2 years ( or more ) later I see again these two videos and the situation seems not so agressive as the first time...However some faces made mby Jones seem to me, still, to be a bit astonioshed at Rysanek's frontal objections. A person told me Miss Jones is quite competitive and maybe Rysanek took revenge. I really do not know. 2 years ago it was a battle. Now, the same video...And it does not. Human perceptions are so variable...
@hardtimesincountry Oh, don't get me wrong. His sound is glorious! I heard him some years ago in Leipzig and he filled the theater with the most beautiful sound you could imagine!
@hardtimesincountry he had something with the German U vowel: waroom instead of warum. However when he sang Amfortas in concert in 1993 in Herkulessaal in Munich it was magnificent a glorious sound and very powerful. He walked down the stairs from the rear to the front of the stage and looked like a Zulu King with his majestic height and elegant persona. His Holländer was also something I will never forget in 1997.
LR say that Elektra needs her brother as in Greek mythology it´s always the man who kills and that she doesn´t love him as she doesn´t even know him
GJ replies that she does love her brother and that you feel it in the music when she sees him
LR doesn´t agree, but says that life would be boring if we all agreed.
They obviously have different readings of that relationship between Elektra and her brother, but it´s rather dramatic to say that either is being prima donnaish about it.
without looking at comments first ... I must admit I was a bit surpsised at how contradicting (etc) Rysanek was towards Jones ... then I read the comments and I tatally agree with "Greatfan" s response saying : "Basically Rysanek makes ..."
rysanek , answering in a scornful and agressive way ??? Please !!!! they were not even having a quarrel. Rysanek does NOT need to underestimate Jones to feel better.
I do understand though that they are referring to Mythologie. Elektra as a dramatic character comes from the great Tragedy Elektra by Sophocles. It is not like talking about Zeus and Hercules, this is something entirely different. You cant reffer to Mythologie when talking about Elektra
It is incredible this quarrel between the two ladies ! I mean, Rysanek seems obsessed in minimizing Jones' approaches !!! Many of Rysanek opinions are simply too sophisticated. I agree with Jones in Elektra's love to Orest, the music says it. What kind of feeling made Rysanek so hostile to her colleague ? I do not like the way she is waiting for Jones' slightest nuance and jump to the opposite.
Basically Rysanek makes too many objections. It starts when Jones says that it is difficult to rehearse without piano and LR says it is PERFECT for her. Jones says that Chrysothemis is a victim and LR says in a very scornful way that she does not agree and gives a lecture on Greek habits. LR says she has sung ALL THREE roles and Jones, a bit angry remarks " Yes but Elektra ypou sang for a movie " I do not understand why LR is so agressive, underestimating Jones.
ty for translating... althoug I love Leonie perhaps her rehearsing without piano was the reason of her countless off-tunes?? She is right though when she implies that u cant consider a role as DONE unless u sing it on stage.

I never understood what Estes does with his 'u' vowels. They always sound like 'ü' to me. Strange

@Prickler32 They sound like 'ü' to me too - I have to admit I find it rather annoying. But he is a very fine singer.
