I've finally figured out what it is that separates Dave from the rest. It's that he seems to fill all those internal nuances others can't, and he does so to perfection. Jazz is the discreet notes and all the subtle licks that span the gap of flamboyancy all other styles leave unsung and Dave is a master of showcasing that. It's the smooth completion of notes he plays as a continuation so musically within the context of all he does that makes you feel like his drumming is so utterly thorough.

Dave Weckl is the world drumartist without twirling sticks and maniac-speeds on bassdrum, (wich is so popular now) He doesn´t need to proof that at all!

He is briliant with tecnique from outer space... and a musician at a highest level! Don´t forget, He´s the one who brought his style out via his videos and dvd very early in His carer; Traditional grip, singelstrokes became usefull to anybody. Thank you Dave for your inspiration!!

I was beginning to watch a lot of Virgil Donati and started thinking he was better than Dave, but there's no way he's better. It's too close to call and what's more, not necessary to call.

No dude you have to watch and listen to a LOT of Virgil's stuff to hear and see how unbelievable he is.

Not sure which one is better, but it's close in any regard and for sure doesn't matter in the end.

Even Weckl has said that Virgil was born to drum.

Weckl will always be my favorite, but I really try to be subjective because there are many great drummers out there.

Watch and listen to Virgil and you'll see how amazing the guy is.

I think we already had this conversation. We should probably agree to disagree at this point. Ok, Donati doesnt suck, he's a fine drummer, but i dont think he is in Weckl's class. I've seen him play, he sounds a lot like many of the other metal clone type drummers out there, with their heavy double bass patterns. Which isnt to say he's bad, just possibly overrated. I respect your opinion though.

Cool....and you know what? I listened more to Donati, and he's a bitch man. I was impressed that he used a lot of odd meters and broken time signatures instead of the typical crap. Great technique, nice soloing, great drummer. I can be a hard sell, but I'll admit when I'm wrong!
