  • or instead of boiling it you can just read the back of the fucking can.

  • damn and I got two cans from the store just 10minutes ago

    well lets get all sugarfied

  • If that's so bad, how come the 99% of teens who've drank pop don't get diabetes?

  • I quit drinking Soda after watching this video.

  • It's freaking disgusting of how much sugar is in those drinks. He's says drinking water is a better solution to thirst. But even the water is fucked up with loads fluoride.

  • How much ink is in that ugly quiz sheet?

  • oooops! It should be 6 teasespoons and a half teasespoon of sugar..

Because you said that 1 teasespoon is equivalent to 6 grams of sugar.. anyway, whatever!

  • is this experiment can be performed in energy drinks???

  • blah blah blah 39 grams of sugar blah blah blah... they make that seem like a lot... and i can see how it is... but man i consume like 200 grams of sugar a day.... now THAT is bad... i eat too much candy.... AND NO I'M NOT FAT... i'm still underweight after all that...

  • @teamofreally Just because you are thin does not make you healthy.

  • water doesnt really taste great.

  • @Angryjanitor3 , when you are thirsty would you drink sugar or water? Sugar just makes you more thirsty and HUNGRY. That's why people who drink soda are fat and ofter obese...they just can't stop drinking and eating.

  • Lol fucking nasty. Glad I don't ever drink sodas.

  • cola maker also adds lots of SALT to 'balance' the sugar and make sure you get thirsty and consume more :)

Read THE SUGAR BLUES and wakey wakey

  • @unsheepled

However I would not drink straight tapwater if you paid me.

google : china exports it's banned toxic waste( fluoride !) to US

Fluoride water filters are available, and no, boiling or Brita filters do not remove it

  • @unsheepled I always heard and wondered that! thanx. Oh and great vid! had no idea THAT much sugar was in my favorite drink...let alone fruit juice! We are doomed!

  • I just had my last coca cola.

  • @BigTeamButch Seriously.

  • @BigTeamButch i used to drink 3 cans of soda a day, but now i've been off coke for 4 months. feels great.

  • why did u even weigh the spoon/use it. is there something special you need to do with it that wasnt mentioned? PLEASE ANSWER!

  • Wow, really "is fat" grow up!!! How many grams of sugar is in your can hateraid?? This Video is a GREAT, and prop's to its creator!!! More ppl should give a shit.

  • This sure beats all those idiots who random dumb spoonfuls of sugar on a mat in front of a can or bottle and then say, "See? That's how much there's in that can!" I can do that too and pour an entire jar of sugar in front of a bottle of bottled water - doesn't show squat.

  • Marshall Brain, the guy that invented HowStuffWorks!

  • Water may not have sugar in it, but it sure does have poison in to substitute,,smile,

  • Yea we should be more like you....fatass

  • how can water taste great if it literally doesn't have any taste?!?!?!

  • @gameguy10987 it taste great because there;s nothing in the world that taste like water except ice

  • I'm an adult and I got a kid to help me.

  • A fantastic video to make you realise just how much sugar there is in a can of soda! Thanks!!!

  • They could put a lot less sugar in the soda and it would taste pretty much the same.

  • Comment removed

  • @JoggingOnTheMoon Or even table sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. That would make a huge difference too.

  • @ninjajesus81 true.

  • I drink pop every day and am fifty times skinnier then he is. LOL

  • @XEPICfailGAMERX And your teeth are 50 times as bad as his teeth. There's two different types of acid in soda that eat away your teeth.

  • @ninjajesus81 Don't worry, after I watched this I decided to drink water more and pop way less :D

  • My Dad drinks alot of soda.. im showing him this

  • 371 grams of pot?

  • @Circa72bpm I WANT

  • This guy is Chris Hanson's cousin..."How many times have you done thiiiiiis?"

  • AHAHAHAHA OH MY GOD. He uses the music from the yamaha beginners piano xD

  • Or................... You can CHECK THE BACK OF THE CAN/BOTTLE FOR NUTRITION FACTS.

  • I have a proposed a counter argument.

    It tastes nice.

  • Food Scientits.

  • Isnt Fruit Juice Natural sugar though?

  • I thought teaspoon was between 4-5 grams?

  • Fail! 39 is 6.5 teaspoons, not 7.5. and it doesn't "seem ok" to drink it when it's mixed with water, you would actually throw up if you drank that. so how can you drink coke? they have to add acid to it to stop you from throwing up.

giant soda, as in double the size of a can? when was this made?!

and the fruit juice thing.. fruit juice is fine. what you have is fruit juice made from concentrate. fruit juice sugar is totally different from white added sugar in terms of health.

  • 3:47 is a lie. The big reason most of us don't drink water is because it doesn't taste like anything!

