  • Wayne Cochran was the guy who was the white James Brown, not Roy Head. Roy Head was a great rockabilly singer. He even wrote One Last Kiss from Bye Bye Birdie that was covered by Bobby Vee etc.

  • good olde boy sing his big hit from1965..still sounds great!

  • the moves he does are from joe tex, not james brown. maybe if you actually talked to HIM (roy head) like i did, you would not have to speculate as to where his moves come from and there would not be this debate.....

    ...just saying

  • @novadj61 don't you think Joe Tex and James Brown got those moves from some crazy Blues guy they saw when they were kids ? Everybody takes from whoever came before and adds their own flavor ... if you watch the first 5 minutes of Great Balls of Fire, you realize, fiction or not, nobody wakes up one morning and makes their whole act up ... just sayin' too ;-) Look at old pics of T-Bone Walker, Jimi Hendrix got some crazy moves from him ...

  • @pat976 you can say what you want. i talked to ROY HEAD himself and HE told me where he got his moves and who his influence. maybe you just like to argue, but argue with HIM, not ME!

  • Wow!!! Roy Head, still cool after all these years!

I love this band. I wish I could have heard this horns LIVE.

Thanks for posting this. I am glad to see Roy is still rockin.

  • I never saw James Brown roll off the stage. Not saying you're wrong, but it it is so, I'd have to compare the clips. I find it hard to believe anyone, much less Tom Jones singing the same song, is anywhere near as good as Roy Head. A true rocker, and still performimg today.

  • I don't think Roy Head stole anybodys moves. Nobody had the moves he had. Check him out singing this same song in 65. It was like Elvis's moves magnified.

  • @kmfmgk the moves he did were from JAMES BROWN !!!!

  • I wonder how James Brown felt about Roy Head. Was he flattered by him? Or did he resent a white guy ripping off his style?

    Probably both.

  • @yowzephyr Who cares how James Brown felt. Roy Head was a true Rocker!

  • I know what you mean, ftjax, but it's more like the Blues Bros sound like Roy Head (and others).

On this clip Roy Head is 68 yrs old.

There's a black and white youtube clip of Roy doing this same number in the late 1960s, and at 1:20 onwards he does some amazing freaky dancing. There's a few youtube clips of him doing this song, but the one I'm referring to ends with 'M&NR=1'

  • sounds like the Blues Bros.

  • Hey , I want to see him in person. Where???
