I know not all cosplays are amazing, but it's not about how you look, its about having fun, most asians take things waaay too seriously.. and I have actually seen some pretty shit asian cosplays..

Anybody can cosplay!! in my opinion, as long as you are recognized as being the character you aimed to cosplay as then you just pulled off a great cosplay!
I'm asian, and I'm not a great cosplayer :\ i am short and because i love playing outside my skin is rather dark(in some lighting im practically white! o.o) but anyways, I'm just a starter cosplayer so most of my costumes are not very accurate nor do they look done by a proffesional :\ but hey, my Miku costume got TONS of attention anyways! a
nd sure i didn't have wig(cuz im poor), and my skirt was a ruffle layer skirt with no blue trim, my belt was badly made with blue fabric scrap glued to a black leather, i made the sleeves out of a pillow case(because im cheap like that), my tie was not a real tie(made out of a shirt), and i made the headphones COMPLETELY wrong.....but you know what? I was still recognized as Miku Hatsune :) so despite the fact i see my costume as being crappy, i know i did a good job and i had fun wearing it.
It all depends what is being cosplayed and how much consideration and effort is put into the cosplay. For example, I'm 1/4 Swedish, 1/4 Korean, 1/4 Cherokee and 1/4 French :) However, Miku cosplays tend to be better if an Asian girl cosplays, but others can do just as good or better if they try. (K-On cosplays tend to be better non-Asian, though, their eyes are freakishly HUGE) :3 Just try looking at little details of the cosplay, and edit pictures after. Hope this helps :D
Most of the asain cosplayers edit their pictures to look pailer or to look more like the character....and they use make up to make their eyes big....trust me my bf is japanese and ive seen his mom,aunt,and grandma and NONE of them have big eyes....they use make-up and editing to look better in cosplay
I wish people would stop talking about the size and weight of a cosplayer. I think the last girl looked fine and other "fat" cosplayers in general. I also wish people would stop saying that Asians are the best at cosplaying. In countries like America, depending on where you live, otaku items are very hard or even rare to find. I'm just saying that last sentence from experience. There are also many westerners I know of who are really good at cosplaying. Can't we all just cosplay for fun, people?
i think to say that only asians can pu7ll of cosplay is mean degrading and racist who knows there may be someone out there that is not asian that can pull off cosplay better than anyone ever thought of ding but the point is mute. i admire those who go all out who have no responsiblities other than school work but some how have these costumes that cost a fortune made for them what about the people who truly have the heart but not the funds>?
@Bujjcun I think anyone can look great in a cosplay, if they pick a character that suits them and if they buy/make a good costume. Asians I think tend to work a little harder when it comes to costume quality, but that does not mean that they are better at cosplaying than everyone else.

There are some who are just as badly put together, just as fat, just as unattractive, just as sloppy - I mean, whatever you want to criticize about every other continent, I could find you an Asian one, too. And besides, I've seen fantastic cosplays from the Americas, Australia, and Europe. Don't clump everybody who just happens to live in the same area together. It's kind of pretentious.
@Bujjcun and plus, americans dont usually know about cosplay, so the supplies are limited, so the finished costume is a wreck normally, and if you cant afford a imported costume, its even worse, so yes you asians do have an advantage...

The only reason Japanese cosplayers look nice is, for the most part, photoshop. =) Several of my close friends who live in Japan say that the conventions aren't nearly as amazing as the photographs show. xD

@AyShanxT Mine wasn't cheap. I was also 13 when I got mine, (currently 14, birthday was shortly after the costume was received.) And let me tell you- SAVE, SAVE, SSSSAAAAAAAAAAAAAVVVVVVVVVEEEEE!!!!
I found every nickel, dime, quarter, dollar, as much as I could to get the costume. It was tough stuff man, I couldn't spend a bit. Over the course of- (I don't remember how long it was...) I finally got it in the end. If you get the right one, at the right price, It's a real treat!
@AyShanxT im 12! i actually have a tie... and i have a friend that can sew. i also found a nice grey polo and skirt, but the shirt's friggin in ENGLAND, and i don't have money! being on an island in the pacific sure has it's ups, and downs. i dunno what im gonna do about the wig.
@xplosivedumplings You could always buy a long bleached wig and dye it to the color of your preference. I've watched a couple of tutorials. But, I don't have enough confidence to actually try to make the costume on my own.

