  • @TWILTalks Hello !! I want to ask you a question.

Can you please, please, tell me how can I install

Ubuntu in my Macbook Pro 13'' 2011 like you did in this video. Please I want to make a triple boot in my laptop,

    windows 7, mac os x, and ubuntu linux (10.10 {desktop edition}, or 11.04 ). Please I need it very much !! Have a nice day !! :)

  • Im having troubles getting the Wi-Fi to work on a MacBook Pro 8,2, any help? Thanks in advance

  • I'm a mac user but use Linux a lot as well I love the freedom and expandability of Linux but for every day and media use I use mac it just works for me bug Ubuntu on a mac with OSX dual booting is pretty spot on for me lol so good on you mate lol

  • Its interesting that you mention Blender – do you intend using it as a video editor? Personally, I have tried Cinelerra, Kdenlive, Openshot, you name it... and I have never been able to get anything done with these. The only video editor I feel at home with, get creative with and that I don't have to fight at all to get what I want, is Blender. Yep, I just keep coming home to Blender to get stuff done.

  • @prchkkizhe7 I'd like to learn how to use it as a video editor. I like Kdenlive for my primary video editing work, but for any sort of effects work, it would be nice to know how to use Blender (that and using it for 3d modeling)

  • Sorry, Mac OS X for me.

  • Have you tried installing Arch Linux on your Macbook Pro?

  • @RichmanDEranGed I have indeed. Ran it on there for a couple of months. Of course it wasn't terribly useful at the time, because wireless drivers weren't available. Now they are, so most distros (at least those with access to kernel 3.2, or a newer version of compat-wireless) are much more usable/useful on it.

I was having to carry a wireless USB dongle around with me before.

  • @TWILTalks Did you use the Macbook wiki on Archwiki for installation? I am debating whether to install Ubuntu or Arch on my 7,1. I am looking mainly for compatibility. Do you know if Arch offers the same extent of compatibility as Ubuntu (with 10.10 everything is compatible on MBP 7,1)?

  • @RichmanDEranGed I don't believe I used the Arch Wiki, no. I actually installed Ubuntu first, then reformatted the partitions with Arch. The key thing, if you're using boot camp, is to make sure 1. to install Grub to the partition, not to the MBR of the drive, and 2. to leave the 150-200mb of space between the OSX partition and the first Linux partition.

  • Great video! Have been using Ubuntu for a while and would love to tripleboot it on my relatively new MacBook Pro.

  • You are epic man! Don't let anything or anybody make you feel down!! Keep rocking love you vids!

  • Your are awesome!

  • is the battery life better, worst or the same when running ubuntu?

  • For a tri-boot, on Windows could I just use the wubi installer to avoid any partitioning tools that I could use to possibly ruin my MacBook agai?

  • @A135S4656 No, wubi uses Windows boot manager which macs dont use.

  • LOL you looks like Steve Jobs when he was young LMAO

  • macs are cool but the OS is shit Ubuntu forever!

  • @Hurlanator yeah mac OS sucks balls

  • does the multitouch trackpad fully works in ubuntu? e.g 3 finger expose effect? can u publish some benchmarks?

  • I can't get mine to to install. I get a BusyBox error claiming I lack a live file system.I am running Lion, I dunno if that might of shifted things around, but I'd really love to have my favorite OS, OS X, and my second favorite, Ubuntu, on my shinny new mac.

  • @Arcadium1177 getting the exact same problem as you. Several have posted in the official ubuntu forums to no reliable solution. I guess we'll have to wait for the time being. Apple always has to tinker with things...

  • @Arcadium1177 one of the guys in my LUG has the exact same Macbook pro as I do (his wife does too) and neither of theirs would boot from a liveCD, with the same sort of error as you're seeing. I believe he took his to the Apple store and got them to replace the DVD drive. Not sure if that made a difference or not, though. Haven't talked to him in a while.

However, the wireless still isn't supported in Linux. They're going to try to get the driver into kernel version 3.2, I believe.

