  • continue the campaign on earth preservation..let's act now.it is now or never! good campaign tool..

  • That's the dilemma we are facing.

  • This was very cool

  • This was a really well done video!

  • i don't see other countries growing there own food. they hate us in the U.S. but want us to feed them. i say fuck them, let them die.

  • About 20 nukes should take care of this problem.

  • to fast to really take in music sucks flashy sales pitch not good

  • Having one less child can reduce your impact by 20 times! See "One planet, One Child" or "Overconsumpulation" for more on this topic.

  • Nice flash and dash, but the same old, obvious ignorance of the elephant in the room -- one of the most important answers is bringing our populations to sustainable levels, not trying to eke out untenable levels of foods from the land....the most important group at the table isn't mentioned -- family planners!

  • I grow my own with gray water from my house and a drip irrigation system. 1/4 acre yard produces about 70% of the fruits and vegetables I consume in a year.

  • great work! what program was used to create this?

  • @hillarykino Thank you! It was done using Adobe After Effects.

  • Why is there no mention of the biggest factor of all?

    Population!!!!

The elephant in the room is killing the planet.

Time to get our heads out of the sand.

  • The least we can do is consider birth control as a critical world policy option. Humans must learn to control their population and quickly or they WILL DESTROY THE PLANET AS WE KNOW IT!!

Ian McHarg used to give a stump speech which began:

"Consider yourself a sentient being approaching the Earth"

    and ended with the question:

"Is Mankind but a planetary disease?"

  • This video is amazing!

I was wondering what music you used for this?

super awesome presentation, so effective and amazing.

  • @lucemorris1 The music used is just stock music that can be purchased for video production. I'm glad you liked the video--thanks!

  • 1. Support the proliferation of small farms and their integration with the latest eco-tech know-how. This will yield healthy food in greater abundance, closer to where its needed most, with fewer inputs than big agribusiness.

2: scale down the failed reductionist model of industrial, trade-based, subsidized, massive scale, mono-culture agriculture that is driving the 6th mass species extinction on the planet and driving farmers off the land in droves to live in vast wretched urban slums.

  • well, like it or not 90% of the human population must be exterminated for the planet to be able to recover. Try having a conversation/collaboration about that. But , yes, I agree with the video.

  • the starting-point question of this video is misleading.

there is enough food for everyone in the world at this very moment - yet not everyone have access to it.

    the question is WHY?

money has become 'resource' - without money you don't get to food. the planet's resources are here for all and are sufficient to say the least. WHY do we not make sure everyone have equal?

money as tool must be re-considered and re-defined to support LIFE

  • Great points in the video. I think it would be good to slow it down just a little bit to let the info sink in a little more.

  • Great video, guys! Was this produced by someone at the U or by an outside vendor? Nice work! And makes a great point, it obviously got a lot of folks thinking...

  • @peteymac1971 The video was produced internally by the Institute on the Environment at the U of M. Thanks for the compliments! And it is great to see so much discussion on this topic. Keep watching for some more "Big Question" videos to come!

  • I am happy to see a group with possible solutions engaged in this obvious threat to our future existence as a species. I recall from a class in Environmental Ethics that the agricultural demands and inabilities to meet those demands were the demise of many researched cultures and societies. I fear this time around the demise may befall the global community. There is certainly options, but I fear those in position to make a difference are side tracked with petty politics and geographic acquisitio

  • There is enough land for everyone and there is enough food,, It is greed mismanagment, pride and pomp, arrogance, envy and lies that has created the situation. get rid of the monetary system and all the bread heads and we can sort it out easilly, redistribution of land and resources. localize produce, dig out the alternative energy, stop chemtrails blocking out the sun, bring back the guilatine for the globalist elite and the greedy CEO's, destroy the multinational corporations. start again.

  • We us SO much water and land to plant GMO corn just to feed the hormone filled chickens, pigs and cows. If we stopped this factory farm practice we could stop poisoning so much of our water. We should go back to small local farming. It also cuts back on the average 1500 miles food is transported to get to your local store....but as usual big agri will win this battle because they have LOTS of money and subsidies.

    Great video and great message.

  • Perhaps a world war will solve this. Its not nice to think like that. But this video has forced it on me to think like that. I would'nt want it because I could die in it. I certainly would'nt fight in it. But that way Gov and Business could keep their power.

Other solution is to stop having children and adopt instead. And stop buying and wasting shit you don't need.

  • this is such bullshit... All this "green" crap.

We're trying to save the planet when we can't even save ourselves... Wake up people there are more important issues(debt, propaganda, loosing "rights").