( starting with a grey shirt, black skirt, blue fabric) and Im buying the wig myself... im finding everything else ( but the wig) in thrift shops so i can just cut it down, and sew add ons on. it actually looks fairly easy to make a vocaloid cosplay. For miku maybe find a grey shirt and put ruffles and the tie and a black pleated skirt and add turquoise ribbon, and then stillettos and black socks for the boots, and you have yourself a miku cosplayy ^^
The one at 0:34 looks fake. Wow, she looks amazing! It's always the ones that look fake that you have to worry about. They could one day rule the world!

@LenRinTwin I actually think that American/english Miku cosplayers are much better... When they try, of course. The only reason Japanese cosplayers look nice is, for the most part, photoshop. =) Several of my close friends who live in Japan say that the conventions aren't nearly as amazing as the photographs show. xD

@crazymnky99 Yeeeaaaahhh~. It's not a racial thing, in the end. Just because certain people have the... Effort to be able to pull a cosplay off. (Make-up can fix a LOT of things) And some people just don't. (For slightly overweight people? corsets~)

But, yeah. It's just that japanese cosplayers are quite 'otaku', and they like to spend a lot of time on their costumes (Or money... 'Cause 90% of them buy the outfits) Whereas english cosplayers just like the experience, and just throw a 'closet cosplay' together.

@AyshanxT i know how u feel, i was the same way. i bought a soul eater costume online and it was preety expensive. and the miku hatsune was expenice. i dont know how you can do a wig thing but i can tell u how 2 make it if u want (not the wig the costume) im making the costume including the arm things. :D i got my wig of my friend 4 20 pound. so i dont know what ur goin 2 do about that, can u not buy it on ebay or amazon or something? i will send u a message on how 2 make it :D good luck!

@Hadewayx UTAULOIDS are like fanmade VOCALOIDS, while Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin and Len, MEIKO, and KAITO, are released by Crypton Future Media. Well, that's what I know, but I'm not sure if it's correct. I'm pretty sure, though, that anybody could create UTAULOIDS with their own voice.

I would have been fine to assume there are just as many chubby people in for example asia. But thats just not the case. Though it is changing rapidly because of the western food they eat. Also, I see alot of nice European cosplayers, and some African-American cosplayers as well.And by your logic, Asian people can't cosplay as Yoruichi Shihoin, correct?

For it was very funny and creative. I think its cool if girls like to cosplay. And they do not have to be great beauties. But some people should try to stick to reality or otherwise be able to stand criticism. Its something that can be said about alot of topics. :)

I seriously detest people being hypocrite about their body. Especially when doing a cosplay of an asian girl. When I get mine Im doing minor adjustments to actual clothing eg.
Black skirt: add a cute teal ribbon to the boot and get some chains to hang from the bottom
Tall Black boots: Tie a teal ribbon around the top
Grey shirt like hers: add a metal little thing and pretend it says vocaloid
then have my gramma make me the weird arem things add a teal tie and a wig:

@AyShanxT Mine wasn't cheap. I was also 13 when I got mine, (currently 14, birthday was shortly after the costume was received.) And let me tell you- SAVE, SAVE, SSSSAAAAAAAAAAAAAVVVVVVVVVEEEEE!!!!
I found every nickel, dime, quarter, dollar, as much as I could to get the costume. It was tough stuff man, I couldn't spend a bit. Over the course of- (I don't remember how long it was...) I finally got it in the end. If you get the right one, at the right price, It's a real treat!

@xplosivedumplings You could always buy a long bleached wig and dye it to the color of your preference. I've watched a couple of tutorials. But, I don't have enough confidence to actually try to make the costume on my own.

( starting with a grey shirt, black skirt, blue fabric) and Im buying the wig myself... im finding everything else ( but the wig) in thrift shops so i can just cut it down, and sew add ons on. Then, I just have to make the sleves and ill be home free! ( Im starting early so i can be done way before haloween cause of school)...

it actually looks fairly easy to make a vocaloid cosplay. For miku maybe find a grey shirt and put ruffles and the tie and a black pleated skirt and add turquoise ribbon, and then stillettos and black socks for the boots, and you have yourself a miku cosplayy ^^