  • @TWILTalks I managed to get it in by installing 10.04 and moving my way up to 11.04. But yeah, I'm missing almost all the drivers but the display. Even the keyboard and trackpad drivers aren't functional. I hope that this is something that totally gets fixed in the future though.

  • Burnout??

  • Does anyone know where to find ndiswrapper driver for the 32-bit Ubuntu? The MacOS CD has the version 6, but the current ndiswrapper needs version 5.

I tried to install Win7 64 bits, but I get "A required CD/DVD device driver is missing" at the beginning of the installation.

  • Is kdenlive good for professional editors?

  • @AwesomeRants I guess that depends on what you mean by "professional". I use it exclusively, and it works well for me, but I'm hardly professional. I'm going to be talking to the developers of Novacut, a new "professional" open source editor, this afternoon. Cinelerra is also highly recommended for "pro" use on Linux, but it's difficult to get used to.

  • i have a macbook pro 8,2 how did you get ubuntu to work with out it freezing up at random times or pausing while logging in?

  • @xtremeshredder1 Did you install the wireless drivers using ndiswrapper? If so, that would be the cause of it locking up. Until Broadcom officially releases drivers for the 4331 wireless card for Linux, the safest bet is to just use a USB wireless dongle if you intend to use Linux, sadly.

  • man i got this os and the internet keeps disconnecting and my internet speed is as slow as hell, about to lose my patience with it... any suggestions?

  • Is there any way i can get 10.04.2 LTS on this macbook(the same one you have)? I can't connect to wireless and there is no video driver... I can't stand 11.04 It's slow and buggy even with the Classic UI

  • @JoelB3783 you should be able to install 10.04.2 on this same macbook, but the wireless still won't work. Broadcom hasn't put out a Linux driver for the BCM 4331 chip yet, so the only options are to use the Ndiswrapper with the Windows driver, or use a USB wireless dongle that's supported. that's what I've been doing.

As far as the graphics, mine has integrated intel graphics, so no driver is needed, it's in the kernel.

  • @TWILTalks I've been trying for 2 1/2 hours to install my wireless driver. I downloaded ndiswrapper 1.56, and when I went into aplplication/windows wireless drivers it brought me to a popup to install new driver. I inserted my win7( I have mac and dual boot to win7) but I can't find the .inf files for my wireless driver. Can you please explain to me where I need to go to install my .inf files?

  • @haroldgar12 if you go to help.ubuntu.com/community/MacBookPro8-1/Natty#Wireless, they've got a link to where you can download the Windows driver to use with it. However, it's VERY unstable (it caused my installation of Ubuntu and Arch to lock up and refuse to load), so until the open source Broadcom driver is done, I would have to recommend using a USB dongle if you have one.

  • @TWILTalks "so until the open source Broadcom driver is done" So you're saying they are working on making a driver that's compatible with ubuntu? If so, I wonder how long that'll take. I have a macbook pro 2011. I'll have to keep on checking in to see when they're done with it.

  • @haroldgar12 They are indeed. On 7/9 (about 9 days ago), one of the developers said

"We're currently on a big push to finish cleaning up the driver and moving into mainline. After that, we'll be working on adding a number of new chips."

So hopefully in the next few months we should see an official open source driver for it. :)

  • @TWILTalks I hope so because I would like the wireless to work. I've always wanted to learn linux ubuntu, but never had the time, but now I do. It's a pretty cool OS. My MAcbook pro 2011(which I bought in March 2011) handles all three OS(Mac, Win7, Ubuntu) pretty good. I thought for a min that the reason I wasn't able to get my wireless drivers working was because of my macbook pro 2011. I read somewhere that I can go into my win7 OS and retrieve some wireless drivers(.inf) to use for ubuntu's.

  • I had 11.04 on my macbook pro 3,1. everything works fine. but the plymouth bootloader does not show up. I go through a purple screen to the login. Any fix for this?

