The cooling system doesn't work as you described it.
The cooling towers are used to cool the water used to condensate de steam after its exit from the steam turbine. And the steam used to run the turbine is generated in a steam generator, which is a heat exchanger between heavy water from the reactor and regular water.
There are usually 2 or 3 different stages of heat exchanging before the steam enters the turbine.
@cortexedge Thanks. I'm going to re-record this video and expand the explanations some, and make some corrections. Still, it's not intended to be an actual blueprint or schematic, just a 10 minute intro to the main concepts. Thanks for the feedback, though - it will be useful.
Can you talk a little about nuclear fusion if you haven't done so already in one of your other lectures? What is your opinion on cold fusion? Look at all the videos that people have reproduced cold fusion experiments and are producing neutron radiation. Hoax? Or are they on to something?
very informative, now i know what actually happens inside. i thought it was all super physics and special technology that absorbed the radiation and turned it into Electricity like solar cells. i cant believe that a few grams can power a reactor,i hope theres enough to go around lol.
Wrong explanation.

@derekowens You're welcome. More information you can find on wikipedia by searching "nuclear reactor", "nuclear fission" or "nuclear technology".
