The ONLY problem with Barbara being country before it was cool was a lot of her music were covers of R&B songs.

The lyrics of this song seem kinda silly because of that. lol I love country music, but I hate how country artist often act as if they don't listen to other types of music or not are influenced by it. This has changed a lot in recent years, but still it is laughable.

I'm 20 and grew up on a small hobby farm, listening to everythin from Merle Haggard to Alan Jackson up here in NY. Everyone always cared about what was new down in the city and always was an outcast. Now with everyone trying to be what they consider country and they will never get it correct. Country is more then how ya dress and walk. It's a way of life.

I'm not a big fan of this version as Kenny Chesney tanked on his part, but Reba did a great job, although I prefer the original BY FAR... Every singer I've ever heard has a hard time singing this song due to the timing, even Martina struggled when she sang it for Barbara's Induction into the hall of fame, as well as George Straight messing up as well.. It's a simple song but hard to sing, so props to all who try, but BARBARA rocks.....

@mjgirl91 Hey there, basically back in the 50s and 60s you would have little grocery stores that sold fresh roasted salty peanuts and you could get a coke and peanuts for real cheap. I am not that old but the tradition carried on even when I was growing up in south in the 70s. Still lots of vendors sell fresh nuts and coke on side of road in back towns down south. I sure miss my childhood and growing up down south.

@protestant93 I can help you...It is a "southern thing" that originated in the fifties (I think). It really works better with glass-bottled Coke...they seem stronger. Get a small pack of salted peanuts, open the Coke and drink a sip, then start loading and drinking (watch out for the sudden fizz). I had to prove to a friend from NY that this was real. I played the song (Barbara and George of course) then later that week, I bought two Cokes and peanuts and showed him.