  • :o

  • my homeschool program made me watch this

  • Actually there is no sugar in soda. Its all HFCS which is even worse for you then sugar.

  • 39/6 is 6.5 T-spoons

  • Sadly all that HFCS got me addicted. I would love to stop drinking soda but it is hard. But I mean I am healthy and quite skinny. mostly due to my high metabolism...

  • i hate scienece

    sorry cant spell it

  • Who ever doesn't want to listen to this video because the first thing you notice is that this guy doesn't have a six pack should go die in a hole.... he's trying to EDUCATE you fools... ah whatever it's probably already to late.

  • "Would you ever eat 7½ teaspoons of sugar? No absolutley not."

Oh really? So you're telling me what i'm eating? Fuck you.

(way to state the obvious by the way, even in 06 when this came out)

  • @Klajnepojken your a retard...

    who eats sugar?

  • WHY DOES HE TAKE THE LABELS OFF THO

  • I DON'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT HOW MUCH SUGAR IS IN A CAN OR A BOTTLE OF SODA! I freaking know that it has alot of sugar in it. That's the reason I drink soda. If I want some sugar I'm gonna drink it from a soda. Sugar is good. Fat is good. Salt is good. WHO FREAKING CARES! ENJOY LIFE!

  • and that is why i enjoy COKE... because it taste GOOD

  • This is fucked

  • How many servings can 1 can make?

  • that's 11.6 cans of soda to a lb. of sugar

  • @thebluesrockers 1 Pound = 453.59237 Grams take that and divide it by 39 and there you have it!

so a case of cola, or soda has a little more than 2 lbs sugar. so a case a week for a yr, = 104 lbs a yr.

I wonder how many candy bars I would have to eat to = 104 lbs of sugar.

  • Hmm.. 1 tsp does not equal 6 grams. It's about 1/3 less at 4.2 grams. So there's 9 1/4 teaspoons in that can of soda. Come on dude!

  • and who cares if soda is bad for you?? it tastes so fucking good :D

  • @justgivemethetruth It would probably be more bitter. I don't know if you've ever had a Red Bull Cola, but a can of it had 31 grams of sugar, versus 46 grams in a can of Coca Cola . There's a noticable difference. Red Bull Cola is definitely more bitter. However, I like the taste much better! ;)

  • How much sugar needs to be in a can or soda for it to taste OK? Maybe half of what we get now ... or less? What would Coke taste like with half the sugar?

  • Not Enough!

  • I'm done with soda, its causing sleep disorders for me as well as obesity.

  • I'm done with soda, its causing sleep disorders for me as well as obesity.

  • "would you ever eat 7 teaspoons of sugar"... um yes

  • 0:54

That's gross. Who would want to drink that?

  • See this is why I gave up Soda a long time ago. I use to drink it all the time.

I tried some after going a long time without it and was surprised to find it tasted nasty to me now! It even gave me a headache.

Apparently I'm not the only one who has experienced that, because sense then I have read about people who have changed their diet also find that sometimes their tastes change. They stop wanting and liking some of the things they use to want and like.

  • Comment removed

  • I am not following his suggestion to do at home... I not drinking water with 1 teaspoon of sugar...next 2 teaspoon then next 3 teaspoon... Is a lot work of drinking...to do...

I might suffer LBM due to excessive intake of water...haha...

  • @MachoTawo112 If you had some sense, you would not drink the whole glass each time. Just drink a few sips to get the taste, then add another teaspoon of sugar, and enough water to refill the glass. Then sip again. Continue.

  • So what if the guy in this video is fat? Who knows.. maybe he figured it out and then he just want to share with everyone else that drinking soda and fruit juice can harm you.

  • watter taste great?????? WTF does watter taste like??

  • @slyzany great.

  • now u have a nice syrup spread to go with ur pancakes yum yum

  • @14jackthelad lol

  • at least this guy gets you drinking water

  • The guy was right untill the point saying water tastes "Great" compared to sugar... cmon man get real... how can you compare soda to water? :O

  • @ASSYRIANLEGEND agreed,i mean if water tastes"great",then no one would drink soda.

  • It's ironic because he's fat himself.

  • GREAT video!

  • or you could just read the ingredient list

  • at least fruit juice doesn't melt your bones with carbonic acid the soda contains.

  • OR... you can just look on the damn label on the back...

  • If someone does that 1 through 7 teaspoon and water drinking test bullshit they will get diabetes.

  • drink soda everyday

    watch this video

    see lots of sugar

    still drink soda.

  • lol fatass. thanks, but you drink soda ereday.

  • it also gets diluted

  • you ever eat a bag of gummi bears? or Smartees? Same thing ur retarded

  • I rather Drink my DEW. DO THE DEW

  • @rabbitsib sick! That is the sickest soda out there... makes me vomit

  • thats gross.. im not drinking anymore soda!

