You could eliminate the entire Defense Department along with its budget for overseas contingency operations and you would still have 800 billion in deficits.
There's a credible case to be made for cutting the base budget. However, you cannot tackle the U.S. federal deficit without taking into account Social Security and Medicare.
When I rule the USA I'm completely killing social security, medicaid, UN payments, and federal employees will collect minimum wage from president down. The UN will leave USA soil, All civilians will work no matter what and all imports will end so they can have jobs to work at.
Current defense bill in US is $726 billion. That's for just one year. China, the second highest spender, is at about $90 billion. In other words, US outspends the number two country by 800%. US accounts for almost half of all defense spending in the entire world. This is madness.
All those military bases and soldiers could not stop a handful of terrorists from flying airplanes into the Trade Towers and The Pentagon.
David Walker, the comptroller (chief accountant) has been saying the US is facing serious problems, possibly even economic collapse because of our aging population. As Americans get older, the government will have much less money to play with.

I think we should try to have the strongest military, but are all these bases really needed? I don't think we need bases in Germany they don't need our protection anymore. If the US can hold it's resource domination which i isn't doing well so far then it can have a fine democracy based economy picking who to steal from next and will hence continue to have a good economy otherwise they may have to rethink their side of the economy altogether. The best thing Russia and the like can do is to help them therefore as a country prepare for a world that they don't cripple and dominate.
The whole system is going to come crashing down. the military and the country will be devistated. People will be angry, but by then it will be too late. The damage would have been done.

It's not going to happen. The US/NATO simply upholds the system that the West set up over the last 400 years.
It's a great system if you live in the west, sure set up a sweet situation for ourselves. And it's only tenable if global stability reigns.
If western military power wasn't there to uphold the system, the west would crumble. Like your standard of living? I know I do. Everyone does.

1. Put an end to the wars.
2. Shut down unnecessary military bases.
3. No financial support for any country unless it benefits American people and economy.
