  • Ha..Im asian and my brother and I dominate our school's football team.

  • people say asain r to short thats jacked up i am asain

  • @TheMarines456 are you short??

  • first ever Vietnamese football player....

  • @AZND3V1L4 i know him!

  • 3:06

    Nut check.

  • lol 3:20 "watch for the why out naa!!"

  • Is Dat still playing football or is he retired?

  • @KissMyAhhh44 retired in 06 after a neck injury

  • @KissMyAhhh44 sadly he retired. its unfortunate he could potentially have been a ring of honor member.

  • @KissMyAhhh44 he retired living in texas

  • i'm from VN and i really love AMFB, but VietNam was not any AMFB game.._ __!!..love Dat Nguyen

  • i got the same last name!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @DaPwners and so does the other 85% of the vietnamese populations lol

  • Comment removed

  • @kingofpho75 i did lol

  • Dat is and always will be a favorite player of mine. He and Woody were the only great players on that team during their bad years in the late 90's and early 00's. I remember him getting hurt on the game-saving play against the 49ers.

Nguyen was pure class, and I'm happy to see him turning into another Ken Norton-esque college coach. I don't think it's a coincidence that A&M's defense has skyrocketed since Dat helping out. :D

  • Makes me proud to share the same last name and play Football =D, my coaches call me Dat. but i play Cornerback.

  • I've seen a few DallasNguyen jersys in the vietnamese coffee shops out in Cali on Sundays

  • the asian london fletcher

  • one of the best linebackers of all time

  • he does not look 5'10 at all

  • @KingofPho75 do u mean he looks shorter or taller??

  • @saywattony he looks taller

  • @KingofPho75

meant him once when he played for A&M and got his autograph...

he seems taller in person too... i felt like he was just as tall if not taller than me (and im 6'2)

  • @slwdsm really wished i met him

  • wow.. that shovel call.. wow like.

  • Small linebacker with the biggest heart. So much respect towards him for being the only Vietnamese football player to ever be in the NFL.

  • Many running backs and quarterbacks are bigger than him and still he played really well for his size. He has the techniques, mental toughness, and skills to be one of the greatest linebackers, but his size limited him a little. Because of that I think he will be a good linebacker coach. He can share his tallent to young players who have the height and size.

  • the man called the play before it happended ....DAMN

  • Aggies everywhere will always remember Dat

  • Dat Nguyen is a BEAST

  • i wonder how long it will take for another viet to make it in the nfl or even a division 1 college i cant wait till that happen

  • he went to my school witch is rockport tx

  • As far as those who hate or denigrate him, I got one word for you, or maybe two:

    ignorance +

    racism

  • Dat Nguyen - a standup, humble, smart, hard-working and fun-loving player who should be a model for all other NFL players to follow. This guy is not what many NFL'ers are today. Sad to see him stop playing for a few years now but happy to hear he's back with TAMU program.

  • dude was cold as hell..i think he led the cowboys in tackles for some years during his career..dude could ball..straight up..

its too bad he had to play for the cowboys..

  • he was a great player that made the game fun to watch. Like someone said, he should've played in the pro bowl.

Does anyone know who's being interviewed at the end?

  • Whats the "Lombardi" award?

  • Comment removed

  • @losaryn the Lombardi award is given to the best college lineman or linebacker.

He was also the winner of the Bednarik award, and the first runner up for the Butkus award (to Chris Claiborne, by 2 votes, iirc).

  • Thanks for the video mate! Dat was an awesome player one of my all-time favourite.

Nguyen and Dexter Coakley was the undersized dynamic duo. He should have been a Pro Bowler at least twice.. Love the guy.. Thanks for the memories!!

  • Argh too bad the cowgirls picked him up

  • i swear why is there 1 dislike it should be like an is mess up cuz yall hating on so stop the racism

  • i'm korean and i played outside LB for my high school and the boys used to call me Dat Nguyen.... i took it as a compliment even tho he is Viet.

  • @Ukim1185 tru "dat", represent the asians!

  • Dat is the definition of a football player. The dude is tough and has a high football IQ. Good to see he's putting that talent to good use as a LB coach for the Cowboys now.

  • Dat Nguyen is one of my heros. Not because he was a great football player, which he was, but because he didnt let anything stop him from reaching his dreams. It goes to show if you work hard enough you can do anything.

  • @bbbbbbbbbill okej

  • I do not understand that he has been playing some matches with dallas , wasnt he drafted this year?

  • @osckar97 naw yo he retired this year

  • good vid... Dat was amazing, his ability read plays and to always be in the right place at the right time is just ridiculous.

hopefully that rubs off on the ags in '10

  • dude i play highschool wit dis cat in south texas. he was a haas. south texas football is underated. my teammate was fred wallace. we graduated the same year as ladmain tomlinson and fred finished first in the all state pole. district 31-4a in texas is overlooked

  • Dat is the man, and a great role model. Wish he didnt retire so soon.

  • Hes back in aggieland as the inside LB coach!