  • @botgiatviso I'm not familiar with the 3,1. Does that come with a discrete graphics card? (nvidia or ati?) and if so, did you install the proprietary graphics drivers?

  • So, which do you like more, ubuntu 11.04 or osx?

  • Oh my god, I'm jelly of your Tux penguins <3.

  • @Titanz91 lol. I picked most of them up when I started making videos to have something else in the background, but with the new camera, they're almost unnecessary.

  • ubuntu bootloader interface sucks.. I wish it was something like mac os dual boot menu

  • @eldaguinio it's possible to install a different boot manager on Ubuntu, such as BURG, which is supposed to be very nice. i haven't bothered with it, though.

  • what are the benefits of using ubuntu?

  • @eldaguinio Ubuntu vs OSX? Lots of free software, customizability (if you don't like the Unity interface, you can replace it with whatever one you want), etc.

  • @TWILTalks I would say that the bad thing with Linux is the limited software. Linux have more free software yes, but the pay ones on Mac and Windows is lot better and bigger companies have better support for mac and windows, that is one thing why I use Mac, because I need photoshop etc. for my work (and wine isn't good enough).

  • how do you get the multitouch to work?

  • @b5c7d6 multitouch worked out of the box, I just had to go into the Mouse settings and tell it to use two-finger scrolling.

  • hii gordon how is the laptop compared to you're desktop

  • it's good ,but I hate unity..

  • I found your vides very informational! Thank you.

I also bought a Macbook Pro 2011 last week, but unfortunately Ubuntu 11.04 DVD will not boot ;( I also get the message:

(initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system

  • I have a fast and simple question.

When I boot up in Ubuntu, the wallpaper shows that odd purple wallpaper that comes stock before it swaps to my own. Is there any way to make it start with your wallpaper and not be all purple?

  • Ubuntu classic is SO much better. I switched from unity like half an hour in.

  • @TheiBurley Called Gnome, bro

  • I'm surprised apple doesn't use Intel wireless chipset in MacBook Pro

but if the MacBook Pro is build how i think it is you should be able to upgrade the hardware

  • How about the battery life.. how many hours you reach over ubuntu on your macbook pro?

  • I have already resized the hard drive using Boot Camp, but I have a problem, when I reboot and start form Ubuntu Live disk, it shows the plymouth and then i get this message: (initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system. My Macbook is exactly like this, i don´t know what I´m doing wrong :(. Can somebody help me? I really need to work on Ubuntu :S

  • @27aBe27 one of the guys in my LUG is having the same issue. Not a clue what's going on with it...

  • I have running Linux mint 10 (32bit) on a macbook late 2008.... Yay.

  • I have a Macbook and i installed Ubuntu, but it doesn't connect to wireless networks, the graphics card doesn't work and i REALLY need these things working. If anyone knows what's going on, please help me

  • @AndroidIdeas with the newest Macbooks, they have a broadcom wireless chip that doesn't have an available driver for Linux yet. if you google for "macbook natty" the first link should be the Ubuntu Wiki, which has info on the wireless in it.

If you have one of the macbooks with a dedicated graphics card and intel integrated as well, it's going to use the Intel by default. You'll have to look into vga_switcheroo for the way to switch to the dedicated card.

  • @TWILTalks Thank you so much, i hate Mac OS because there's no software on it, and Windows is too heavy and needs a TON of additional software, ill try to do as you said, again THX!!

  • @TWILTalks I did exacly what you said and i got Wi-fi working well (installed a pendrive thingy) but i found the vga_switcheroo file but i have NO idea what to do, im sorry, im kinda of a noob, i only know how to build computers, no programming...

  • @AndroidIdeas This site might help, but be very careful. asusm51ta-with-linux.blogspot.com/

  • @TWILTalks I run Debian Squeeze on my Macbook Pro 5,1 but my Wife recently picked up the same MBP as you and ran into some of the same problems as you. The Debian macbook wireless section on their Wiki is still pretty much applicable to Ubuntu. (remember to sudo!) With that, it helped me get 11.04 running without too much of a problem. Only difference is, I used rEFIt for my boot menu.

