@btowns2009 I would have to see photographs of the entire inside and the entire outside in order to give you an idea. I can also point you to good resources for listing it if you like. Go to my website for my email address. Cannedhamtrailers is my website. You know the rest. We cant post URLs in here.
I would love to find and restore one of these! It's just so fantastic! I could just picture it all redone with all the beautiful, gleaming birch-wood paneling. Maybe install parquet flooring and furnish with a few nice Art Deco period furniture. It could be quite nice! Definitely the talk of whatever campground one chose to visit.
I should know in about a month as to how serious I can be. A lot depends upon, the price, condition, and the location (mostly the cost to get it to me). The lighthouse does have a very unique look and the floor plan makes perfect sense. I have seen another trailer that is quite similar in decent condition (most of paneling is good). It's laid out completely different but, that appears to have it's good points and bad. Downstairs seems great - upstairs I haven't quite figured it out.
There are no ceilings below it. Below it is cabinets that are accessable from the first floor only and the top of those are the floor of the second floor. Now go look at it again and you will see the cabinets to the side of the stair way and you will start to see how it works. On the left side the floor of that one is over the bath cabinets. Again hidden from view. More of a split level than a two story really.
Look at the link in the MORE INFO box and see the second photo from the top of the page where it is painted green and white. That is what it looks like now. It is now sitting there where you see it in New Mexico.
Yes I do. I plan on making a before and after photo essay about it soon for my website. Right now I am too busy to deal with posting anything on it but I will be finished with the job I am on soon. Then I can update stuff.
I've never seen anything like it. Very kool layout. I'm visiting your site now (it's givin me the itch to restore something) and lookin at all the pics. You really go the extra mile with the photos. I actually turned down a 59 Shasta a little while back, now I'm kickin my own ass...
Hi Metalhed. Ya that trailer is different if nothing else. It's the only double decker to make it because all the other attempts would blow over in the wind.
Shastas are nice trailers. They made a lot of them so there are plenty out there waiting to be restored.
I thought Shastas were cheap since there use to be so many in this area. I guess that actually meant they were popular, not cheap.
Do you have any before pics of the 59? I thought I saw you sitting in front of one drinking a beer and "shootin the shat" but must have been something else.
"I thought Shastas were cheap since there use to be so many in this area. I guess that actually meant they were popular, not cheap."
Yes there were a lot of them built. They were not the best built, just the most popular. The blue and white 59 is valued at around $10,500 right now...
Oh I would love to restore it. I just don't have the time of the money... This trailer should be valued at between $30k and $40k when it is finished. Not really a bad way of making a living.
That was high society back when it was built, I've never seen one like it before. It looks like a boat from the outside. When I was a kid we had a trailer just like the 1954 Westerner but it was blue and white.
I was considering restoring this one myself but I really want to spend my money and time on the Westerner. That one is the right size for me and the dog. This one is way too big for us though.
Boy back in the day it was built that was high society. I've never seen one like that before, it looks kind of like a boat from the outside. When I was a kid we had a trailer just like the 1954 westerner it was blue and white.
i have a 1951 lighthouse delux trailer in alot better shape and was woundering how much to ask for it. if any one wants to buy it ??

What did it sell for? thanks, gary
GKGOOKINS 2 years ago
The sale price was $2000 but the new owner spent another thousand on wheels and tires and another $500 or so getting it ready to tow.

Very nice ! This is the second one of these I have seen. The other was in this kind of condition and for sale at over 10,000

i dont understand how you can go up the stairs and have 6'3" ceilings does that mean the ceiling downstairs is really low in the area below it?

Steal it and park it in the Mojave Desert and let people use it for free!

I have another one just for that purpose. And it will fit in the surroundings much better than this one would. More on that later.

That's a pretty cool set up, there.
I ought to think about downsizing everything to something mobile.

"downsizing everything to something mobile."
I have been mobile now for about 10 years. I couldn't afford to own a home in the freaking state... California is for the rich...

That looks like a real cool trailer: a double-decker! Though I'm glad I don't have to restore it. :-)
