When the Princess was sleeping, Bowser snuck in her room, stole her away quietly and gave Mario dream pills which made him dream of Subcon. Bowser suceeded and he got lucky with peach.

That explains why there are Koopa kids in Super Mario Bros 3. Also Mario discussed his dream with Shiguru miyamoto and so he made a game called Doki Doki Panic.
