True, Cantrell is a great songwriter, but a song is only as good as it's singer. Layne understood the darkness of the material and, when he sang, you believed every word. I don't get that feeling at all from Duvall...especially when he dances around on stage to these songs about death and despair.

Maybe that will change with new material geared toward Duvall, but, for these older songs, he misses the mark. By a mile.

I think most people are forgetting that Cantrell wrote about half of the lyrics for alice in chains himself. Being a drug addict and a functional songwriter don't go together very well. There will never be another Staley, but if any of you haven't seen any of the live footage of AIC without him Duval is doing just fine. Watch him, he'll make a name for himself. There's no doubt in my mind

Well, its their original bassist (Current one is Mike Inez) and I didn't see them change their name back then, why would they now? Simple, because 3/4 of the original guys are still there (I consider Inez an original by now) and it would make no sense to call themselves something different.
