In 99 times out of 100, the referee would pull the ball back with an excuse it wasn't spotted properly. Saying that, the offside didn't happen there anyway, so the freekick, for offside, wasn't in the right place. This goes down as a refereeing mistake and an illegal goal. Take it for what you will.

If you would honestly support the referee insisting that a free kick, taken from over 100yards from the opponents goal should be retaken, even if it was originally taken from a few yards away from the correct spot, then you're insane.

Even if the free kick was taken a matter of yards from where the infringement took place, it was 110 yards or so from the Madrid goal!
