Why is autonomy good for Tibet or most minority groups most every where?
I don't think autonomy is good for Hawaii, for example. I think assimilation is far better for all to come in the future. Why must there be a group of Americans called the Hawaiians?
The US Senate rejected the Akaka Bill, which would have given the Hawaiians cultural autonomy. I think the Senate is correct.

Hi TibetHeart, lucky 'serfdom' is a thing of the past now in Tibet, but it do exist until 1959. u can search it on google or youtube and some of the serfs are still alive, very old now but still remember the bad old days. In 1959, the serf want freedom and drive the nobility away with China guarentee a safe passage for them to reach India.
Don't u know HH Dalai Lama was the vice-chairman of China until he left in 1959. He was a VIP and visited China extensively.

The PROOF of how BAD things are in Tibet
If things were good in Tibet then reporters would be allowed into Tibet, and Tibetan refugees would be heading back to Tibet, because Tibetans love Tibet.
But each year thousands of Tibetans are risking their lives and physical wellbeing trying to get out of Tibet.
Yet ANY tourist can fly in and out of Tibet whenever access is not being blocked. So any tourist visiting Tibet has far more rights in Tibet than Tibetans.

Why did the Dalai Lama tour the rest of China to witness progress in 1951? As a regional head in China.
Even he does not deny that Tibet needs the rest of China. He wants autonomy.
I can understand his motivation, but autonomy now is segregation in the future. It is better to accept mutual exposure and allow the offspring real choice after exposure, just like forced busing of children in the USA.
