  • i am so happy that you've started uploading videos again!

  • @justgetsome I have lived in Korea two times for a total of over 13 years. While I would agree with your statement in the early 90's I would have to vehemently disagree with you in this current day and age. Seoul is one of the up and coming fashion capitals of the world. No I am not Korean.

  • @justgetsome and btw- your comment about Koreans using Japanese castoffs is both rude and sad.

  • I am not Korean either but I've lived here for 14years. I am not a bitter ex-pat either. you've lived here; take a classic street ajuma and you tell me about style.

They hate the japanese but they copy them to a 't'. Rude? no, the truth. If that hurts then so be it. You quote Seoul as an up and coming fashion capital that might be true but they also still eat dogs there so that's that.

  • @justgetsome

Well... of course the average ajumma doesn't have any fashion sense! Look at the time frame of her 'fashion' years being during the Korean war and during marshal law. I was referring to the younger generation.

Have you walked the streets of Seoul?

Thanks for keeping it civil. I appreciate that.

  • I'm in Korea's 2nd city(Busan) and we are probably 5years behind that of Seoul in cosmopolicy(is that a word?).

What still dumbfounds me about Korea is they have neuvo-whatever(cell phones, cars, gadgets) alongside primitive chaotic messes. There just seems to be no median it's either 2012 or 1612.

Yes, civil is me, this is a nice coversation.

  • @justgetsome

True that. Could it be that there has been such rapid development after the Korean was that both exist side by side?

Pusan is a beautiful city. I live near the number 2 city. =)

  • @gracerenewed i meant to say *Korean war*

  • Yeah I figured such. In all honesty after the Korean war, the north had a much higher standard of living. It wasn't until much later that the south got little of anything. Dictatorship after dictatorship was the rule of the land here, no differentthan the north. Things didn't really change until the Oyympics in 88 and from then on it's been like the wild west here.

I think that's exactly why there are such extremes. It's a good call by both of us really.

  • Another thing that koreans don't like to awknowledge is the fact that the American presence here has done nothing but leap them forward.

At one time not so long ago the Philipines and Korea were practically the same economics wise. Sharing nearly identical GNP,GDP and the like. The Filipinos wanted the Americans out, got it and have treaded water for the last 15years, On the other hand Korea has flurished. Co-incidence? I certainly think not.

  • @justgetsome

I have lived in both Korea and the Philippines (Korea longer tho) and it is true. The American presence boosted the economy bigtime. I don't understand why they would want them gone. We will see how Yongsan is affected but that has been talked about for years- since we were first here in 1994. Still hasn't happened yet. When that happens so many people will holler and scream because their lifeblood is gone. Sad but true.

  • They used to have protests in Busan at the base(Hailaya) to get out of korea! Then they had protests when the base closed; what gives? You can't win with these people.

It's best for America just to leave actually. The amount of money they dump into this place is ridiculous. Many koreans, especially landlords have gotten incredibly rich off of the backs of tax paying Americans.

  • You act as if America is doing it out of pure humanitarian interest. The reason there is even a presence is due to the Korean War where America and Russia decided to split the Koreas. America was able to promote its interests in spreading democracy. If America had nothing to gain from it, they would leave. The bases they have all over the world are one way for them to keep an eye on things and pursue their own political interests.

  • Gun barrel diplomacy doesn't work period. Occupation is the better word you should use. People don't like to be occupied, it causes resentment.

  • The American presence has helped bring stability to the region. However, if it were not for the hard work and ingenuity of the Korean people, they would not have made it that far. Security is one thing. Having the know-how to innovate and develop is another.

  • The old people might have worked hard and saved but the young people certainly don't.

  • @justgetsome

The rude part I was referring to was the castoffs. As if they have no other choice then be subjected to the remnants of the Japanese.

  • I think they do actually Grace but you of all people know that Koreans take the path of least resistance in everything they do.

There is very little that has come out of here in any form of origionality.

  • You would like to think you know Korea, but all you are doing is espousing your own prejudices. You can live in a country without truly knowing it. How? By staying in the same circles, going to the same places, and not bothering to really learn about what is around you. From your attitude, it is obvious that you are like that. Just like lots of foreigners live in Korea for years without learning the language.

  • I do stay in the same circle; of Korean friends. i don't hate korea I just don't let the crap slip through and I call a spade a spade.

What have I said that isn't true? Everything i have said is true and you can't seem to handle it.

  • You are a bitter expat. Yes, Seoul does take inspiration from Japan, but they don't copy them to a 't'. As far as eating dogs, not everyone does. It's not as common as you would like to think. You can tell the truth without being rude. It's called diplomacy.

  • No, it's called avoidence.

Dog meat is the third most selling meat by volume in South Korea. Arirang has been broadcasting for over a decade and do you know how many episodes on dog meat they have done?

ZERO...that's right, now why is that? Avoidence...the Korean way to solve a problem they see or the world sees. Just pretend we don't eat dog meat and perhaps the issue will go away.

You need to open your eyes and stop being a naive twat.
