Heard this song numerous times but didn't know the title till i saw the song credits on the movie "Brown Sugar". Great movie... even greater song... one of the greatest beats
Chooooooooonnnnnnn!!!! Studio in Streatham in the 80's....Hated being in the club until this tune came on then would always get in to it(all my mates would pull apart from me)..Happy days haha
okay, i am about to ask a question that has probably already been answered on this site, but i am too lazy to scroll through..so please mic check me if it has been..ok..why does this joint, which i love, sound like cashflow's 'mine all mine?'
I love this song 98.7 Kiss FM NY still plays this once in a while. This is the song to play on that first Hot day in the Spring and at every Cook Out in the Summer.
I used to be a DJ in a club many many years ago (when they were still called discos !!!) and this was one of my personal favs. Just brings back fantastict memories.
PS. If you like this, try Al Hudson, Now that I found you !!!
I love this song!!!! This is when music was great!! Anyone know if there are any clubs around that still play oldies like this? I will be there every weekend. So glad to have grown up in the 80s.
I just found out that I am so outta touch with this generation. Really.. my roommates in the house were blasting some new R&B.. some Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, T "can't sing for sh*t" Pain, Dream... whatever the hell he's called, and a gang of new artists that I haven't even heard of. While I'm in my room blasting some Fatback.. is there something wrong with me b/c I like this music?.. and I'm 21 to top it all off.
nkzeroG, do NOT...I REPEAT...do NOT be ashamed of listening to real music. It's ok to think outside of the box and not adhere to nonsensical bullshit. You know it's music when you can tell that people put their heart and soul in it, not formulaic cookie cutter garbage that makes us as people look stupid. A lot of these mainstream "R&B" clowns can't hold a candle to this. Since you are 21, I got a question, "When did the word 'shawty' become prevalent in the R&B lexicon nowadays?" LOL
LOL... I was born during the New Jack Swing Era, and remember the whole Jeep Era (R. Kelly, Jodeci, Blackstreet.. etc) and none of those artists used it. Hmm, first application of that word that I remember in R&B was Donell Jones' "Shorty Got Her Eyes On Me" in 1999.. it may have happened before that.. idk. But thanks for the reply, I just had to ask b/c every time a new so called "R&B" (which these days stands for rocks and blunts) song comes out.. I cringe.
Hi there, I'm 21 myself, and i agree this is one of the best tunes i heard myself. The majority of todays R'n'B Comes right off the production line just so it makes the record companies money. There aint no heart and soul put into the music they broadcast today, as you have mentioned the likes of 'Chris Brown T-(Cant sing for shit)Pain. They need computer aided stuff to make their voices sound right. The talent in new music today is not being shown like it used to. Do you agree?
Hell yea I agree, there were two events in my lifetime when I found out that music wasn't like it used to be, and in turn put me on to real music. First time was when I went through my friend's CD case and started listening to his OJays, Mtume, Isley's, Chi-Lites etc. I think the defining moment where I finally dropped new "R&B" was when my friend brought her mom's New Edition CD to class and I started listening to it. Haven't been the same since.
i dont think there's an (R&B) artist today that can creat an album without having a single song on there sampled, i guess today people are more or less gettin record deals based on their appearance other than their singin abilities, idk, i could be wrong, but i agree wit you, music aint the same no more
yeh they still happen every year begining of november. you should make time and go to one great experience, details are all on the net just put in southport weekender it tells you all about wot goes on, thanks for e mail hope i have helped
From time to time I get a random beat come into my head from a song from yesteryear and it always strikes me as odd. But funnily enough that random beat always leads me to great songs released before I was born. Perhaps my brain is getting tired of the (supposedly crap) music currently on my mp3 player.
wot a tune so gets me in the mood of feeling good, so these life at southport weekender some yrs ago and to hear them sing this life was incredible my hairs stand on end every time i hear this great memories
yeh they still happen every yr begining of november, you shud make time to go 2 one great experience, go on the net it tells you all about the event tap in southport weekender hope i have helped,
this song wasz the anthem for clubs in ny ..bentleys,silver shadow, justines, pippins, pegasus, collibron, savage, constellation, the red parrot, the loft, bonds int'l,club 88 in nj,nells, leviticus, encore in queens, bogarts in nj,paradise garage, better days, the saint, the roxy, latin quarter, empire skating ring in bklyn...all u old heads knew when this song was played..YOU DEFINITELY GOT URE DANCE/FREAK ON.......
i have been looking for this song for two years all i knew was the bass riff and accenty thing and finally i found out ahhhhhhhhhh bathe in the glory - i found it! i found lovin!!!!
Jeff Redd's remix was OK, BUT this is the track right here. Every party I've ever given or been to didn't heat up until THIS SONG played! Why are all the best groups so underrated. Don't answer that; it's rhetorical. Those of us who really have a love for the talent and artistry that come with making really great music know the answer to that question. This is truly a CLASSIC, though
I can't tell you how happy I was to find this today. Yesterday I found Mainline (yall know that one?) on iTunes and today only the live in Japan version on iTunes...tried You Tube and tears actually came to my eyes! This was/is the jam!!! Makes me dance...and I dont dance LOL!
just a shame they didnt get the props they deserved for this track... unfortunately most people only remember that cockney losers version of the song.cant believe that his version outsold fatbacks in the uk! what a joke he was.saw fatback last year at southport weekender - quality ,tight band.
Im only 22 but when i hear this, it makes me wish i was born approx 15 yrs before. Seemed like a simpler time. Why dosen't music sound like this anymore>????
the lyrical genius MIKE GLC has taken this track and turned it into a complete and utter CHART HIT. Hit up "Mike GLC - Beautiful Day" to hear what this music MOGUL has done with this track
this song is just wicked many a good night in my clubbing days dancing to this mainly near the end of the night when i was really drunk!and didnt give 2 craps what anyone thought of my dancing!lol
I was born way after this was released..but everytime i hear it.. i think...damn...chris brown and the rest of the R&B cats out now don't have anything on the old school... im a big fan of fatback, mac band, new edition, the temps, and janet jackson...that was good music.. i even digg the new jack swing era..what happened to good music?
Well said. It's good to know that the younger cats appreciate the SOUL of good music. Nowadays, MONEY became a primary factor instead of ARTISTRY. Once money became a PRIMARY factor, you compromise the integrity and purity of the music that you put out. There were REAL BANDS, REAL TALENT, and not this garbage out. Nowadays, people focus on POP sounds and flashy stage presence to hide how wack they are. I am NOT a fan of R&B today (mainstream). It's a minstrel show, just like (c)rap.
Wow you are so right. i consider myself a youngin with a Very old school soul cuz this is the music i honestly enjoy and prefer over Chris Brown, Rhianna, Dream and who ever else. I'm a true fan of New Jack.
I always think this would be audition song if I went on X Factor haha, I could fill in the gaps with a little bit of dancing. Its such a groove - I'd get through man. I darent though.
Did my hero the late 'Mr STEVE WALSH' ESQ turn this monster into a U.K nationwide hit & not just in the clubs and b4 anyone says no his version wasn't better as the ginger giant couldn't sing but this single was Fatback's highest charted song in the U.K so he must have helped,Long live Fatback & R.I.P Walshy..........
