I too recorded this from the BBC live that nigh but have since lost the tape. This is the best ever version of Starship Trooper and thanks so much for shareing it.
god do i wish i was alive in the 70s so i could of saw them play live. Im fuckin jealous of my dad he saw them 1973 through 1980. The first time i saw them was in 2000. They were at there prime in the 70s and 80s if only i could go back in time and see some of those incredible shows
Maybe the same road crew member stole the recording from the sound board the same way as my Siberian does not say hello Wembley.........they were awesome every show, I have live in Chicago with awesome sound with the long distance Medley and Awaken..........But the solo's Wakeman does in Starship are Identical.....
@progman196 That King Biscuit Yes show "From the LA Forum 1978" ... ISN'T really from the LA Forum. It's the Wembley show 10/28/78. Somehow KB never got that right, and it's confused everyone!
@progman1960 That King Biscuit Yes show "From the LA Forum 1978" ... ISN'T really from the LA Forum. It's the Wembley show 10/28/78. Somehow KB never got that right, and it's confused everyone!
You say you have the double album that says YES, "In The Round" LA Forum 10/16/78. I have the same one. On the bottom on the back its says, Thanks to Glen this album is truly amazing. Iv'e been listening to it for 30 years! After Siberian Khatru Jon says welcome to Wembley. YES never played 10/16/78.
If you're talking about Chicago 1979. no way! The Rick solo during Wurm from Starship Trooper in 1978 is totally different than the one from 1979. I've listened to both 100's of times.
If you have it, post Yes - 6/19/79 Boston Garden, Starship Trooper. Absolutely MIND BOGGLING! I have the show on cassette.Or the Starship Trooper from 6/30/79. Hollywood Fl. the show I was at. I have it on cassette. It's the last show of the tour. The Wurms are beyond belief! 10/28/78 recording is perfection. The supersonic sound and versions. The 1978 Wurms are beyond belief.1979 Wurms, are BEYOND, BEYOND BELIEF! I have 10/27/78 Wembley on cassette, not as good as 10/28/78.
@yesshows100 I'll try and get those up. I said Chicago but meant Quebec. I think it's one of the best I've heard from 79. I haven't heard the Boston or FL show but I should be able to find it.
4/18/79, Quebec, I have that on cassette and CD. It's beyond awsome. The sound is so unique and mindbending, insane! After 1979 YES never sounded like that again. 6/30/79 is the "LAST REAL YESSHOW" Many great shows after that, but none come close to 1971-1979! With all the boots I have I could spend years uploading stuff to youtube.
I'm glad you brought this up. But I can't find any comments on this video that I made saying it's Wembley. I'll look again. It must be somewhere, for you to try and correct me. It 's a well known fact that this is not the L.A Forum.
I also have 10/28/78 Wembley on cassette. Same exact supersonic sound as the album! It's the whole show minus Future Times/Rejoice and Rick's solo. The album is missing that plus, The Time and a word medley and Awaken. The show is the nectarines of the GODS!
I have the Bootleg on album also. It says L.A. Forum,10/16/78. It's wrong! Yes played at the L.A. forum 10/5/78 & 10/6/78. Yes did not play on 10/16/78. So it could be 10/5 or 10/6, but it's not. After Siberian Khatru, Jon says welcome to Wembley. Listen to that. Also I have excerpts from the show which was played on a L.A radio station in 10/82. The disc jockey says L.A Forum circa 1977. He's wrong. It's exacty the same mind boggling versions & sound as the album.
@yesshows100 That King Biscuit Yes show "From the LA Forum 1978" ... ISN'T really from the LA Forum. It's the Wembley show 10/28/78. Somehow KB never got that right, and it's confused everyone!
if you listen very carefully i'm sure you can hear me singing along. what a night to remember this was ...........nice to be able to say .......I was there!!!!!!
I saw them perform back in 1978 in Pittsburgh,Pa. in the Civic Arena. They were "In The Round" with a revolving stage. Halfway through the show some idiot jumped up onstage and hugged Jon Anderson. Suddenly out of nowhere came about 7 or 8 security dudes who immediately grabbed the idiot and beat the crap out of him. It was awesome. Now they are tearing down the Arena and selling the pieces-I could just cry............Thanks for the memories.
YES! What a great version. I reckon AW & CS were the best rhythm section going from GFTO thru to Drama and Run With the Fox. Listen to them on RW's Statue Of Justice. AW's sound was crisp and precise and their use of dynamics was unique. It's been a great Yesyear but this era always blows me away.
Nice version, but I still have to gowith the 1973 Yessongs version as the best live version. And I still love the dark, moodiness of the studio version.
I was at Yes 6/30/79, the last Tormato tour show. I have that on tape. That Wurm is better than Boston 1979. Have you heard any 1979 Wurms. Have you watched the Phiia 1979 version? As good as that version is, its not nearly as good as other ones from 1979. 06/24/79/ Birmingham, AL may be the best of all. or 06/27/79 - Baton Rouge, LA or the many others I have. Believe me, I find it impossible and hard to admit that anything can be better than 10/28/78, but many 1979 versions are.
I'm wrong. Ha Ha Ha I've listened to this version more than anyone on earth. Almost everyday for the last 30 years. And until a friend of mine taped some 1979 Yes boots for me I thought this 1978 version was the greatest ever. But when I heard 6/19/79 Boston Garden Starship Trooper everyone I know agreed that the Wurm is better than 10/28/78. The Life Seeker/ Disillusion parts we thought 10/28/78 was maybe better.
For me, this time period was a good Yes time. They produced Yesshows and what an album that is. The version of Gates of Delirium is absolutely stunning.
How come there's no video of these shows?, what the hell happened? Who dropped the ball and didn't capture this moment in time with the best video equipment available at the time? In the round, the lights, the sound, the talent. This is the best version of this song I've heard, Rick is off the charts as is Chris. Thanks for posting. This is the Yes band that's inspired me all of these years.
