  • are you any painting that more small river

  • @zulboy01 sorry, I don't understand

  • @WatercolourWorkshop

I mean the small lake. the wide just about length of tree. usually you are painting the huge river.

DId you have the video for the small river watercolour painting.

  • @zulboy01 I have videos on here of small rivers if you search through the archives. I hope they can help you.

  • @WatercolourWorkshop

    thanks. i gonna check now.

  • you like to listen to classical music as you work too?

  • @159tony I generally listen to Chill on digital radio. It's modern, easy listening but what I like most is there are no adverts and no dj's, just music.

  • @WatercolourWorkshop cool, i like to listen to classical when i paint landscape, it's soothing and helps me to focus on the view, but if im painting something like comic book characters or just something with a horror theme i listen to metal.

  • where's the mist...?

  • @keckvan66 granted it's not the most misty river I've ever seen and maybe should have titled it something else.

  • After checking other sources with more competitive prices, I called a Hobby Lobby in my area and they stock the brushes. out of stock now but coming in. the clerk could not give me a price or size but i wil know at the end of this week. dying to try it. the price I got originaly was from PRO ARTE. 35 dollars for a large. cheap joes is less than half crazy. . thank you for advising us on price. where did you get your palette?

  • @bsonenthal1 Best of luck with your hake brush. $35 does sound rather expensive but I’m glad you found somewhere cheaper. I got my palette from HobbyCraft. I don’t know if you have them in the US but there must be some equivalent.

  • I was taken back by the price of the hakes, because my budget is still an issue. but I also noticed a video where the artist used only Kolinsky sables. also a healthy investment. I have robert simmons and saphires of daler-romney bought on sale and to me they are my investment. thank you again for your unselfish input

  • @bsonenthal1 I’ve just looked on eBay and the same hake that I use (large Ron Ranson) is for sale at £7.49 ($11.69) which seems quite reasonable. Best of luck with your painting.

  • thank you for reponding to my comments. I have invested in cotman and at first thought I wasted my money (we tend to be controlled be commercialization) but seeing your work suggests otherwise. Point: I thought that presoaking would get me stronger pigment, but you appear to be dry brushing and achieving the same end. . Yes I know ,its knowing your tools to gain results. thank you again for sharing this and also for narration. . trust me the narration is helpful.

  • I was stunned that you use cotman watercolors and 140 or 130 lb paper. it seems to me that cotman while student grade is still high grade although most pros will not recommend student grade.but that hake. 25 to 35 dollars is steep. but thats me.

  • @bsonenthal1 to be honest I've never used anything other than the materials you've mentioned. Though student grade, you can still get some very pleasing results. For me the most important thing by far is the brush. The hake may not be cheap, but will prove a valuable investment.

  • Thank you very much for your advice.

  • This is a great lesson. I am working with another excellent artist, Margie Bowker. We have posted videos of her paintings and lessons for beginners on you tube. Do you have advice as to how to increase traffic to these videos?

  • @bonnieroyster the most important would be to get all the relevant keywords in the titles, descriptions and tags of your videos. Also post as often as possible to keep your channel looking fresh. It won't happen overnight, but in time you may get the traffic you crave. Best of luck.

  • That's so beautiful! I already asked my parents to buy me a watercolor set for my birthday!!

  • @Firedragonime I'm glad my videos have inspired you to have a go at watercolours. The very best of luck with your painting!

  • what kinda paints do you use? i know watercolour but like any specific type?

  • @DubTropic I use Cotman watercolour tubes from Winsor and Newton. They're the budget range but perfectly adequate for my purposes. You don't need expensive materials to get a decent result. Thanks for watching.

  • Once again awesome work

  • @rebag64 thanks for watching.

  • It takes a very steady hand to render the tree branchs and small folliage

  • @bsonenthal1 it all boils down to lots of practise.

  • that was easy!

    i mean it look easy

but i cant do it lol

  • @ChiaXiongLoving just keep practising and eventually it will come. Thanks for watching.

  • realy good work, your ability in painting is incredible.. im more a of a drawer , ive but i want to be able to put some paint into my art work , for water colour i would apreciate if u gave me some tips :P

  • My biggest influence is Ron Ranson. Try and get hold of some of his videos. His fast and loose technique is wonderful to watch and certainly helped me. Thanks for watching.

  • You paint beautifully. Its great to see Ron Ranson's Hake being used with such expertise.

  • Thanks for the kind words.

  • i've been drawing with other mediums.. honestly i had the idea watercolours are a bit boring.. but your work is excellent.. will surely give this medium a try :)

    thanks for inspiring

  • Thanks for watching.

  • If you can, try and get hold of some Frank Clarke videos and his show called 'Simply Painting'. He's the best I've seen at teaching the basics. Keep practising and the very best of luck.

  • it gives me inspiration to use traditional water colors ^_^ nice work of yours.

  • Keep practising!

  • great! thanks for sharing. =)

  • Thanks for watching.

  • Cheers

  • Love it. It's simply beautiful!!!

  • Thank you very much.

  • excellent tutorial

  • Thanks for the compliment

  • love it

  • Thank you.

  • Beautiful Painting! I have a question though. I am an oil painter that has started watercolor and my paper gets all deformed from being wet and I have no control. I am using watercolor paper. Any help?

    Thank you for posting.

  • Firstly, are you using too much water? One exercise is to paint a very simple scene but give yourself a time limit of 10 minutes. If you find yourself constantly waiting for paint to dry then you may be using too much water.

Secondly, what weight of paper are you using? Some people stretch their paper before painting but personally I never bother. As long as you use paper at least 140lbs in weight then you should be OK.

  • Thanks for replying. I am using Strathmore cold press 140 lb. But I do find myself waiting for drying before continuing. I have been trying to build up with very light washes and gradually build my painting. Maybe it is just confidence I need to just put in the tone I want.

Thank you and I hope to see more. All your videos are fantastic.