  • A&M suks

  • I wore # 59 when i played MLB in high school because i loved the hell out of this guy! He was a great role model for me. Not tall but always played harder than anyone else on the field. If he could have had a longer career he definately would have gone down as one of the greatest of all time

  • dat, doing it for the asian in the league

  • Who Dat?

  • If you played football in Texas and are over the age of 15 you should know the name Dat Nguyen...seriously.

  • respect to him!... i'll never be like him though.

  • hell yeaaaa!, metallica !

  • Im goin to be the 2nd football player Vietnamese!

  • @SurpremeCoolness619 mhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmm

  • ur a dumbass that cant spell

  • lol, what's with you and getting out of everywhere?

  • 1. lrn2english

    2. 3rd rounders can't be busts

    3. lrn2rap

    4. AP All-pro= bust?????

  • That doesn't even flow. I like how you ignored all my points.

  • WHAT POINTS!!?? You have no point, ya bust, stupid! Damn it I just popped my shoulder out, back to I.R

  • i am another viet football player lol, at first my coach tried to stick me on lineback because (dat nguyen), but i was too good of a reciver =P

  • aw...i wanted to see a vietnamese player to be in the hall of hame :(

  • haha my coach calls me dat nguyen cus im vietnamese and im RAW. so this is who he is. hes RAW too! lol

  • You play football and not know who Dat Nguyen is. Please....

  • @tvbmovielover Lol, but seriously i never heard of him. But he was linebacker and I'm a D Lineman so sort of a difference..

  • I'm a wide receiver for my high school team, and yet I've known of him since I was in grade 4.

  • why did he retire so early?

  • neck injury

  • ohhh, that sucks

  • He might not be big..the the size of his heart made up for it. Very skilled player...too bad i didn't get into football till like 2007...1 year after he retired. :(

  • dat ngyuen was a hell of a football player sucks he retired so early

  • This dude was sick on the field...I miss drafting him on madden :(

  • dang i didnt know this guy was viet,i remember seeing his name in Madden a couple of times, but never care to think that he was asian, now that i know its kinda awe inspiring to know that a person like him who everyone thinks is a joke could have this much impact in the NFL and not just on any NFL team,i mean the COWBOYS,a team that used to be dubbed Americas Team

  • i just hope that Haruki Nakamura of the Baltimore Ravens will have a great career in the NFL,but i think it might take him a much longer time cause he has NFLs BEST Safety in Ed Reed playing the same position, but still all i have to say is WOW

  • use to be America's team? Still is.

  • but the Cowboys arent as big as they used to be, popular wise, i dont know if im saying this right but u know wat i mean, like back then everyone LOVED the Cowboys but now its kinda like eh they are just another team in the NFL

  • check out 8th grade MLB Andrew Hudson

  • Damn i loved watching him play. I liked him better than Ray, Zach, Urlacher, any other MLBs! He was a beast

  • Dat is the Best Player ever to step on the field!!

  • Wrong

  • lol guy at 1:05 trys to power through dat nguyen and dat nguyen is like "nope. not today" lol

  • Dang, one of the few full asians that have played in the NFl...he inspires me lol

  • Was there another full asian to play?

  • Nguyen was a tough player...whoever saying shits like hes weak and shit obviously haven't kept with the Cowboys...the man is definately up there

  • most underrated linebacker ever. and im not even a dallas fan.

  • @Popeyes00 I hate the Dallas Cowboys. But i never knew about Dat....Still hate the Cowboys though.

  • @Popeyes00 whatever doesnt kill him is gonna get him song

  • i tihnk he's still on the team, isn't he ?

  • hes an assistance linebacker coach

  • nope he injuired his neck and retired early and what the other dude said

  • Hes a coach

  • he got a neck injury so he was forced to retire in likee 2006, but they bought him back the next year to be a sideline coach and a assissant linebackker.

  • why because he got a pinch nerve in his neck u dumb fuk

  • i remember one time he accidently smashed heads with his teammate when blocking a guy and practically knocked the poor guy out cold. he's one tough dude. why was he forced to retire?

  • I remember when he was still playing i would watch every cowboys game just to see him play.

    Very smart player

  • I remember when he was with Dallas, he kept on making plays, he made a lot of big plays, he led the team in tackles every year in Dallas except for the one where he got injured, its just a damn shame he was forced to retired but I know I will always remember him and its too bad hes not with the team today since they are in SuperBowl caliber

  • Who was being interviewed? Sounds like Peyton Manning, but he says that he practiced with him, so it can't be Manning.

    Who is it?

  • hall of famer

  • imagine how good the defense of the Cowboys would be if Dat wasn't force to retire

  • he is my idon. the first american veit to play football

  • "idol"

  • i wish he was still playing, what he lacked in size he made up for it in heart one of ny favorite cowboys of all time

  • man the interview was racist

  • Too bad Nguyen was forced to retire after a neck injury that never healed properly. With his work ethic and passion for preparation, he would have been a top linebacker for years to come. Had he played 5 or so more years, there's no doubt in my mind he would have had a Hall of Fame-worthy career.