    How do you like Unity?

  • @jimmyjampola sadly, the newest MBP still doesn't have wireless drivers from the manufacturer. I haven't tried b43-fwcutter yet. been a long time since i've used it, but I just looked at their site, and it shows the BCM4331 as being unsupported. :/

  • @TWILTalks You're right, my mistake, the wifey is using a 7,1 MBP which has the supported BCM chipset (obviously NOT the same as yours) - Thanks for the video's BTW :)

  • @jimmyjampola I figured it must have been the previous one. Kinda sad that the new hardware isn't supported yet, but I'm sure Broadcom will do something about it soon enough.

  • @jimmyjampola missed your question about Unity, sorry. I don't mind Unity, but it feels like it requires more mouse interaction than Gnome Shell to me.

  • @TWILTalks I haven't been able to get into Unity not Gnome Shell yet... I've tried but it still feels unnatural to me. I really am trying to stay open minded though!

  • Wait what, blender works amazing on linux?

I only have problems with gimp atm. when i change color balance it renders so slooooowww.. and i've installed drivers. Using crunchbang though; that might be the prob.

Anyway cool that you can run ubuntu on mac

  • @raket94 I believe Blender works very well on Linux, yes. I don't have much experience with it, though.

Crunchbang is based off of Debian, isn't it? Perhaps more updated software/drivers would help?

  • @TWILTalks It's one of the best open source softwares i've ever used so definetly try it out!

Yes it's based of Debian. I downloaded the drivers from ATI's webpage. As far as i'm concerned it's slower than before. And i don't know how to uninstall them..

  • So do you recommend me to try Ubuntu 11.04? How well does it run on the Macbook Pro cause I've been thinking about giving mine a shot..

  • @H4x0r18 you've got the 15" with the ATI and Intel hybrid graphics, don't you? If so, Ubuntu will only use Intel by default. You might be able to get the ATi working by using the vga_switcheroo settings, but I haven't had any luck with it on my other system.

the other big problem is the wireless drivers. does yours have the broadcom 4331 like mine? If so, broadcom hasn't released Linux drivers yet.

  • @TWILTalks Yes, I have the 15.4" model. Intel HD Graphics 3000 & ATI Radeon HD 6490M. Broadcom BCM4331 as my wireless card. I'll definitely have to give vga_switheroo setttings a shot. Did you install it under boot camp?

  • @H4x0r18 I created a second partition using boot camp, then rebooted to the Ubuntu CD. the broadcom wireless doesn't work without using Ndiswrapper, which causes instability. I'm going to end up using a USB wireless adapter for now, it seems.

  • I run linux on all my machines, and dualboot on my mac`s. OsX is unix, so its a part of the unix/linux family. But its not open source thou....

I like your channel Jordan! Keep up the good work :-)

  • I'm so sorry I join Mark Shuttleworth linux is still use a second degree apps. Linus himself said it's all about apps and linux is still use good apps but not first degree apps that really capable, hey man didn't you look around lately there is websites uses sliverlight last time I checked linux "Ubuntu" don't have sliverlight I know there's moonlight for firefox but it isn't the same. sorry to I made it long love your work.

  • The funny thing about kinda almost all of the linux users they used it as a secondary OS but not like it's the main one because of the application, you have the mac apps very very impressive what ever we agree on the interface or not it well built nice to have product and the windows guys they say Hey I can do this or that I have market share so I have like any app that can run everything and the last guys they say use linux love linux it the most capable os out there ....etc but

  • No need to excuse yourself for liking Mac's and OSX, you are not the only one. Good products are just that; good products. Personally I would never buy an expensive Mac to run Ubuntu, the nice thing is that it also runs great on a $500 laptop. But you should do whatever you prefer.

