With her latest about face on religion, Anne's last novel is going to be about Lestat going back in time where he is incarnated as Joseph of Arimathea so he can capture the blood of Christ in the Holy Grail as Jesus dies on the cross . But when he drinks the blood, the immortal Lestat turns back into a mortal human being, once again. But, it doesn't end there.
@bondurango How do you know that? And I don't think there will be a 'final' addition to the Vampire Chronicles, Anne has said this many times. Yet, I can't fully comprehend that especially when within this video she says she wants to write another book with Lestat.
so she`s back to a religion that tells you witches are real, deamons are real but she states that she doesn`t believe in that. and the god of this cult also condemns gays to eternal damnation but her son is gay and she`s totally fine with that and has personally nothing against them.
as much as i liked the chronicles, the witches, azrael and the mummy and even violin, but i think she went nuts
i dont believe her, saying she wrote vampire novels to convey some deep human condition and the search for God, she's cash cowed on the first book, her books on other subjects under another name did not sell well, also theres spirits mentioned in queen of the dammed and u dont believe in spirits and not God, she is a good story teller, sometimes when not rehashing, but at best she is a pulp novelist, nothing wrong with that, shes read too much fan mail me thinks
When she wrote Interview with a vampire, she couldn't have known, how big it was going to be.So even if she only continued writing the Chronicles because of money( what I personally don't believe)It still can't be the reason why she started writing about Vampires in the first place, could it?If I remember correctly( and you can correct me,if I'm wrong):when her first book came out,Vampires weren't that much of a big deal.Anyway:I loved the chronicles and Im greatful that she wrote it
The Twilight Saga is alright, nothing too obsess about. But Anne Rice's "Vampire Chronicles" are deeper and well worth the money for the ten books. She actually uses vampire mythology in her stories and the stories within them are intense.
Ray Bradbury and Anne Rice are my two favorite authors, Stephany Myer doesn't begin to compare to those two as far as philosaphy and mere literary talent. Even in romance Rice has Myer beat hands down. If you don't think so read Tale of the Body Thief
Anne is a wonderful writer, i like her vampire stories better than Stephenie Meyer's because i think Anne stories are deeper, more philosophical;and the Twilight saga is more about teenage love.
I like Anne Rice better than Stephenie Meyer. Her stories make more sense. Probably because i'm a grown up already and could care less with teenage fantasy stories. Their both good story writers though.
This was a good interview. Being a horror writer and Christian, I get ostracized in smaller cities but feel I don't have to give up my writing style because of my beliefs. Rice says when she does another Lestat book it will be more Christian themed, fine by me. I love her old work and I'm sure I'll enjoy her future endeavours. I'm just glad she found herself and doesn't regret her past accomplishments.
If you study the bible and its back stories (cause there are many) then you will realise that there are many intresting avenues that could bring fantastic stories.
For instance Jesus was out of the loop for 30 years until he came back to the bible.
So she is going to write another vampire novel. She's been saying for a while that she's done with the vampire chronicles and is going to focus on Jesus.
That's true. But like she said, her vampires are metaphors for the lost souls, which she was, prior to her conversion. And had she redeemed her vampires and made them "see the light" as she has, it would totally destroy the metaphor. There was no way she would've been able to continue the Chronicles, given her current spiritual condition; to do so would be a major disservice to Lestat and his friends. I say let sleeping dogs lie.
outstanding interview - i always love hearing anne explain her return to God. her memoir is just as outstanding. it is nice to finally see a writer pursue her goals and convictions rather than just keep cranking out more of the same to bring in money or not offend the fan base. but then again, anne in all of her work has always stayed true to her own vision. just when everyone thought they had her figured out, she would go in a completely diff. direction. long live the House of Rice.
Lestat has the life of a created character and may it be a very long one, but I'll never write about him again. I have moved on, and can't. I have to tell all I know in a book, and that is what I always did, and will always do. Lestat has his life out there, and I still love him and what he meant to me in the dark years. He was my aching soul in those days.
i think the lessons learned from lestat are timeless lessons...lestats name may slide away over time, but never the passion that he consumed us with...
As a long-time fan of all of Anne Rice's novels, I would love to see Lestat return...particularly if he was faced with a tough decision like seeking a cure for his vampirism...or destroying himself to rid the world of a "monster." In subsequent interviews, though, Ms. Rice has said that she wants to leave the vampires retired. I respect her decision. An author as prolific and popular as Rice has "earned" the right to write whatever inspires her. :)

Anne, thank you for all your poignant, beautiful books-- they have meant much to me. And thank you for sharing your Christian faith so vividly.

I respect her decision. But it seems to me that she wants to associate her two fases of writing with faith. Vampire = atheism and Christ = faith.
I mean, being religious doesn't imply that you can't enjoy vampire stories.
Anyway, I respect her decision :)
