Ahhh so that's why you need to keep your hands in the carriage. Last time I went on the ride I had a splashing ride with the boat behind. Needless to say the cast members didn't take it too well.
This Cast Member did the opposite of what he was suppose to do! He accomplished nothing, you need to report it and in the mean time keep on eye on it, but hitting the water was only provoking the gator into attack mode. The opposite of what CM are trained to do in these situations.
This one isn't much of a problem but his bigger cousins get into the Rivers of America from time to time and could cause a commotion. In fact, this is one of the reasons that WDW closed the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes several years ago. If you see a 12 foot alligator from the riverboat, it's no problem but if a 12 footer swims up to your canoe and a tourist panics and tips the canoe over, you have a big problem.
I hear Disney's got guys that get the gator's out once they hit a certain size. Not surprised it's there though. Where there's water in Florida, there's probably an alligator.
I worked MGM Studios Orlando for a few years, the Fantasmic Show... we had Gators backstage ALL the time... The whole park is surrounded by lakes. Next time you're in Disney, stop at one of the lakes, watch the shore lines for a while.. you WILL see gators. Freaky, eh?
Ohmygosh. Did they get him outta there? I can't believe how close he was 2 the ride!!! Any closer, he could have been struck and killed, and that could have killed other people too. Thank God there was someone there to distract him
And seriously ppl, the guy is doing a good thing for the gator
Okay, if you are going to mess with the gator like that, you might as well temporarrily shut down the ride, get a team of professionals in there, and get him out. Then there would be no need for wacking him with a pool pole.
I was in the same area a couple of years back watching the ducks swim around..when all of the sudden an Alligator shot up and ate one. Freaked some kids out near me too lol
Awesome video..I've seen sea snakes by the watery area behind Crystal Palace, but have never seen an actual gator on WDW property..always knew they were around tho..will be on the lookout while at the resort beaches this year:)
I like the people who comment about gators as if they actually have intimate knowledge about the animals... and on that note, the cast member was absolutely justified in "tapping" the gator on the nose in order to keep it away from guests on the ride. Great vid though!
@LandLockedBlues13 Actually, i think they're more concerned about the gator getting into the flume and getting seriously hurt by one of the boats...though the gator isn't that big, I honestly don't think there's much room in there for it to swim.
I saw two small alligators near splash mountain in 2002. The ones I saw were very close to both the ride and the vendor near the bridge.
I no longer have any desire to go to Tom Sawyer Island or hang out near any Disney resort beaches. While I loved River Country, I wouldn't go if it reopened.
the manager should have gotten into trouble...for 2 reasons he is in a area the he shouldnt be while the ride is operational and he is hitting a wild animal on Disney property
ha ha this is nice. i especially like patrick with the pool skimmer. i dunno if you other people noticed but he is right along the ride path. he could easily get out and get right next to the guests in the logs. hence why he is trying to scare it away.
That gator was minding his own business. that Cast Member was stupid hitting it like that. gator should have bit him. Splash Mnt and the rivers of America get gators all the time. People freak out, the gator won't bother you unless you bother him.
Its a wild animal that is dangerously close to park guests in an uncontained environment. What if he had climbed up the ground level where those boats were riding and someone stuck there hand out and got bitten? Major law suit. You can't just let that all to chance.
well hes trying to keep the gator from getting into the ride and being smashed and causing the log flume to de-rail and then the other flumes come down and hitting causing ppl to get injured and sueing the park and the park getting introuble for not watching the animal also
My friend lost her hand and part of her wrist to a gator that size when she was in Louisiana dragging her hand through the water off the side of a boat. Yes, that was a dumb move since she was in gator country, but even a small gator can do a lot of damage.
I would not have thought that could happen. I am just thinking that if you see it and it's that size it's not a threat unless you offer your hand to it. I still have a hard time believing one that small could tear of anything bigger than a finger. But I trust your account.
wow im sorry but that guy is stupid all he had to do was go behind it grab his mouth and keep it closed then take it somewhere else

Poor alligator, geez!
And that is slightly horrifying that an alligator could see easily get into this large isolated park.
Biggest creature I've ever seen in Disneyland is a kitty cat (or maybe a fish in the Rivers of America).

That's freaking terrifying. You can only imagine what is in the Rivers of America and on the shores of Tom Sawyer Island ._.

SmexxiPudding 1 year ago
@SmexxiPudding It swims. It's easy for alligators to get around in a state that probably has more water than land.

@SmexxiPudding its in florida, there are many miles of everglades and it problably just walked in

I've seen Gators wild at Disney World, but they're usually tiny, baby things. About the size of your hand, maybe. Never one this big.