  • 0:39 "the pot weighs 371 grams..." ..whoa.. thats a lot of maryjane.. O.O

  • Soda is disgusting and the stuff feels horrible going down your throat.

  • wow did you really had to print that out instead of saying it "how much sugar is in soda"

  • But sugar is way to good to stop to drink it

  • who would give this video a thumbs-down? you have to be a total moron to continue on the journey to diabetes and eventual death. STOP DRINKING SODA - ONE CAN OF COKE = RECOMMENDED DAILY AMOUNT OF SUGAR !!! even though diet coke has no sugar, it still fucks you up pretty bad, caffeine is the main opponent in that one.

  • In response to thers no sugar in the water. Just lead, fecal matter. chemicals and all the Horrimones and narcotics that people flush down the drain dailly.

  • I haven't drank soda for almost 7 years now. The easiest way to quit drinking soda is to NOT think of it as giving up soda, but gaining an independence from soda, and freeing yourself from all the ravaging effects of soda, such as weight gain, mood swings, etc. At the time, my main motivation was getting in shape so I could meet a girl, I was 16 at the time.

  • Anyone else find it funny that the guy saying it is bad for you is fat

  • Comment removed

  • @MatteoDaKilla well, call him guilty, but he's not lying, in fact he's showing to ya that there is that much sugar in soft drinnks and fruit juice from you supermarket shelf. thats all. i take his word for it, better off drinking water and as for sugar intake, you can get it from other food rather than a 12oz carbonated drink with 8 teaspoons of it. another thing, that guy being fat, can proly take you out lol

  • @MatteoDaKilla Yeah but he probably doesn't have diabetes.

  • @MatteoDaKilla One can make a convincing argument that he's more qualified to give health advice, having had poor health himself. Some of the best drug rehab counselors are ex-addicts themselves. They have first hand experience of the effects. Another illustration, Bristol Palin now advocates young girls about the prevention of teen pregnancy. The presentation in this video is just as valid regardless of the presenter.

  • @MatteoDaKilla are you stupid hes not fat.... when you hti that age thats skinny...

  • @MatteoDaKilla If you think this guy is fat, you obviously haven't seen my brother, lol. He consumes things that are absolutely terrible for him and he is easily twice the size of this guy.

If you ask me, this guy knows a thing or two about good and/or bad food :)

  • 73 fatasses did not like these experiments.

  • Thumbs up for Pepsi!

  • Wow thanks

  • Aaaand what so bad about sugar ? I like it You like it everybody likes it except for people who think that... no except for the people that do not think just make 40 push-ups a day and you can drink cola eat anythink you like 40g of sugar will go out of my ass pretty fast anyway

  • @Piranha180x

The funny thing is that I don't have a single condition, not even an allergy. Have fun with your sad life in fear and paranoia.

  • OMG THAT'S SO MUCH!!!!!11one

No, I'm kidding, of course. I expected to be shocked. I'm going to drink soda all day and feel good about it - because I never get fat.

  • IT'S THE GUY FROM HOW STUFF WORKS!!!

  • My teacher showed us this. Half of the class said they weren't drinking soda anymore. We had a class party the next day. We all drank soda:)

  • Great demo. What I've done with my students is have them pour the equivalent amount of corn syrup into a container. Same thing without the boiling. I then have students research the clinical studies linking HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) to obesity and diabetes. Not good stuff. They also have to find what other products are made with HFCS. Try chocolate milk, catsup, crackers, ... The list goes on and while it's nearly unavoidable, we should try to lessen the amount we take in. Cheers!

  • It becomes a problem when we consume large amounts. If you go to the movies every so often (once a month or so) then get a small instead of a large. Don't drink a can the moment you finish one. Have one with a meal but between meals, if you're thirsty. Have some water. Natural fruit juices are better. The sugar is not the same. The body processes it differently. If you're thinking about vegetable juice...same kind of sugar found in fruits. Both are plants. The difference is quantity.

  • Two major points completely overlooked. One is that a can of Soda (Pop) contains more solid mass than just sugar. So to "boil away the water" will not work. The other is what is sugar? It's a carbohydrate. There are many different kinds and while some are better than others. It really comes down to how much we consume as a dictation of whether it is good or bad. Carbs are what we burn to produce energy. Without it, we die. That's the sum of it.

  • I've see the "nutritional" label in the back of a soda can and I've never realized that 39 grams was this much. No more soda for me from now on !

  • You've inspired my son to do this for his school Science project, Thank you for what you do!

  • put in 1 teaspoon of sugar then 12 ounces of water then drink it. then put in 2 teaspoons. Then put in 3 teaspoons. then repeat the process to 8 teaspoons... ARE YOU TRYING TO GIVE US DIABETES?

