  • exept the quality because its an old game, great video !! +1

  • It's the kind of ending where you see yourself as the lead pilot, back on Earth and looking up at the stars. A time of reflection to understand what it is that happened to you from beginning to end, and to realize that while the Shivans are "The Great Destroyers", your own race came dangerously close to taking the title.

You also know that they can and will come back, but for the time being you are free from that...your liberation from "The Great War". A chance to be at peace and savor victory.

  • @GradiusicCyber

    For your entire life, right?

Yeah I imagine a slight smile after looking up and thinking it all over, peaceful life time.

  • In FS1 capital ships doesn't have beam turrets? Which are the main differences of the weapons of both games?

  • the Shivan war LEAPED the humanity and the vasudain tech forward

    shields, guns, ship design

they did even have fight based jump drives till near the end

  • The beam turrets.

  • @chuchofreeman In FS 1, the main batter was between the Terrans and the Vasudans who were both technologically in the same ball field as each other. When the Shivans came, it threw everyone outta the loop. Therefore, technological advances were needed to kill the Shivans because in the first incursions into Terran and Vasudan space, the Shivans were almost invincible because the ML-16 laser and the Disruptor cannon weren't enough to pierce the fighters' shields.

  • Classic, epic game. Music and voice acting was amazing and really added to the game. I think BSG (new series) must have been inspired somehow by that game, many similarities, even the uniforms.

  • BSG is a remake of the Classic BSG from 1978, but they may have gotten Ideas for the remake from this game.

  • So much for the "invincible Shivan battleship" :P.

  • hey , am I seeing stuff or their is 2 vasudan ships?

I mean where are those 2 vasudans going to live?

+ why dont the moon have buldings? their should be at least one human living there!

  • Cause the moon doesn't have the supplies needed to support life. Why would they need buildings anyway. I mean, who want's to live on a bleak, lifeless rock? But no, you are not just seeing stuff, there are 2 vasudan ships in there.

  • It's strange that no vasudan ships took part in the battle in subspace against the Lucifer. What's even stranger is that no shivan capital ships in Freespace 2 had shields, not even the enormous Sathanas class.

  • i always asumed that the lucifer was a prototype. also if the shivan fleets don't have much contatct with each other thier technology may be different between groups. this could also explain why only the lucifer had beam weapons in FS1

  • Bit of a late reply I know, but there were four Thoths in amongst the 16 ships that come with you. The final Taskforce that destroys the Lucifer includes;

4 Hercs (in this video, Alpha), 4 Ulys (Beta), 4 Ursa (Delta) and 4 Thoths (Gamma).

  • i will!

    LOL

  • Those 2 Thoths you saw were there to assist the Ursa Bombers in their mission to destroy the Lucifer's reactors.

  • You have to admit that this is one of the best game soundtracks I have ever heard. It still moves me...

  • It is, Perfect for the endless mysteries of space...

  • He is right the shivans are the great preservers. without the shivans the terrans and vasudans would have wiped each other out in the T-V war but the shivans came and taught the 2 races to work together.

  • Actually, if the Shivans hadnt intervened, the Terrans would have wiped the Vasudans out. It was only a matter of time. Remember how badly they were doing before (and during) the great War?

  • That is true because from several battles of the T-V war the terrans proved that they are infact superior in their military power.

  • Maybe the Shivans are like The Shadows from B5

  • true, true.

  • Lol am I seeing things or did two vasudans get stranded there too?

  • Nah, you aren't seeing things, Vasudans got stranded In the Solar system as well... I wonder where they're going to stay... *thinks*

  • Anyone notice that on Mass Effect the storys an iccle bit the same with regards to a great destroyer? lol. N the fact the "Reavers" aka the "Shivans" cant use shields or somthing in mass effect jumps lol.

  • I loved the Lucifer Juggernauts and the Sathanas plus the colossus and bastion but they are all gone now lucifer clearly destroyed, Juggernauts disappeared Sathanas, both destroyed, colossus destroyed by Juggernaut and bastion used as a jump blocker( It was blown up to do it ).

  • A lucifer isn't a Juggernaut, it's a SuperDestroyer.