Stupidity will be our downfall, not the avg. global temp. warming by 2 degrees.

  • Problem with this video and the solutions it shows is that none of them address the heart of the problem, population control.

Everyone on earth thinks they have a right to have as many kids as they want. But this selfishness has led to our problem and no one has tried to stop it with the exception of China.

    STOP HAVING KIDS!

We will be the one generation that either helps or destroys this world.

  • The carrying capacity for humans on Earth depends on the quality of life we want for us and nature. Resources are finite and we can not just keep increasing population with out consequences no matter how clever farming practices are! The earth receives constant and finite amount of energy every day from the sun and we can only use a tiny fraction of that to not interfere with already occurring natural processes.

  • I don't like how they try to push this global warming bullshit by farming too much, that's just plainly stupid and ridiculous. We already know it's a conspiracy.

The problem is in China, India, and Africa. America is setting the example of the world, fuck the other countries.

  • Once again they are trying to bring USA down by talking about inconsistent & imprecise bullshit solutions. How about world wide population control. Less food & more condoms for Africa. Free abortions for everyone. And 10% tax increase on family for every child. Problem Solved. You're Welcome.

  • @saper321 First of all African dont have alot of food. Second of they arent having orgys every waking minute. Third of Look at USA (I live in the USA) and see how many "Round" People there are. Do you think you should give Less FOOD to use Americans. I mean if you spent what one day in Africa you would probably wind up dead. Africa has much more countries than us and Africa makes up 10% population. North A. is 8% and Europe 12%. Now look at Asia makes 60% OF THE POPULATION.

  • too many facts on rapid population growth... we aren't sure if its even true... but i like the solution! we should do this anyways, regardless of whats true.

  • A good, concise introduction to this complex issue.

  • Take a chill pill. We don't need to "invest" in anything. In fact, what needs to be done is to get rid of the idea that people are here to be entertained by videos (just like this advertisement for 'action').

What we need is LESS action. Less sex, less marketing, less psychobabble, and just less of everything. The way to achieve that is to either let it destroy itself or put consumption taxes on everything. Decisions about the future are made at the cash register: nowhere else.

  • i am ready for some action ^^ any guys want to take the challenge?

  • We need population control. The Earth doesn't need 7 billion people. The human race as a whole doesn't need 7 billion people.

  • How about stemming our mindless population growth? Starting with India, China and the middle-East, say. The developed countries already have population under control. The developing nations are still producing people who will all live by higher standards by the time they're 20.

  • @geodesicks

An American consumes 50x more resources than a Nigerian and 5x more than an European.

By your line of thought we should start with US...

  • @IOIOIOIOIOIOIOIOIOIO i agree completely even though i am American. I mean when i walk around the streets you can see people all around with eating problems.

  • The thing is I dont agree with viewing the population issue like it 's simple math. It is far easier and realistic to educate in order to change behaviours than impose population control measures, which raises fundamental human rights issues.

  • Support genetically modified fruits and vegetables. Don't buy into the organic movement, as it can not support the current human population growth rate.

  • awesome... tnx for the upload... ^__^

i hope this vid would be an eye opener to the others...

  • Overpopulation is a lie of the banking elite. It's a lie they tell the sheeple. There are millions of acres of farm-able land not being used because the elite want to reduce population. Goo-gle Georgia Guidestones. Don't be a sheeple.

  • @crazy650c

i was wondering the same thing, i always see open land when i drive to far places

  • Why would the banking elite want to reduce the population? They aren't suffering the ill effects of over population as the poor are. In fact, overpopulation is GOOD for the banking elite because it ensures an overabundance of labor, which depresses wages.

  • Most what they say make sense but can we believe a writing on a stone by some unknown people regarding the carrying capacity of the Earth?

  • Yeah, it seems crazy to normal folks but these idiots actually believe it. They think they are destined to rule the world and because they have money they think that makes them superior to everybody else. They are evil....more than you can imagine. Most of them are pedophiles.

  • @crazy650c Where do you get this from. Yes there is alot of farmland, but when that farmland is used the abundance of water is reduced, and then many supplies are wasted like pestasides and other things used to secure the growth of a crop. The pestasides release gasses as do the plants. So every little things has is downside. Also instead of using the farmland people go to the forest and kill trees and life. We cannot recover lost species. Do you want to be alone in this world?

