I have visited Egypt twice and I was struck by the contrast that exists between what visitors are encouraged to see and what they are encouraged not to see. Egyptians I met were always welcoming with a fine sense of humour - these people usually lived beyond the well trodden tourist areas, far away from the pressures of city life and government led tourist initiatives. I hope I will be able to take my children in the future but that is not my choice to make, it is theirs - I wait in hope.