  • @mdutours that's the nice thing about it, though. I didn't buy it just to run Ubuntu (otherwise I would have just stuck with my previous laptop). I bought it to have the choice of what OS I want to run, and because the hardware design is very nice. And like someone said in the earlier comments, you'll be hard pressed to find a 13-inch laptop with an aluminum body, core i5 sandy bridge processor and a decent amount of RAM for the same price. :)

  • @TWILTalks - In that case you made a great choice. I really like the Sandy Bridge processor line and the i5 is a great processor. And Mac's and OSX are great as well.

  • @mdutours well thank you. :)

I've had my ups and downs messing around with OSX, but it seems to be a fine OS as well.

  • Sweet! Dirty apple. Make clean with ubuntu.

  • @TheLinuxsensei even though it does sound bad, that's exactly what I was getting at. what I use should have no impact on what others use. :)

  • @chris1abramczyk well, yes and no. it's Sandy Bridge graphics, so they're improved quite a bit over previous integrated graphics. Still nothing amazing, but considering my Vostro only used the integrated graphics from the core i5 in it (non sandy bridge) I do get a bit better performance.

  • I love all operating systems and I keep going back and forth between Windows, OSX and various Linux distros. I can't make up my mind!

  • Honestly, the MacBook pro is the only choice when it comes to a 13 inch laptop. I dare anyone to look for a 13 inch laptop that does not have a core 2 duo or a ulv processor for the same price.

  • @DarthScape The 13 inch sony vaio s series is pretty nice, but also very similarly priced.

  • Options are always good to have :)

  • You should be happy for getting a new computer, whatever brand it is! And dont think much about the angry people, its easy to be "angry" in the Internet through anonymous ways. If they were face to face, it would be different story!

Im trying to get BackTrack 5 (work related) to run on my Macbook atm ;)

  • There's PPA has the latest version of intel driver (2.15) with lots of fixes to sandy bridge. Maybe it could enhance your experience.

  • I was a Mac user for a few years after they switched to Intel. I sold the Mac because I didn't want to support Apple and wanted more control over my laptop. It's been a few years now and I'm thinking about making my next computer a MacBook Air. I just like having the option to use OS X if needed.

I'll be sure to add a skin to the back if I do switch again. I hate having a computer that looks like everyone else's.

  • Having any issues with keyboard backlights? My late '08 Macbook Pro has issues with some of the details like those in Ubuntu.

  • @BoiledNotScrambled no issues whatsoever. out of the box, the keyboard lights buttons on the keyboard worked.

  • I wouldn't worry about the haters! You are always going to have that 30% that you can never make happy.

  • @jtwebman sadly, up to this point, it hasn't been 30% unhappy. :P

  • @TWILTalks Keep up the good work I enjoy your video very much!

  • Bummer mac is using Broadcom not a fan of their network cards.

  • Perhaps live stream once a week?

  • my biggest current mistake was upgrading ubuntu 10.04 to 11.04. 11 was waaaay slower then the earlier release.on my machine anyway.it has more then enough power to run it,but still ran like an old lady :)) long story short , i'm using mint 10 now :D

  • Bah sorry for spammming....try pulling your broadcom card from your XPS1530 and pop it in your macbook. It supports B, G, N, and is natively supported in OSX.....I think its a BCM4320.

  • P.S. Half the fun for me was making OSX work on a PC because they said it wouldnt. One custom DSDT plus hacks......golden. Even with updates. Send me a PM and Ill share the link I used for the DSDT.....or just google dsdt xps m1530. Balls to bones I am proud for you. Apple makes a sweet machine. Expensive as hell but sweet.

  • @Shakez76 I don't own the m1530 anymore. I actually did get it working on the m1530 before I started TWIL, a while back, but it wasn't 100%, and I think it broke on an update.

  • Ah man dont sweat it....When I got vanilla osx loaded up on my 1530 as I mentioned in your other video it was shiny and new I thought " Wow I might actually switch from linux." I am not worried in the least that you will switch because after a couple of weeks of OSXing it I duel booted. Now I rarely even use that machine. I have an old dv9000 that I baked the motherboard to fix. Running arch, kde 4.6. Once you go linux the freedom is impossible to walk away from.