  • So, the soda you drink more and want more and keep you thirsty always due to so much sugar? But why it taste not sweet?

  • It's not a question of how he grasps the husk , It's a matter of that a one ounce bird cannot carry a two pound coconut....

  • Knowing that there are 16 calories in one tsp of sugar you can divide total calories of the 12 oz can of soda "say 140" by 16 and you get 8.75 tsp of sugar in one can.

  • If your last name is Brain and it's not a stage name that is fucking awesome. If it's a stage name, it's pretty good. Dirk Science Diggler would have been better.

  • Water does not taste great. Water tastes of nothing. Impurities give it taste if any!

  • @ThatKidKnows

Impurities, sure, but in general taste is a subjective experience, so different people have different experiences of taste.

I personally think water tastes great, even though I know that my taste buds aren't doing much work.

  • I don't drike coke. XD

  • Marshal, you did an awesome job in this demonstration.

    Great eye opener!

    Thanks

  • NO more soda For ME

  • One teaspoon of sugar is about 4.2 g, not 6 g. 39 / 4.2= 9.28 teaspoons of sugar. A 20 oz bottle of Coca Cola has 67.5 grams of sugar, which is 16 teaspoons of sugar.

  • Lol, Solo can has 45.7g sugar in it... and I just drank two of them. That's disgusting.

And now I'm off to open another.

  • @Vire70 ... a diabetic in the making ...

  • he should taste the water that comes from our faucet. tastes great? Not so much... i can make strong tea or coffee with it (sugar not included) but the water itself doesn't taste all that good. i like the taste of the water from the next town over though.

  • @CursedEyes24 Our hard tap water here tastes bad much of the time and makes scummy coffee and tea. I buy my filtered drinking and cooking water from a local store, using my own 5-gallon jugs. It tastes good and doesn't spoil the taste of food and drinks. The water store offers reverse osmosis (RO) purification, or at higher cost, near-laboratory-grade distilled water. Plain water is my drink of choice.

  • @upajos Just get a water filtration system. I'm not talking about Brita water filters I'm talking about one that goes under your sink and has three stages of filtration. It will be cheaper in the long run. Buying something like water that you can get for free at home is just ridiculous, and puts money in the hands of corporate greed. I suggest you look up Advanced Water Filtration Systems.

  • @CainmosniMirrored Been there, done that. Home filtration systems are expensive to acquire, expensive to maintain and a constant source of troublesome bacteria growth. I let the water store people take care of the equipment hassles for me, and the prices they charge are hard to beat after equipment and maintenance are figured in. The store is just a few blocks down the street; it would be a different matter if I had to travel 10-20 miles to go shopping.

  • When did water start tasting great?

  • All I have to say is... when I was in school I'd never have thought I'd eventually be sitting at home watching videos like this voluntarily.

  • Real sugar's been replaced with corn syrup in sodas!

    It's cheaper, cost is 1/3!

  • @szaki This is old news. It's been that way since the late 70's early 80's.

  • apple (mean fruit, not company :) contain sugar too. it is nothing wrong about it ...

so i think, that fruit juice should contain some sugar ...

    sorry for my bad english

  • Comment removed

  • 1 teaspoon = 6g he says?

    6*7 + a little is 43-45 what happend to the 39?

  • @MastaChefSteve If you noticed, he wasn't measuring the teaspoons very accurately. That might account for the error.

  • i want to puke right now

  • lol this guy i really warning the kids about how much sugar is in soda but wants them to drink it straight.

  • but i do eat 7.5 spones of sugar(sorry for bad english) but with water it tastes ranzing but there are other things in it to to make it taste good and i dont really like the taste of water unless i am really really thirsty

  • sugar in soda no way when did this happen

  • besides water helps to eliminate to toxins

  • Fruit is never better.

  • 7 spoonfuls aint that much... was expectin alot more, id eat 7 spoonfuls easy

  • ok, I'm glad I don't like it that much xD

  • or just look at the label

  • Great video. It really puts it into perspective just how much sugar I've been drinking all these years...definitely going to stick to tea and water from now on.

  • I'd eat fifteen teaspoons of sugar... XD

  • its been proven soda also contains trace amounts of semen

  • who really emailed in to ask how much sugar is in a can of soda?! its on the back

  • fuck fruit I hate the shit

  • @slotercard Fruit is great.

  • What is soda?

  • The can has 39 grams of sugar.

    1 teaspoon = 6 grams

     39grams / 6grams = 6.5

He is saying that 39/6 = 7.5 teaspoons. ( 1:56 ) He cant even calculate,

  • Comment removed

  • y would someone put suger in water and drink it?? so that can get sick???

  • I have a suggestion. Watch Anime!

  • @ShadowSword32

    lol.. XD