  • "the abundance of water is reduced"? Only in areas like So. California where it is pumped in. Much of that is wasted on golf courses and other toys for the rich. Ever been on an airplane? You can fly for miles and miles looking down on nothing but land....raw...unused land. The BLM has confiscated most of the land in the U.S. and is "saving" it. The U.S. ALONE could feed the entire world if the elite bankers would allow. Not everything has a downside. It is not a zero sum game.

  • Hey Crazy650c Not everything u read or see on Tv is real. Sure there is alot of farmland. But listen to this. Ever since we were made we though that everything belonged to us. Whoever called it first was the owner. That is true with land. Also think about all the lifeforms we would destroy. I've heard that you are heavily in to religion. Do you not respect lower lifeforms, that cannot fend for themselves. We would create and imbalance in ecosystems if we did this.

  • An airplane memphis, not an airplane on t.v., a real airplane. Ever fly? You insinuate my faith makes me blind...I say flat out your faith makes you blind. What faith you say? Your faith in your mother earth. You worship the creation rather than the creator. You say we will imbalance ecosystems if we plant crops and farm land to feed the world? You'd rather people die of famine than kill a grasshopper. You are one sick sob.

  • Of course not i meant kill a few animals for a big chunk of land maybe relocate them. Yes, i have been on an airplane many time but by night only. Everywhere i went there were out creations everywhere meaning cars and lights. I do see lots of land when im driving by. Im just saying that we out our on safety before anything else. I bet if you had a choice between you and the half of the world. You would be selfish. Am i right?

  • "I bet if you had a choice between you and the half of the world. You would be selfish. Am i right?" What ARE you talking about? It's hard to keep slowing down my brain that I can continue conversing on your level. Try thinking a little harder. Focus like a laser beam and maybe you can keep on topic for more than two sentences. Bottom line is there is plenty of land for food but the moneychangers and dictators want the population reduced. They create the famine, it serves their purpose.

  • You can farm on the deserts using salt water. And no, it's not impossible, even if that's what they said in school.

  • And where do we get salt water in the desert cheaply and without using too much energy (meaning avoiding long transportation etc)?

  • Artificial rivers is probably the best choice. I'm not claiming that it's not a lot of work, but it's feasible.

  • build a food facility on the moon

  • Yes but where are we gonna get the food and labor from? Think of the economical shift if we did this. Going to the moon isnt free. There is a great fee. If the tax payers pay for this you will see treason.

  • We need to deal with the problem of overpopulation instead of just looking at how we can provide or a larger population. I think this is the case because if we just continue to feed more people the cycle will not last.

  • JACQUES FRESCO

  • what about stop fucking and reproducing like rabbits.

  • It's about time we took overpopulation seriously. Oh this was promoting Agriculture and how to cope as we strip the earth bare. Two words people "Soilent Green."

  • @9thincarnation Personally, I see having 2 kids as irresponsible. No kids is optimal, but one kid is realistic.

  • Ree how many kids are in your family. If we dont reproduce we die off. IF we produce just one their personalites will included spoiled brat, hoe, dickhead. (Sorry for the language but you might not understand it in other forms) If we have two chances are they will be disciplined. Parents now cant stand children and to shut them up they give them what they want, Kids whine to get what they want. I am American and i think American parents spoil their kids. If you see other cultures they are hard.

  • @mistermenphis22: Do you realize how many people would have to have 0 children for our race to "die off"? 6 Billion.

I'm talking about making a personal choice not to have children, or at the very best one child, in order to fight the Rapid overpopulation of earth. We're already fighting for resources. Oil, water, food. There's not enough to go around. And when we hit 9 billion sometime during our lifetimes we'll all be responsible for a great many deaths.

Be responsible. Have one or zero kids

  • I think you opinion is very well stated and articulate. I enjoyed reading it. However, I disagree. I think the most responsible thing a member of a western democracy can do is have between 6-10 children. There is an over abundance of food and most world famines are grounded in political disputes.

Human advancement will require a vast population - far exceeding our current paltry 6 billion. Malthus already made your argument and he was wrong.

    I hope to have 4 kids by 32... ~ 10 by 70.

  • ... And Climate Change is false not a valid point of view as this video portrays.

    If one doubts this read:

Evidence for Large Decadal Variability in the Tropical Mean Radiative Energy Budget

The average daytime temperature over the past 50 years has not increased it has actually decreased. The only real change is the amount of funding flowing toward institutions that research 'climate change.'

  • @cincodemay123 environmental carbon credits are the new derivatives

  • serious good catch - - could have freaked out but actually relieved to see the rational approach to the 800 lb gorilla in the world.

  • Never really though of this... Indeed a big crisis to come.

  • O_o"

have you been living under a vault?