Here's hoping another AA football player will step up and represent!

  • never mind he did [=

  • did he play for the cowboys..? I GO FOR THEMMMMM

    my dad told me.

  • Viet pride u bitches

  • dat nguyen is actually on the dallas coaching staff i believe coaching up the defensive line

im asian too i luv football play it and all that

but i believe we need more ppl out there like asians and stuff

football is a big passion of mine and i admire dat's STYLE OF PLAY

not becuz he's asian or anything

  • na, hes a linebackers coach right now

  • yeah i play football and im asian too. we need to put down the badminton raquets are represent!

  • yea he the linebacker coach..i wish we had a asian db playin though..i played as db in highschool

i remember dat havin a 92 rating on madden 05 lol

  • yep. me too. those badminton raquets and those damn ping pong paddles.

  • dude, my cousin in dat nguyen

    no lie.

  • Dat Nguyen is BEAST!!! and Very Very Underrated!

  • Dat is a beastly asian

  • thats mah viet boy right there ........im playing footbal too and im viet

  • Who is Dat Nguyen? And I play football but im canadien and i play right guard

  • People like Dat, makes us proud to be Vietnamese. And what's the name of the first song?

  • My favorite player ever Dat Nguyen because he was vietnamese like me, and now thats why i really like the dallas cowboys even though he isn't there anymore, when he used to play and the cowoys were on defense i just watched him every play

  • right on bro

  • lol wat grade are u in, im playing football 2 and im asian lets see whos the 3rd asian btw theres another asian person playing for the bears

  • dude hes an icon to me, first viet in the league , thats why i started playin football, to be the second viet, i just broke my ankle in april during spring football, and that pissed me off because im out for the whole season u know, theirs always next season to shine

  • this guy is an icon to me due to the fact he was the first Vietnamese American in the NFL. he added diversity to the game and not to mention this guy is a serious bruiser. it really sucks that he retired from serious injuries to the neck and shoulder. still this guy is hall of fame material.

  • This dude was a fucking warrior....I heard he broke some white dude's neck just for looking at him funny.....BAD ASS!

  • dude i think thats my uncle..

  • yeah right lol i've used that one before just because i'm vietnamese and i like the cowboys

  • Representing the Viets!!

  • I really miss this dude. he was really good.

  • key play

  • i think he owns a restruraunt in texas

  • i think he owns a restruraunt in texas

  • that guy is my friend tony quoc nguyen's uncle

  • my friend's teacher from his old school is the cousin of this guy

  • My brother used to bag groceries for Howie and Chris Long. We didn't really KNOW them, but we knew of each other. Also, we know some of Chuck Yeager's old friends, and we own what we believe is one of Chuck's old fighter jackets. BTW, it's pronounced NoyEN, right?

  • My dad used to sell cable to Howie Long and they all go to a school that was our school's enemy.

  • what, St. Anne's Belfield? Or are you talking about Howie?

  • Yeah St. Anne's. I've met Howie and Chris.

  • anybody no were to buy his jersey even though its like a couple years old

  • anybody no were to buy his jersey even though its like a couple years old

  • A damn shame he's gone. I'm glad he came back as a coach, though.

  • First off, her name is Becky, and the girls are Aubrey and Remi, and Becky is not some "dumb redneck". She happens to be a real cool person. So before you decide to talk smack, get your shit right!

  • shovel shovel

    1 word

    AMAZING

  • lol i duno about asains taking over football, i m a asain middle linebacker too, but it will take another couple generations for asains to take over football

  • dude me and my bro were both linebackers and running back(were asian) even though he passed on football for med school im only a fresh in highschool and ya 40 tackles and 1036 yards..ya i suck

  • Dat Nguyen is from my hometown. He's a good boy.

Don't yall say bad about him yall hear.

  • wow he is a very good linebacker, there's also another oriental Filipino playing in the NFL named Eugene Amano. He plays center for the Titans.

  • He's Asian, Vietnamese to be exact.

  • no shit!

  • he is good for being oreantal? haha, wow you are a true redneck!

  • COO! LOL that play where he picks up the interception and then goes to the ground i thought he fell down by himself. But then, i figure that's a smart play because they get the ball back after and don't risk anything....NOT BADDDDD

  • man if he played now with dem 'Boys they would be 12-0 nd pats woud be 11-1

  • man he was awesome. I wonder what he woulda been like with the 'Boys today.

  • I think the fact that he was able to play middle linebacker at a high level in the NFL is amazing considering how small he was as far as linebackers go. Even Ray Lewis isn't considered to be a big linebacker, but he's still 6 feet + and weighs about 230. Nguyen played at about 5'10" and 220.

  • Yep...but THAT, is just a STAT, for DAT.

  • No kidding, Dat was awesome. Pure heart, the true epitome of Bob Lilly's favorite quote: "It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog."

  • i used to play wide reciever for my team
