I'm using a continuous wave source and I understand that pulsing it using a chopper at 60 Hz and modulating it under a 60 Hz magnetic field will do the trick but I'm not sure if what I'm doing is right. Also, my intensity levels measured using a DAQ in Labview keep fluctuating for the slightest change in chopper frquency. I'm guessing my experimental set-up is erroneous.

  • Hello! I'm using a 633nm He-Ne laser for a similar measurement in very low AC magnetic fields (20-70 Gauss i.e. 2-7 mT) to compute Faraday rotation for very thin glasses. I'm using a lock in amplifier and an optical chopper to sync with reference frequency and calculate the rotation angle through a relative change in detector intensity. I am doubtful of this method though I have observed change in the intensity when I interfaced the detector through LabView. Can u suggest some othert technique?
