i used this continental airlines system on a flight to newark last year and i found it to be really unstable and temperamental. it rebooted on both the flight to and from newark and didnt work to play the safety video so the flight attendants had to do it manually.
The reason it takes so long is probably because it does a net boot. That said they could probably use a hibernation like boot system along with a torrent like network system and get the boot time way down. Of course doing this would bring down stability, but could be pretty darn stable and fast if done right.

Dear All,
I have some funny and creative questions:
(1) Will a Flight Simulator be in-flight entertainment for passengers?
(2) What will be the advantage and disadvantage of having a Flighter Simulator as an in-flight entertainment?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative ideas and brainstorm!!! :)

why is it sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo slow? is it running on 386? a long list of media has nothing to do with a long boot time.

Oh wow, all those movie, music and game categories to choose from. :D
So that's why it took a long time to boot...
Thanks for posting! :)

I see a glimpse of Ubuntu in the first seconds. Was that your laptop or something?

Wut? Where in the world do you see a "glimpse" of Ubuntu?
I never heard of Ubuntu on top of Redboot...

Watch the lower-left corner of the video in the very first moments. It looks like a brownish Gnome desktop. It's probably his laptop on his lap.
