD

Basically if there's a copyright thing anywhere on the page, read it and if it's one of those (for personal use, sure) thingeys sure, go ahead. Follow the copyright and you'll be fine.

No copyright=easy to use, just copy it into photoshop and you're good to go :D

  • seems too good to be true....but quality wise....will google be enough...

  • I found this highly helpful. Thank you!

  • Z lol

  • no! ctrl + + or ctrl + - and alt + + or alt + -

  • i answered the hotkey shortcut for zoom LOL

  • Hey, just a quick question, how do you do the overlay thing that you kept mentioning?

    Please respond and thx,

  • Go to the layer window, click on a laer you want and on top of the layer window, click on the "normal" and a list of options will come out, click overlay.

  • ,it's from the layer palette, there's a blending mode option..then change it to overlay..he just do the shortcut keys on keyboard..

  • tnxs man !!

  • cool idea ^^

  • Would this work if I rendered clouds with Photoshop?

  • it proberly will

  • it will. pick your colours, got to filters /rendering filters and choose CLOUDS one time. After that, go back to filters /rendering filters and this time choose Difference Clouds, that will invert your colors, but intensify your cloudy texture. Hit Difference Clouds again and you intensify some more and reinvert the coloirs again.

Use that to your disrcetion and shape the clouds by Transforming them ...

  • @GUTTGrinder

It is even BETTER if you rendered it. You don't have to erase the edges or anything! Only colorize and overlay! :D

  • i have cs4 and i ahve a hard time changing the color. help me?

  • You can find the Hue/Saturation window under Image/Adjustments. Standard keyboard shortcut would be ctrl+U...

  • nice

  • what program did he use to build the ship? just cant find out, plz help

  • either 3D Studio Max or Maya probably.

  • oor he just googled a pic

  • thats a great video, never knew I could do THAT in photoshop...with clouds as well!

  • thats the coolest I've seen photoshop can do!

  • how can you that sky behind that space thing at the begin?

  • cool, im gonna go blow up my house

  • I have a different version of Photoshop so I got really lost about erasing the parts of the "fire," but futhermore, it didn't come out bad (mine, that is.) Yours came out SO much better! Thx for putting this up.

  • can u do the same tutorial but use photoshop CS4?? The functions on CS4 is a lot different

  • Great man.

  • wow!!

really thx, its fantastic !!!! :D

  • This is a very old version of photoshop right??

  • It looks like CS1, but I could be wrong.

  • This is a really great tutorial, and I love the way you've done it--it's brilliant, really, but there's one little snag in this example--There's no explosions in space.

  • No no there are explosions in space. I think you meant how there are no sounds in space. If you want an example of something burning in space, there's always that bright yellow thing in the sky or supernovae.

  • Space is a vacuum, a vacuum contains no air. Fire needs oxygen to burn. There are no explosions in space besides ones taking place within the atmosphere of planets.

  • I wonder what the pilot breathes inside his cockpit there might be some oxygen in that. I wonder what's in the fuel tank? Maybe some fuel and oxidizer? I heard that rocket fuel can blow things up pretty well when it's not controlled. Besides what we're talking about here is a quick explosion. Not a long drawn out fire.

  • Some, but unless you unleash a vast amount of oxygen into the area it won't do anything. You need at least 16% oxygen to keep a fire burning. Fires and explosions are essentially the same thing, but explosions occur much quicker and more violently and usually aren't sustained.

So, with that being said, the only way you're going to have 16% oxygen in the immediate area around the said explosions is by being inside an atmosphere.

  • Why do I get the impression that you haven't read my whole post? Why does this happen so much online? *sigh* I'll repeat myself. Rocket fuel blows up big. BIG KABOOM. If you're wondering where the oxygen comes from, did you know that there's such a thing as oxidizers? Also if the ship is using fission, fusion, antimatter drives, or the like, then the question of oxygen is just removed....Just re-read my last comment.

  • You can not light i fire in space, but you can have a fire burning for the duration of the fuel being burned. Space ships do not use rocket fuel out side of the Earths atmosphere because there is no gravity so they detach the fuel tank. You don't no much about space neither does psychomike, I hope this settles your dispute.

  • Lighting fire is possible for the duration of fuel and oxidizer. Also the spaceships that you're speaking of are not the type to be able to do actual combat as they jettison their fuel and then follow planned paths with only inertia and the gravity of nearby planets n' crap to help it. We're talking about the kinds of ships that can change direction and accelerate by themselves in space. Last I checked, those require some form of propulsion. Don't insult others unless you're sure you're better.
