My grandparents also speak Teochew but they never spoke it to my family -since my bro and I speak Khmer only :( My cousins' family who live with my grandparents can speak Teochew too.
your teochew is easy to understand! i've listened to some teochew broadcasts from hk and the accents are a bit difficult. anyway, this video is 3 years old but i hope your appendicitis (i think) cleared up well :)
i am half cantonese and half teochew-laang. Unfortunately, i nearly forgot how to speak teochew after my grandpa and grandma go back to their hometowns.
Woah, I met someone that speak teochew like me ! I am from Indonesia. There're a lot of people who can speak teochew from Pontianak too :D Nice to meet you xD
You speak my language~^^ Although, I speak Malaysian Teochew. It's pretty much the same, just that some of the pronunciations are slightly different. =)
Thanks so much for posting this. I can't say how pleased I was to find it. I hope you keep posting more! (Also, glad to hear your procedure went well.)
Suprisingly there are a lot of Teochew people around the world but unfortunately the language is being forgotten by the younger generation as they mainly speak the native language of the country they live in. I wonder how many people understood what you said.
I can understand you. My parents are from cambodia but my grandma moved to cambodia from china because there weren't enough jobs in china, You were talking about your stomach problems right? LOL
cool! my mom is teochew born in srok khmer too! my mom speaks it but since my dad doesn't, i can only speak khmer but not teochew. really wish i had learned though because my cousins speak only teochew and french and i can't understand it. can you make teochew lessons?!

Oh man, I wish I could speak teochew like you. I used to be fluent, kind of when I was young like 3 or 4. But because of english in school I've lost it. All I can do now is understand a little bit of the things I always hear my parents say to each other and to me.
I only can understand random words because my family mixes their teochew with English and Chinese so now I can't speak Teochew and Chinese properly._.
holy shieeeeee I'm so proud of myself cos I could understand what you were saying. this is my mothertongue aswell but fahhhh, it's so hard to actually speak it :/

I guess you call me a Chindian nowadays, but mum is Teochew. Our Teochew is different because up to 2 generations ago, the family were largely based in Bangkok for business reasons. So the family lived there between 1872 and 1931. Our accent is different from yours. Can only pick up a few words here and there, but then I am out of practice not living in Spore anymore
Your camera is really good. The video and audio is fantastic. By the way im not Chinese my friend is and I am pleasently surprised to know that its such an interesting language. Sounds a bit like Thai.
I speak Teochew but like the comment below me, my speaking sucks. I wish there were some schools to learn this (if anyone knows where to learn this please comment back).
You should make more videos in Teochew! I didn't get to actively learn it when I was younger so I can understand it but my speaking is bad. There aren't that many resources for learning Teochew and on top of that I really want to learn the Vietnam/Cambodia accent specifically.
I'm so excited I found this! My native language is Teochew, but I haven't spoken it in so long since I've begun college, I've only been speaking english so I'm losing it really fast! (This is also happening to my Vietnamese) I'm going to listen to this and try to retain as much of my language as possible!
@anhysan That's cool ! I really don't speak teochew when I go out haha I just speak it at home because I have no teochew friends... I do have a lot of Vietnamese friends but I don't speak their language yet so we communicate in french haha

haha im half teochew and half canto but i speak more teochew! great to see that there's more teochew people out there since there's barely any teochew people in my area. mainly mainlanders and cantonse people.

@babychaau same here in the CA area. Not too many people I know speak the language, I rarely speak the language outside and mostly at home.

Nice try, although some of the pronounciation sounds weird.
It's really great, anyway! Support you!!! Make more video =)
By the way, where do you from? You are Australian or from somewhere else?
Oh ya, the word 'accent' is pronounced as 'kio' in Indonesia =)

Super! J'ai bien tout compris. Ca fait plaisir. Il faut préserver ce dialecte. On est pour la plupart issue de parents ayant traverser la guerre du Cambodge.
