Thanks! You went at this with a common sense approach and you did answer a few questions for me! In the end, it comes down to basically two things. 1. Does it sound good to your own ears, 2. Does the clarity stay consistent when it is played in different systems like a car stereo vs home stereo or even in ear buds?

im challenging those who claims to be music tutors, to start doing the real mixing and mastering, to drop legit knowledge about this gig.all i have seen is pre mixed and mastered material, where music nerd's are just showing you knobs.it doesn't matter what kind of music, and what kind of software you use.make sure its a full track, with vocals!then make an epic life on youtube, do not pre-mix/master & then show us the results,we want to see you obtain those results, and talk through the vid.
really great video. made clear of the mastering process and basic overview of vst's used.
Just wondering on you thoughts about the stereo enhancer.....i produce and master my own trance and house music, i hear that its bad to use stereo enhancement cos it muddles the low frequencies when played over a large system? is this true?
wouldve liked to see this demoed on a more modern/electronic sounding song, more dynamics, more pounding drums n bass etc. somewthing more to work with for the plugins. this didnt make me go and buy it
is a shame that a great plugin demo like this wasnt made in a decent computer that can process the leds at realtime( 8:00 ) you can see it clearly, i had bought this package of plugins with a pci card and was quit a bit($) and im very happy with it, in my pc runs so nice(intel core2quad Q9650-3.0ghz but is overclocked to 3.8ghz) how a multimilionair industry like universal audio(uad's) dont have a good pc for this demontration??hehe lol hummm quit strange, cheers and by the way nice video
If you notice in the title of this video the word, "Mastering". Mastering is a process that is to be considered a major part of "Final Mix Down". These plug-ins seem to accomplish goals at this production stage. As cool as technology is today, You can also use these in presetting situations as well.
"Suddle" signal changes to give more headroom without destroying the final take. Excellent!!!!
LMFAO look at all his plugins you can only run one maximizer and it maxes out the DSP, different story with the uad 2 but some of us don't make money we're just hobbyists.
Uad does not run off the comp(Ram),they run off the UAD cards you put in the the comp. And yes to run all that you would need a few or the quad card!!!!!!
Yeah, it just means your computer isn't powerful enough,
OR
your computer doesn't have enough CPU power to give.
Seriously digital mastering eats CPU, you're talking 4 GB of RAM and a high end dual core processor (Standard off-the-shelf "high end "computer) and you'll still be slapping 100%
Yeah well not so dynamic. Would be more interesting to see the plugins work with a song with more dynamic range. However taste is different thank god.
my latest home record (I recorded a nu-meal band) reaches around -7.5 or -7.4 RMS, which is quite good for now and quality is nice too... I haven't tried the UA Precision plugins yet, so I'm going to get them ASAP. Mostly I use SSL 4000 Channel, Eq and Comp from Waves Diamond Package and L3 UltraMaximizer also from Waves.
Do anyone used SSL4000 Eq yet? Did anyone find an Eq that could be better? I tried Oxford Eq but I'm not so impressed.
There are times you may process post-compression... but that will always be followed by another compression or limiter (a form of compression). However, to make sure your comps are reacting the right way, you usually will do most processing pre-comp, not after.
Ya, that whole album was clipped before mastering even happened. Its disgusting... There is no reason for tracks to need to be that 'loud'. If you want to listen to them louder, turn the damn volume up. In my opinion, things really don't need to be louder than -15 bd RMS... sadly the loudness wars are dictating otherwise :-(
@goffy44 - your comment actually shows that you have no idea what a compressor does. Whisper or scream it - won't matter cause playback volume determines listening volume. If your stereo doesn't have a volume knob, I suggest you invest in a new one made post 1940. Compressors were never and still aren't built to remove dynamics. They are built to CONTROL them. Same with limiters. They aren't made to kill transients, they are made to CONTROL them.

He keeps tweaking and processing AFTER compression? Compression has to be the last in the chain, because all headroom has been lost. Also, he's going in the red in the output, and thus destroying (clipping) the audio.
Nice try.
Then he puts the limiter LAST in the chain, basically masking the fact that he already destroyed the audio in the beginning, processed AGAIN clipped, digitally distorted audio, then backs it back down when it's already too late and the damage has been done.
Seems to me like the end sound of the end product is more important than how you get there. But this video is about selling plugins anyway, not getting pristine sound.
men.. I dont care if you "master" a 22.2 surround because you showed that you dont even know how to master a stereo track.. sorry men.. NOOB.. and hey!! look how angry you are hahahaha.. and remeber this words.. and noob can be forever. NOOB. lol.
lol... wow. If the plug-ins are floating 32-bit then pushing them into 'clipping' doesn't actually clip them. It's nearly impossible to clip a 32-bit floating plug. Most DAWs these days allow the individual tracks to hit red without any distortion or degredation of audio. Although, if that over hits the Master, or leaves the DAW in any way, it will definitely clip.
But ya, never process after comp. When you get levels under control, just a little eq can send you over and cause cd rejects
as you say matrix you are in the right way.. going into positive digital values for dB scale doesn't mean you are destroying audio (of course not for rendering, bouncing, or going through analog outputs)
compressing is not the last process in the chain dude, if you have experience, you'll see mastered tracks nowadays rise even up to a range between -7 ~ -9 dB RMS in the loudest parts, so if you try to get a signal into such a level only with compression you'll have a very pushy mix.. so..
Yes, but RMS and dbfs aren't the same. If your peaks hit 0dbfs, any change of processing will send you over, causing a digital clip and erorrs at cd pressing time. You can have 0dbfs with any RMS value, they aren't related.
I regularly make masters hiting the -8 and -7 db RMS values, but they can only hit a 0dbfs maximum. Thus to ensure you don't exceed that value, you need to limit as the last stage of the master bus... Anything done post-limiting will cause digital overs, even eq cuts.
Awesome set of plugs for sure.Keep in mind that when you buy the card, you still need to purchase this particular set of mastering plug-ins seperately. And they're not cheap! You do get a couple of realy high end plugs thrown in.The Pultec eq for example is well worth the cost of the card alone
