I guess SEGA is deathly afraid that if they acknowledge his involvement Sonic will be blackballed. It would be so neat to hear Sonic 3 with the digital version of the soundtrack he composed though. MJ didn't do the music for Sonic 3. Or if he did, the bosses at Sega didn't know about it, and it wasn't used in the end. There's been some good research about it, and I myself have spoken with sega's CEO from the time who knew nothing about it. Meanwhile the people who did write the game's music are credited and well known.
MJ did do the music for Sonic 3. Thats why the music in the game is so similar to his. The reason why he wasn't credited was because around the time of the game MJ was being charged for child molestation. So Sega cut the deal with him because they were worried about their repetation. But they still used some of his music. And when you beat the game as Sonic 3 & Knuckles more people are credited for doing the music. And all those people have worked with MJ before so yeah.
That's because the Mega Collection versions aren't ports, they are just emulators playing ROM files. So in order to change the music would involve rom hacking and writing new music for the Genesis Sound chip which would be too much hassle for Sega since they have gotten a bit lazy with these compilations. However in the Sonic and Knuckles collection on the PC the music was changed since those were actual ports and not emulation.
Did you custom-make this mix? If so, I'd like to know what program you're using to alter the tempo so both songs have the same tempo in the final mix. I'm not asking about the mixing, I'm asking about the touch-up (if they happen to be the same program, so be it). I've tried making my own mix like this by plugging both mp3's into Nero's WaveEditor and using time correction to set both mp3s to the same tempo manually, but tempo values are rounded off (to percentiles of the original bpm)

I agree 100%. Micheal defineltly did the music for Sonic 3. This song is awesome and its even more awesome when Sonic 3 credits theme is mixed with it. Good job with this. :)

MJ didn't do the music for Sonic 3. Or if he did, the bosses at Sega didn't know about it, and it wasn't used in the end. There's been some good research about it, and I myself have spoken with sega's CEO from the time who knew nothing about it. Meanwhile the people who did write the game's music are credited and well known.

MJ did do the music for Sonic 3. Thats why the music in the game is so similar to his. The reason why he wasn't credited was because around the time of the game MJ was being charged for child molestation. So Sega cut the deal with him because they were worried about their repetation. But they still used some of his music. And when you beat the game as Sonic 3 & Knuckles more people are credited for doing the music. And all those people have worked with MJ before so yeah.

Mabye MJ sparked controversy back then due to the child molestation charges, and they decided to put it back after it died down.

That's because the Mega Collection versions aren't ports, they are just emulators playing ROM files. So in order to change the music would involve rom hacking and writing new music for the Genesis Sound chip which would be too much hassle for Sega since they have gotten a bit lazy with these compilations. However in the Sonic and Knuckles collection on the PC the music was changed since those were actual ports and not emulation.

Did you custom-make this mix? If so, I'd like to know what program you're using to alter the tempo so both songs have the same tempo in the final mix. I'm not asking about the mixing, I'm asking about the touch-up (if they happen to be the same program, so be it). I've tried making my own mix like this by plugging both mp3's into Nero's WaveEditor and using time correction to set both mp3s to the same tempo manually, but tempo values are rounded off (to percentiles of the original bpm)
