@HAHAHA44828 Yes, in a way you could say that. Traditionally when one is in mourning for a loved one, one wears black, it's the norm even today. Queen Victoria wore black for the next forty years after Albert's death because she never really got over the loss of losing him.
@dibble2005 Not necessarily. As of the twentieth century, the British Royal Family has become considerably BRITISH. Queen Elizabeth is at least half British through the Queen Mother (Elizabeth of Bowes-Lyon) and Prince William and Harry had Princess Diana (Spencer) as their Mother.
P.S. The Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Phillip, is from the Greek Royal Family which was itself originally Danish.
@tylrjsph Yes, Queen Victoria and Prince Albert shared a common ancestor in their grandparents: Countess Augusta Reuss of Ebersdorf and Francis, Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Saalfeld. Queen Victoria's Mother, the Duchess of Kent, was the younger sister of Ernest I, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Albert's Father.

Thank you for posting. As you well know, their influence was huge. I read that Queen Victoria started the trend of white wedding gowns, Albert brought The Christmas Tree to England & the rest is history. They both were good people. Sorry for Victoria's pain at losing her husband. They had 20 Earth years together. It should have been more. Best Wishes to you.
Well, I like you. I do not care what anyone says. Noone should say anything negative. You did a fantastic job and I will say I am very, very, proud of my German and English roots and you should too. Thank you. Your Friend!
@luverlything - Did you see The Young Victoria with Emily Blunt? In the procession during the coronation Princess Beatrice is one of the Lady's in Waiting. Her mother, Sarah Ferguson was one of the producers. I really love this movie.
She reminds me of my grandmother. She was born in 1896. She died in 1981.Women back then had to have many children because most of the babies didn't live to be adults. My grandma used to tell me all about it. Still gives me the shivers.
@whpriol1 It was common in this time, to give birth to a huge family. More so to the Royal Family. Queen Maria II of Portugal, and her husband, King Ferdinand II of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha (Prince Albert's cousin) gave birth to 11 children. Poor Queen Maria II died at her last pregnancy.
Thank you for this video. I love watching pictures, painting of V&A. I will be in London summer 2011. I will make sure to visit V&A museum. Can't wait. Well done, keep up the good work.
@KaiserinFrederick -Thank you very much for the video. I love the royal family. I visited the Osbourne House a few years ago and this brings back all the wonderful memories. Once again thank you and God Bless.
@KaiserinFrederick : Beside the 9 pregnancies, there were other reasons why Victoria could eat heartily -see "The Condition of the Working Class in England" 1845 and 1885 editions, by Friedrich Engels easy to find online. I doubt you'll ever read this but honestly, you may be confusing a historical figure with some kind of fictitious, Sissi-like character, here... Reading V's diary is also a good way of taking some historical distance it does show how stupid and selfish those people were
@ParisiAthina Most historians place the blame on her diet rather than her lifestyle for let us not forget that she was not viewed as "large" until AFTER the Prince Consorts Death (therefore after all her pregnancies)
Victorian photography was not kind to Victoria. Those who knew her and saw her photos all said that the photos in no way resembled the queen, herself. Apparently the light made her hair much darker and was impoosible to see her, apparently, bright blue eyes. Albert was a handsome man, until he died, although he aged badly. looking 60 when he was 40. She was a bright woman, and knew how to play the game, creating a European monarchy, all with blood ties to her. Love history.
When one is the only holder of a name, it is neither necessary nor customary to call him or her "the First". Of Queens, we have had Mary I, Elizabeth I, Mary II, Anne, Victoria and Elizabeth II. Of Kings, we have had Stephen and John, as well as 8 Henrys, 8 Edwards, 6 Georges, 4 Williams, 3 Richards, 2 Jameses, and 2 Charleses. Oh yes, and let us not forget Their Highnesses The 2 Lord Protectors, Oliver and Richard Cromwell.
Once in a while in this world, GOD shows us a glimpse of how beautiful love can be and that's what the world saw during the reign of Victoria and Albert. But all love stories no matter how beautiful will also meet it's end. Perhaps for Queen Victoria 20 years was such a short time. But it is still much longer than Charlotte and Leopold.
It's uncanny the resemblence to the present Queen of the photo at the 0.30 mark. I believe Queen Victoria is Queen Elizabeth's great, great grandmother.
Vicklchen this video makes me so sad because I just watched the episode of 'Edward the Seventh' where Prince Albert dies. =o . Thanks for recommending the series btw its great!
did Queen Victoria dress in black all the time because she was sad about Albert's death???
