  • i have recently realised that after each of my forehands i wasnt wrapping big enuff. i ki9nda stopped halfway after i hit the ball. lessen the chances of tennis elbow by fully wrapping your arm about your shoulder. this is really important.

  • Although a bit wristy, my guess is the reason you have pain is your grip tension is too tight. Try letting your bottom 3 fingers flow off the racquet after contact to ensure a flexible wrist when practicing. There is a device from the website "On-Court/Off-court" called "grip loose," that has proved effective for alot of my students. Lastly, I have seen a few fairly accomplished players actually change as their strength has changed, from a 4 3/8 to 4 5/8 and vice versa which has helped them

  • you need to work on your footwork when u hit and that is going to change the way you hit the ball and your wrist and arm movement.. about the video- you probably are getting the pain from overplayiing. ive had tennis elbow for while and all you can do is rest it i know its hard but its worth it. also do streches and exercises.

  • you may want to try wearing wristbands and putting a shock absorber on your racket ( i didnt see one tho u may have one) ik that when i play with a wristband i have much less pain and its not my technique ive tried the same idea and my strokes r perfect.

  • @and26rip you have a stroke technique issue, that's causing it or your muscles are wearing down. do forearm curls and examine your stroke on vid--any elbow lock out? any excessive wrist?

  • the forehand this guy is hitting is somewhat different than a classical topspin forehand, as he is not swinging completely through the ball and finishing over the shoulder with the follow-through. this forehand though ( the windshield wiper forehand as some may call it), is very convenient for generating spin and pace on short/low balls and/or balls with little pace. granted he is hitting with a wall, so there's minimal time for a full swing.

  • it is okay to turn your wrist in a waving motion from side to side as long as it is kept back. what is mega fail is when your wrist moves forward.

  • thank you, this is helpful. i also notice that you use [almost exclusively] your arm itself much more than using your body to move your arm/make your shots, & that also causes tennis elbow (trust me, i have terrible tennis elbow & i do the same darn thing)

  • I'm starting to think that surface makes a difference. when we play on a fast surface, my arm hurts.

  • It could make a difference but still, if your strokes are technically sound you will not suffer from a tennis elbow except for maybe when you play like 3 hours a day.

  • @mysteriekiller that's a completely false statement. i have many friends playing D1 tennis and are in the top 50 for the country and they still get tennis elbow. poor technique is not always the case.

    i play an extreme westerngrip and have lots of wristaktion on my forehand.

    in slow motion looks like nadals or brugueras wristmotion

    believe me a natural wristaktion on a forehand doesnt cause injuries, and a forehand with a fixed wrist wont be a weapon!

    you have to work on every single part of your kinetic chain to develop a great forehand!

    tennisteachers who say fix your wrist or your elbow, or swing only with your arm are totaly wrong!

  • that's a great answer. developing the whole kinetic chain is very difficult and as you age, things break down. my friend, from ipodtennispros, and i feel that Nadal's strokes places a lot of stress on his body and he is going to continue to suffer injuries--note the knee trouble he has.

  • i dont know if nadal is going to continue to suffer injuries, but his strokes are very fluent- i think the injuries are not because of his strokes, its because he is fighting like no one else to win a point.

    to use every part of the kinetic chain helps to avoid injuries, because if you swing only with your arm, you but lots of stress on it, but if you use your whole body the stress will be evenly distributed and you get more power in your strokes

    if you study his stroke, his arm is very relaxed, and very light footwork too save his wrists and his knees

    i never had injuries like TENNIS ELBOW.

    if you want to develop a great forehand, you need to use every single chain of your body, dont fix something like wrist or elbow.- just let the wrist fly and dont think about it, a natural forehandswing doesnt have a fixed wrist!

  • you mean just let it flow through right. it's difficult to teach that so you add in the fixed wrist to prevent the injuries.

  • You hit the ball cleanly...however from what i can c your only using your arm as the only factor during the progression of the swing.... try either close or semi-close stance. Use ur hip as a leverage. For me I had elbow problem from the prepration... I misinterpreted the swing and would turn my elbow(forcefully) far back. And follow through in that postion....damn did that hurt...luckly I was able to fix it...but im hoping that did not leave any permanent damage or etc..
