i think honestly nobody had time to deal with this at the moment because the govt was caught up in the million of lives lost in other areas. besides, it wouldn't make sense that suing a construction company should have anything to do with govt. i think the govt was just tired of foreign reporters showing up everywhere trying to bash china during those times when it was actually having a lot of internal problems. but my condolences to all the parents and relatives of those kids.

Parent who suffer child loss deserve an answer, someone or any one connected to this, must put into jail. Otherwise, there's no justice. The resilience of those parents is amazing.

The Sichuan earthquake laid bare (as all disasters do) some fundamental problems in China, corruption of high officials being only one of them.

This has also consequences for China's one child policy.

These parents invested everything in their child. Now they have lost that.

The problem with is that due to the one child policy these parents have no second child to fall back on. With a pension system still underdeveloped in China these parents will fall on hard times when they get old, although adoption of another child might mitigate the problem somewhat.

My guess is that the one child policy will be less strictly enforced in Sichuan Province for the coming years.

What do you mean? Bribes are of value in an economy? C'mon, I can't say for sure that the building was built shabbily, I agree on that score, but the families of the dead children do think it was built shabbily. Why would one building in the entire area collapse so completely while the others stay erect? I think it looks like the building was built poorly. Often in schools the kids get the poorest quality things, look at the food in school for instance, the hamburger is of the lowest quality.

And do you know tens of thousands of other buildings in that area collapsed in the earthequake including some neighbouring that middle school?

From the video you don't get these infos, do you? It is true that some other buildings neighbouring this school didn't collapse (although damaged), but they are mostly apartment buildings which have no large-span rooms like classrooms. That is a very possible reason for the easier-collapse of school buildings. What we should focus on is 1. find the truth, is there indeed bribes involved in building the school? 2. to have a tougher quality-standard for school buildings in the future;

It is understandable for the parents to blame the school without solid evidence, but the journalist shall tell the truth, but not biased report, this video didn't even dare to show a whole-view picture of the middle school, with which you can have a better idea of this event (some buildings neighbouring it collapsed as well). I am amazed that the journalist went there by himself and should know the truth and still gave this biased report

It's very sad for parents to lose their young children, especially in China now, as many parents only have one child. For sure the government should conduct a thorough investigation on the building quality issue, however, after that, the parents should move on since the loved ones will never come back. The government should provide assistances to the parents for them to have new children. I hope they can find peace after new children are born.

I would like to know whether there is a connection between the size of chinese classes contributed to higher occurence of collapse. Chinese classes usually contain around 60 pupils and a school contains 4-6 years as I recall. Alot of people/ weight in those buildings