  • but at first i thought i hadnt doen it. when i first saw the Lucifer come out of the portal, kind of exploding but still in one pieace i was like. SHIT! i damaged it but didnt kill it. poor earth :( but then it exploded. and i was like. YES

  • haha do u have any idea how happy i was when i kicked the lucifer's ass? then i realized... they said they didnt know how many lucifer class destroyers there were. and now theres probably more haha

  • Haha the Lucifer got owned... No ship can last forever though...not even the Colossus

  • That was shown later on in Freespace 2, but then again, they friggen parked it in front of the damn Sathanas! How stupid could you get?

  • man, this brings back memories. I can play freespace over & over but I can never bring back the feelings from the first time i finished this beautiful game. who's with me?

  • Me - The feelgin you get when you take that Shivan SD down is fantastic - then you feel bad for all the humans stuck on Earth....

  • oh god yah. theres no way to replicate that one feeling. like. your just. in AWE. you like. YES! omg YES. i fucken killed the LUCIFER! and that feeling is never quite the same again

  • wow i never knew how kickass of an ending freespace 1 had. really meshes in well with FS2's intro.

  • This was a great ending and somewhat unexpected but began a great saga that I feel needs to be concluded and I'm sure volition is beginning to agree.

  • There was a sequel.

  • Make's me wonder what the surviving Vasudans that got out of Subspace did, seeing as "all the jump points from Earth are gone". Would they have settled on Earth, or gone on one last final quest?

  • did any of you guys actulayy get to play this online?im sure it would've been awesome

  • I did, it was an amazing experience, Human opponents much harder to beat than Comp. T.T I miss is alot

  • Does anyone know what happens if you dont destroy the 5 reactors in time?

Does the mission restart, or is there anouther movie?

  • the go to debriefing and then it tells you to restart

  • I was disappointed. I plan to petition the FS-Port Team to make a cutscene for if you fail

  • at 00:25 it look like the lucifer have eye

  • Wonder if the Lucifer was some kind of prototype wtfpwn ship the shivans made, because the Sathanas wasn't invinsible like the Luci... Anyway, the Lucifer is properly the most evil ship in gaming history.

  • the shivans have always been eclectic and esoteric. Some evidence evn points towards the sathanas not beig a warship, but rather a colony ship of some sort.. scary...

  • well, technology advanced a great deal in the passing 32 years. (most of that was done by copying shivan technology) if a lucifer would have showed up in the time of fs2, it would have had a nice battle even with Deimos class corvettes, not to even think about a modern destroyer, for example the hecate class. the colossus is out of the question. it would have vaporized the lucifer.

  • yah... im kinda saddened by that. the Lucifer was one KIKASS ship. i miss the FEAR that the lucifer put into me

  • Well, I think the Sathanas Class is a pretty good replacement for that fear ;-)

  • @thedragon133 I disagree

The Lucifer was menacing because until the end, we KNEW it was indestructible, and we could not stop it. The Sathanas, while impressive, was something we could destroy, we knew we could, and we did for the first one. It didn't have the same menace and malevolence that the Lucifer had

  • I'm not sure the Lucifer would have been so easy to defeat. Even with better technology, her shields would still be impervious to any attack. It could be easily destroyed but in subspace only, and at the cost of collapsing another jump corridor.

As for a Deimos corvette, face to face to the Lucifer, I'm not sure it'd last longer than the Galatea, for the Lucifer's beams would shred it to pieces in no time.

  • Depends. If you use a FS1 Lucifer against a Deimos, Deimos would die in no time. But they weakened in it in FS2, they replaced the Super Lasers with Small Red Beams, making it just a heavy armored target rather than a menace.

  • do that

  • thats the Lucifer right?

    ...

you know what, if they dont make a freespace 3 someday

    I will.

  • the company that made the game went bankrupt

  • hahaha , ya right!

  • they need to make FreeSpace 3

  • company went bankrupt

  • how would have this video been if the bastion had intercepted the lucifer??

  • It couldn't, so stop thinking about the "what if?" scenarios.

  • Historic video... sniff...

  • stupid shivans! take that!