  • Didn't realize there was anger in the comments, personally I'm not a huge apple fan but I want to change career and get a job in IT so I don't rule out at some point getting a Mac so that I can have experience of that OS, would probably do what you've done and install some other OS's via boot camp but nothing wrong with having a Mac.

  • A good IT uses the best tool for the job. The platform under it is irrelevant.

  • lol spending over a thousand dollars on a computer just to run a few programs seems a little crazy, well to me anyway

  • what do you mean "free"?

    3:23

    i dont understand

  • @zaafarj free meaning it comes with the OS, but it's not really a "free" app, because if you didn't get it with the hardware, it's $15 for garage Band, or $50 for iLife.

  • lol is the name of your network in any way relating to the candide story?

  • @jeff30458 it is indeed related to the Candide story. :P one of my favorite books of all time.

  • Nothing wrong with running MacOSX - i've been using it for years, while also running Linux. Sometimes you just can't beat the odd piece of software made for Apple's platform.

  • How did you resist installing ArchLinux? FYI i'm running an older dual core MBP on it with Gnome 3... It's a lot smoother than Ubuntu.

Did you get that iSight camera to work?

  • Id actually love to see what Garage band is capable of.

If you learn it, put up some tutorials!

P.S. Finish up the SSH tutorials.

  • I've been using Linux almost exclusively since 1996. I was president of my local LUG for over ten years. So I'm a Linux convert. But if you want to buy a Mac to do some work or experimenting, your choice. Screw the haters. It's your money and your life. Do what you want.

  • Use what works for you man. Its an OS not a religion. That said, if you invested the money you spent on the make on some thing like Kdenlive it might be what you want faster.. Either way, enjoy what you have. Its a nice piece of hardware.

  • There needs to be a TWILbits channel....

and how can you make more than one YT account? with one email? or is possible?

  • @Justgoodvids more than one email account. one per channel.

  • there was an article you were supposed to read... too late...

  • I have to ask, though: why the Mac? Build quality?

  • @sheps999 build quality and choice of OS/apps

  • ya man, do the live streams

  • Nice job. I have a mac coming in the mail, and seeing that I am a bit of an ubuntu fanboy, I will install Ubuntu. Probably 10.10 because it is a PowerPC Macintosh. But I think you did a good job. You did the exact opposite of being a traitor. You showed that Ubuntu IS universal. Congrats. I run Windows XP and Ubuntu on my netbook and purely Ubuntu on the desktop. Nice videos as always

  • TRAITOR! just kidding. Do what you want. You only live once. If you wanna be an Apple fan boy, I'll still watch your Linux videos. 8p I dual boot with Windows 7 for the programs, games, and hardware I want to use, so don't feel bad.

    P.S. Unity sucks!

  • How do you like MacbookPro hardware? battery-life? Is it good on Ubuntu?... I love the battery-indicator on the side.

  • @renegade8164 haven't had it unplugged much while in Ubuntu. I'll try to run it down in Ubuntu and see how long it takes.

  • frankly, I dislike Macs (for the price only, I admit they ARE built well,) and I am by no means gonna bash you on your choice, no, I am actually congratulating you for having the guts to buy a mac at the price they are. and furthermore for installing Ubuntu Linux on it, great job man, and great vid.

  • That's so cool!

  • Jordan, this may make you cringe, but for a while I had ubuntu installed on my macbook 4,1 by making a bootcamp partition, installing xp, then install wubi. In retrospect I have no idea why I set up my partitions this way because by then I already had lots of experience doing linux partitioning for dual boots on my other machines. I guess a guided partitioner and installer were more appealing to my lazy self than actually doing a native install and partitioning the drive.

  • @r0dnify that's a bit awkward, but if it works for you... :P

  • Your download speed is slow.

