I know it has already been pointed out, but whenever I hear or tune into Birdsong, it always reminds of the first time I heard Classic FM back in 1992 when they used this recording to carry out their tests prior to their first opening.
Here in Australia we have a DAB+ radio station called Bird Radio, very much like this one. Bird Radio has been broadcasting since Pink Radio went off the air after Pink's tour ended. I usually don't listen to Bird Radio, but I quite like the sounds on this radio station.
I go to sleep to this - very relaxing. Can anyone identify other non-bird sounds besides the horses and music? Why is the music played for such a short time - not much of a practice?
UK DAB radio Frequency ranges: DAB Band III 174-240 MHz. The birdsong is a recording used to test Classicfm early transmission. If you have a high pitch tinnitus, it might prove soothing. see my video 'Birdsong for your tinnitus' on youtube/aylati
Brilliant just brilliant, only trouble is after a few days listening I've noticed it's on a fairly short loop. I now know exactly when that pipe music will come in and when the horse makes it presence. I hope it gets changed on a weekly basis or something.
I remember when I first tuned in my Wavefinder to this (YEARS ago, literally) - was wondering whether someone had hijacked a channel broadcast for a moment! I think it was on as PURE Digital or something like that when it started broadcasting, no idea what it is now (and my Wavefinder's not set up at the moment so I can't check). I'll have to tune in for nostalgia's sake when I get it up and running again :D
I tried on my TV it came up with the old oneword channel it is replacing but no bird song and everywhere Ive checked so far says its on the old oneword channel - so never mind
As I say - DAB - not FM, nor freeview tv, not sky, not internet, not cable - DAB and DAB alone!! Just DAB!! I have the full 38 mins of it in MP3 if anybody wants it just send me a message.
Happy 20th anniversary birdsong! 20 years today since the recording of birdsong used on Classic FM tests and as a DAB station was made.

Classic FM used this for tests on their FM network prior to going on air.

Yes, I remember this. It was a shame when Classic FM actually started broadcasting properly!
If you listened carefully, you could hear the distant sound of a car engine sometimes, during the loop...

My cat is looking pretty bewildered hearing this. He is searching for birds all over the flat.

I initially heard this station as d1-temp, which I often listened to, but which vanished. I'm glad it's reborn as an actual station.

I get the feeling The Birdsong station is just filling in till someone buys the slot. I mean, no one can make money on it, can they. No ads.
