IDK what it is but everytime I see a stock evo and stock sti go up against each other the evo takes it. I see a modded sti and modded evo the sti takes it. Prolly cause it's a lot lighter?

@iegemboy understeer refers to when the front tires lose traction in a turn, and the car "pushes" forward instead of maintaining the turn. Oversteer is the opposite, when the back end loses traction causes the car to turn too sharp.

@rizla420 i do not own an evo but i own a 97 eclipse gsx which is the next thing, however, i would probably have to say sti. i mean i love evo's and even though both cars are built for rally-style racing subaru took not only rally-style to the suspension and drivetrain and everything that helps cornering and acceleration but engineering a engine (the boxer-engine) that also has near perfect center of gravity. you gotta give them that one.

@kwill328 Wrong. The Evo has always had the better handling and up until the Evo 9 the STi was faster. 03-04 Evo was definitely slower. The 05 Evo was about the same speed and the Evo 9 was definitely faster.

haha, the new european 375hp Evo X barely beat the euro spec STi. Top Gear only tests the euro cars like in their test of the 2004 versions the STi was only a 2.0l. Take the regular american versions of the car with both being at around 300hp and it is an even match

Mustang yes, 'cause even with all these special versions of Mustangs, Saleen, Shelby, w/e. Prices are jacked up and it doesn't seem like it can keep up with the other American muscle, so I'd put that on the bottom of the American list. But Corvette's a good car, I think that's one of the only American cars I can appreciate, Corvette's never been a red neck car to begin with. I usually see retired elderly white people driving it, rednecks couldn't afford a Corvette.

My father is a mechanic and he claims that Subaru's are much more reliable mechanically than Mitsubishi's...especially when it comes to the higher grade models such as the Evolutions and STI's. When it comes to visuals everyone has there own opinion. When it comes to general speed I think it really depends on the modifications done to the vehicle. And when it comes to racing on a track, like the driver said above, it really depends on the track.

My uncle owns an sti and he spends 5 minutes setting up the computer systems in the car every time he wants to drive it otherwise he only gets about 25mpg on the road. It doesn't remember the previous settings. It is a petroholic if your not careful. I do agree though that subaru's are very reliable. Boxer engines have revolutionised the motor world especially the diesel boxer

EVO is faster in most regards, better handling, easier to get power out of. The new EVO does out perform the new STI. This is not an opinion, it's a fact backed up by results from various tests. However, I'm not saying the STI is complete shit...To be honest, the EVO and the STI are both great cars in general...a lot better than the average corolla, civic, etc.

no its a fact.... subarus are under when it comes to horsepower.... but general handling and gear outputs are where the subaru will murder the evo in races... also the internal technology used in a subaru wayyy surpasses that of an evo... the symmetrical awd and the boxer engine make the subaru a more fitting and rugged vehicle for rallying and being on the road.... everybody can drive a subaru but its harder to handle an evo... speed iz not everything

i disagree with everything you just said for a multitude of reasons

one of them being the evo vs sti thread on nasioc (the largest subaru community site) were they all admit that evo's are superior to sti's

racing is about being able to out drive the other guy, evos make power for dirt cheap and in all test's have been better then sti's by fractions of a second. the sti takes so much more time and money to make fast, hell to change the spark plugs you have to drop the engine.