  • @Hermetiqa thank the broadcom for that. I've got 20mbps download, so I normally download at least 1-2 megabytes/sec.

  • people that only use on os are idiots if you are a geek geek like to test

  • I'm a former Mac OS X user, now a Debian Linux user on a PowerBook G4.

  • The perfect computer for me: a Macintosh (hardware) and the three OSes (Windows, Mac OS X and GNU/Linux)

  • Dude the mutitouch is badass! I'd get a Macbook just for that! :)

  • Gnome 3 > Unity

Canonical/Ubuntu needs to make some MASSIVE changes to Unity or act like grown men/women, admit that straying from gnome3 was wrong, and switch.

Also, Marks comments that its okay that Unity sucked just because this isn't an LTS release is unacceptable and unprofessional. All of the releases should be polished or why bother having it an official. If you want to test something, there are ppa(s) for that...

  • It's funny to see all the mac fanboys get a lot of thumbs up on their comments, and calling Macs beautiful machines. Yes, it's beautiful that they're made in the same plants and sweatshops that all the other computers are manufactured. Yes, it's beautiful that they use an inefficient Unibody design. Yes, it's beautiful that you have to pay a few hundred dollars extra (in this case) to do more or less the same things as a regular computer. Yes, it's beautiful that they're all exactly the same.

  • BLENDER!!! ME LOVES!!!

Just an fyi, bucky roberts (thenewboston) is planning to do Blender tutorials in the very near future.

  • @TWILisawesome I'm excited for that too. I don't understand anything about blender :D

  • Any tutorial/guide on how to get wireless to work...?

  • @QueeeeenZ if you look at the MacBookPro8-1/Natty page on the Ubuntu Wiki, there are links to the Ubuntu forum posts on how to get it working.

  • Personally I consider some of the hatred understandable but silly. My guess is that iT comes from people who either fear a less linux intensive channel, or personally dislike the closed nature of modern Apple products.

Personally I would have tried to make a hackintosh, but I completely see why you made the decision you did.

  • Comment removed

  • Why did you install Ubuntu? I think OS X is a better OS with much better apps available. Check out the featured/popular apps in the Mac App Store, Try to stay away from cross-platform opensoruce apps like GIMP, They are usually rubbish on OS X.

  • You should be free to try whatever you wish to try without being harranged.

  • i really love linux and i would always try to use linux to do things that may not be as easy to do on another OS i think the next laptop that i buy will be a mac simply because they are beautiful machines and i would finally have access and gain experience!! good buy i think

  • @murtagh232 thank you. :) I was thinking exactly the same thing.

  • run damn small linux on it^^ that would be fast like a rocket >.<

  • We were always okay.

  • @leodamascus oh, we're more than ok... :)

  • Ok look, i love Linux so much and it's my main OS so far. But if i were you and laid my hands on a Mac machine, i would definitely use it as my main OS.

  • i never thaught in my life time ill ever see him on a mac but with ubuntu is ubber cool :D

  • A live stream would be great. I'd try to make it, but I got two jobs and blah blah blah. Still give it a shot.

  • hey jordan, try mint 11 on there..... it will definitely work better and smoother.

  • Whats better aqua or unity?

  • @NDSCollector errm... they're kinda similar. Aqua is very smooth, very consistent, across all applications (at least all the ones I've tried).

Unity, however, is still very young, and is (even a little bit) customizable, which is a big plus for me.

  • How is the HFS+ support in that verson of Ubuntu?

  • @dkbe1983 according to the Ubuntu wiki page: HFS is mounted as Read-Only. By turning journaling off, an HFS+ file system will mount in Read-Write mode.

  • @TWILTalks Ahh same as before then. That's how I fixed the issue on my Macbook Pro with Debian and OSX.

  • A live stream would really help users understand your opinions of certain areas like unity, arch etc. Also you could help people if they need your help via stream.

  • live streams would be great

  • I'm in the same boat with you!
